I asked Abu Al-Hasan (as) about a man who bequeathed a portion of his wealth. Imam (as) replied: "It is one-seventh of his one-third share."

'There is no harm and no harming (la darar wa la dirar).'"

“No scholar (Imam) has ever died before Allah, the Most Holy, the Most High, would grant him the knowledge of to who must he deliver his will.”

“The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘What parents’ declaring their children as disobedient entails for parents is exactly what children’s disobeying their parents entails for the children (both cases are extremely harmful ).’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘The necessary distance between two wells if the land is solid must be five hundred Dhira‘ and if the land is soft then it must be one thousand Dhira‘.’”

I asked him about a man who bequeathed with a part of his property. He said: A seventh of his third.

Abil Hassan (s), “How much of one’s wealth should be used, if one has willed that some of his wealth be spent in a certain way?” The Imam (s) said, “One-seventh of one-third.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, issued a judgment in favor of al- Shuf’ (one’s rights of pre-emption) in the case of partners in the ownership of land and houses, saying, “Harming and causing harm because of suffering harm is not lawful.” He (the Messenger of Allah) also said, “Once division takes place and boundaries are set al-Shuf’ (one’s rights of pre-emption) ceases to exist.’””

"She should be appraised (for her full value), and both she and her husband must work to pay off the remaining value of her price after her appraisal. Whatever state - whether freedom or servitude - applies to the woman will also apply to her children."

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who has said that this ship belongs to so and so but has not identified its contents. There is food in it; if the ship with its content must be given to him. He (the Imam) said, ‘It belongs to him except; if its owner is accused (of wrong-doing) and the heirs do not have anything.’”

“I once wrote to abu al-Hassan, before this abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about the case of a man who died and left behind a mother of child for whom he willed something in his lifetime, then died. He (the Imam) wrote, ‘She can have what her master had given her in his lifetime in an acceptable manner. The testimony of both man and woman is acceptable in it as well as the testimony of a servant who is not accused of wrong doing.’”

“The Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, issued a judgment about the size of the area around one or two palm trees that a man may have in a garden which is disputed for each tree to be an area covered by its longest branch or twig.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah asked for a sahifah (a book) and he (the Messenger of Allah) wanted to prohibit the use of certain names to use. He (the Messenger of Allah) passed away but he (the Messenger of Allah) did not mention them. Of such names are al- Hakam and Hakim, Khalid and Malik. He (the Imam) said that such names are six or seven and it is not permissible to use them.’”

I asked Imam (as) about a man who said: "This ship belongs to so-and-so," without specifying what was inside it, and there was food in it. Should the man be given the ship and what is inside it? Imam (as) said: "It belongs to the one to whom it was bequeathed, unless its owner explicitly excluded what was inside it. The heirs have no claim over it."

"A group of people came to the Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah (swt), we have seen people prostrating to one another.' The Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: 'If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would have commanded the woman to prostrate to her husband.'"

“Of the rights of Muslin on a Muslim is to offer him the greeting of peace upon meeting him, visit him when he is ill, protect his interest when he is absent, say, ‘May Allah bless you’ when he sneezes, accept his invitation and take part in the procession for his funeral.” A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from ibn Faddal from Ali ibn ‘Uqbah a similar Hadith.

“Once we were in the presence of abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.). I counted that the people present were fourteen. Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) sneezed and no one from the people said anything. Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) then asked, ‘You did not respond. Why did you not respond? It is of the rights of a believing person on the other believing person to visit him in his illness, attend his funeral, and respond to his sneezing, or he said, yusammithu (response to his sneezing) and when he invites accept his invitation.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that once a woman came to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, and asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, what is the right of husband on the wife?’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘Should I tell you a great deal about it?’ She said, ‘Tell me something about it.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘She must not fast an optional fast without his permission, must not go out of her house without his permission, must wear the best of perfumes for him and the best of her dresses, wear the best of make up for him, make herself available for him in the mornings and evenings; and his rights on her are more than this.’”

My father called me when death approached him and said: "O' my son, take charge of your younger brothers' wealth, invest it, take half of the profit for yourself, and give them the other half. You are not liable for any loss." After my father's death, my father's concubine brought me before Ibn Abi Layla and said: "This man is consuming the wealth of my children." I explained to him what my father had instructed me to do. Ibn Abi Layla said: "If your father commanded you with something invalid, I will not permit it." Then he had me testify that if I used the wealth, I would be liable for it. Later, I went to Abu Abdullah (as), and narrated my story to him. I then asked: "What do you say about this matter?" Imam (as) said: "As for the ruling of Ibn Abi Layla, I cannot overturn it. But as for what is between you and Allah (swt), the Almighty and Glorious, you are not liable."

“My father called me at the time of his death and said, ‘Son, take the assets of your small brothers and use them in business. Take half of the profit and give them the other half and you will not be held responsible.’ A mother of the child of my father took me, after the death of my father, before ibn abu Layla’ and said to him, ‘This person eats the property of my children.’ He (the narrator) has said, ‘I then told my story that my father had commanded me to do.’ Ibn abu Layla’ said, ‘If your father commanded you to do what is unlawful, I cannot allow it.’ Ibn abu Layla’ appointed a witness (to bear testimony) that if I moved it I will be held responsible. I then visited abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), later and told my story, then asked about his opinion. He (the Imam) said, ‘I cannot reject the words of ibn abu Layla’, however, between you and Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, you are not responsible.’”
