The narrator asked Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) or Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.), “Can I postpone fasting for three days of a month till winter for I would find it easier to fast then?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Yes, but do not reduce their number.”

The two arbitrators stipulate upon them that their decision to separate or to bring them together must be treated binding and on that basis if they separate or bring them together it is permissible.’”

“If one of you would be asked of what he does not know he must say, ‘I have no knowledge and he must not say, “Allah knows best” because it may create doubts in the hearts of his audience. If the person questioned would say, “I do not know his audience will not accuse him of anything.”

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Prayer and pleading before Allah for help, repeals what is already determined, even after it is firmly established. Thus, increase your prayers; it is the key to all favors, success and need. What is with Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, cannot be achieved by any means other than prayer and any door that is knocked very often will sooner or later open up to the one knocking.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the meat of the offering animals and what is used thereof for food which is offered for al-Tamattu‘ (advantageous) and so on. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is just as one uses his offering for food.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘There is not anything more beneficial to a man after his accepting Islam than a Muslim woman who pleases him when he looks at her, gives when he asks and protects his interests in his absence.’”

It is that a man liberates his boy and says: «Go to where you wish I have nothing to inherit from you, nor is there anything from your guilt.» He said: And that two witnesses testify.

“In the following words of Allah there is the expression ‘deprived’: ‘They are those who assign a certain share of their property (70:24) for the needy and the deprived.’ (70:25) Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘“Deprived” is a professional who no longer is able to benefit from the labor of his hands in business transactions.’” “In another Hadith it is narrated from abu Ja‘far and abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhim al-Salam, who have said, ‘Deprived is a person who has no problem in his understanding but is very tight in means of living.’”

Whoever is ill-mannered has tormented himself.

Beware of arguing in religion, for it distracts the heart from the remembrance of Allah, it bequeaths hypocrisy, it forms grudges, and it makes lying easy.

I asked Abu Abdullah (as): "Is adultery worse or drinking wine? And why is the punishment for drinking wine eighty lashes, while for adultery it is one hundred?" Imam (as) replied: "O' Ishaq, the punishment is the same, but it was increased in the case of adultery because it involves wasting the seed and placing it in a place other than where Allah (swt), the Almighty and Majestic, has commanded."

“Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Qummiy once said to abu al-Hassan (a.s.), ‘On our land there are facilities that house firehouses of al-Majus (Zoroastrians) who offer cows and sheep and dirham. Can the owners of these villages receive such things and these facilities have keepers who maintain them?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘The owners of these villages must take it and there is no offense in it.’” (Consult Fatwa also)

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Performing two Rak‘at Salah (prayer) with one’s teeth brushed is better than seventy Rak‘at without one’s teeth brushed. The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Were it not to cause hardships to my followers, I would command them to brush their teeth for every Salah (prayer).”’

Abul Ḥasan (Imam Kāżim (a.s.)) said: Do not be negligent toward him (Ḥusain (a.s.)). Those who are wealthy should go to him once every four months and as for the insolvents, “Allāh does not impose on any soul a duty but to the extent of its ability” (2:286). ‘Abbās (ibn ‘Āmir) added: I do not remember if the Imam (a.s.) said this statement to ‘Ali (ibn Abī Ḥamzah) or to Abī Nāb.

Supplicate during five [situations]: (1) when reciting the Quran, (2) during the call to prayer, (3) when it rains, (4) when two rows meet [in battle] for martyrdom, and (5) when the oppressed calls out, for there is no barrier between his call and the Throne.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When you settle the conditions of al-Mut‘ah (advantageous marriage) with a woman and she agrees and marriage becomes binding, you can bring your prior condition after marriage; if she agrees it is permissible, if she does not agree, it does not apply effectively to her; it was before marriage.’”

Abu Abdullah (asws) said: ‘The one who complains of weakness, or headache, or urine blockage, should place his hand upon that particular place and should say: ‘اسْكُنْ سَكَّنْتُكَ بِالَّذِي سَكَنَ لَهُ مَا فِي اللَّيْلِ وَ النَّهَارِ وَ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ’ ‘Settle down for the Sake of the One for Whom (azwj) settle down what is in the night and the day, and He (azwj) the Hearing, the Knowing’.

"If an elderly man and an elderly woman commit adultery, they should first be lashed and then stoned as a punishment for them. If a middle-aged man commits adultery and he is married (muhṣan), he should be stoned but not lashed. However, if a young man commits adultery, he should be lashed one hundred times and exiled for one year from his city."

Abu Musa al-Banna entered in to see Abi Abdillah عليه السلام accompanied by a number of his companions. Abu Abdillah عليه السلام said to them [i.e. the companions]: Take care of this old man [i.e. Abu Musa]! He [Hisham] said: Thereafter Abu Musa set off on the road to Makka to attend to his affairs. He departed from Quzah and was never seen again [was lost in the desert].

“One who offers a two rakat Nafila Salaat even if it is simple at the time of unawareness it would make him reach the door of Mercy (Paradise).” Someone asked, “O Messenger of Allah! What is this time of unawareness?” He replied, “It is between Maghrib and Isha prayers.”
