Imam Ali (AS) said, One who holds himself to account becomes felicitous.

Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘He who takes account of his self prospers.

Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Whoever takes account of himself prospers.

Imam Ali (AS) said, Whoever struggles with his soul in order to reform it, becomes felicitous.

Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Whoever exerts his soul in a bid to improve himself prospers, and whoever neglects and abandons his soul to its pleasures attracts misfortune and becomes distant [from Allah].

When a man’s heart is healthy, then his body is healthy. If the heart is diseased, then the body will become diseased.”

Abu Abdillah al-Sadiq Ja’far ibn Muhammad, peace be upon him, said: "A slave of Allah does not control his temptation for the sake of Allah, except that Allah rewards him by entering him into Paradise." And may Allah bless our master Muhammad, the Prophet and his progeny.

I heard Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him, say: I have the knowledge of people, all of them, in four: the first is that you know your Lord; the second is that you know what He has done to you; the third is that you know what He wants from you; and the fourth is that you know that which makes you leave your religion.

When the servants sleep, their spirits exit towards the heaven. So, what the spirit sees in the heaven, is true. And what it sees in the atmosphere, it is far from reality. Now surely the spirits are enlisted soldiers [of an army]. Then whichever of them gets acquainted with the other, it unites [with the other] and whichever of them rejects the other, it diverges [from the other]. So, when the spirit is in the heaven, it gets acquainted [with another] and it loathes [another, mutually]. And when they are acquainted in the heaven, they are acquainted on Earth and when they loathe each other in the heaven, they loathe each other on earth.

“Once a man came to Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (a.s.) asking him about the Spirit. “Is he not Jibril?” Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (a.s.) then said, “Jibril is of the angels. The Spirit is not Jibril. He repeated it to the man. The man said, “You have said something very much extraordinary. No one other than you thinks that the Spirit is somme one other than Jibril.” Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (a.s.) said to him, “You are mislead and narrate from the mislead people. Allah, the Most High has said to His Prophet (s.a.), ‘Allah’s help will certainly support (the believers), so pagans do not (seek) to hasten it. Allah is far Glorious and Exalted than to be considered equal to idols.” (16:1) He sends the angels with the Spirit. The Spirit is (a creature) other than the angels (a.s.).” and say He said:

Hearts are (of) three (types): a capsized heart that does not comprehend anything of goodness, and that is the heart of a disbeliever; a heart in which there is a black mark, and so, good and evil are wrestling in it, and that which is the strongest will dominate it; and an open heart in which there is a lamp that radiates and whose light is not extinguished until the Day of Resurrection, and that is the heart of a believer.

I asked the Messenger of Allah (s) about the man who sleeps and then dreams. So sometimes it is true and sometimes it is false. The Messenger of Allah (s) said: O `Ali! There is no servant who sleeps but that he is raised with his spirit towards the Lord of the worlds. So, what he sees near the Lord of the worlds is the truth. Then when Allah, the Mighty, the Omnipotent orders with the return of his spirit to his body, the spirit is between the heaven and the Earth. So, what it sees [then] are confused dreams.
