“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is not obligatory for women to say Talbiyah aloud.’”

“[O Abā Baṣīr], they are a group who describe justice with their tongues then contravene it with something else [in action].”

“The Messenger of Allah had taught this supplication: ‘O Provider to the needy, O Sympathizer with the destitute, O Guardian of the believing people, O Possessor of strong power, grant al-Salat (favors) upon Muhammad and his family, grant me sustenance, good health and suffice me in that which concerns me.’”

I asked Abu `Abd Allah al-Sadiq (AS) about the Word of Allah, the Mighty and High: Everything is perishable but him. He (AS) answered: “Everything is perishable except the one who followed the Right Path.”

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about food that I buy and I measure it when someone witnesses my measuring but I measure it for myself. He then says, ‘Sell it to me.’ I then sell it to him by means of the same measurement that I made for myself. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful.”’

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), once said to us, ‘Fasting is not proper during three days after al- Adha’ (10th of Duh al-Hajjah) as well as after al-Fitr (the first day of the month of Shawwal); they are the days for eating and drinking.”’

“I once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who kills a lion in al-Haram (the sacred area). He (the Imam) said, ’He owes one ram.’”

"Indeed, Allah (swt), the Almighty, has exempted women from four things: raising their voices in the Talbiyah, running between Safa and Marwah (meaning brisk walking), entering the Ka'bah, and touching the Black Stone."

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that when you come out for a journey say, ‘O Allah, I have come out in this direction without placing my trust in anyone other than You. I do not have any hope in anyone to which I incline except to You. I have no power to rely on, or any plan to use, except seeking favors from You. I seek kindness from You and comfort in Your best methods. You know best about my past in Your knowledge, during my journey, what I like and what I dislike. In whatever matters of Your measures I may face, affliction will be praiseworthy to me and Your decision about it will be something from which I will learn a lesson and You, however, establish whatever You will and delete whatever You will and with You is the mother book. O Allah, divert from me the measures of all trials and afflictions, the approval of all constraints and expand for me a corner in Your mercy, a gift from Your forgiveness, an increase in Your sustenance and a completion in Your bounties, and comprehensiveness in Your granting good health. Apply to me all Your approval in harmony with my wishes and my best hopes. Expel what I am afraid of and what I am not afraid of for my soul, my religion, my possessions and that which You know more than I do, and make this a goodness for my next life as well as for this life along with what I ask from You. O my Lord, protect me along with what I have left behind, like my children, family, possessions, means of livelihood, my dependents, my relatives and brothers with the best of deputies which You assign for one who is absent from his home. (You assign for the protection) of believing people in matters of safety and protection of all privacies and safety of all belongings, completion of all bounties, sufficing in all hardships, concealment of all evil matters, diversion of obstacles, perfection of all that accumulates for my happiness and pleasure in all of my affairs. Do it for me through Muhammad and the family of Muhammad and grant salawat (favors and compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause) with kindness and blessings.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is not harmful to apply (hair remover) fifteen days before Ihram.’”

“Imam abu Ja‘far (a.s.) has said about the words of Allah in the holy Quran, ‘The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, (26:94) and the army of Satan will all be thrown headlong into hell. (26:95)’ They are the people who speak about justice a great deal but in their own practice they would disregard it altogether.’”

“I once was near the pond of Zamzam when a man came and said, ‘O abu Hamzah, do not drink from this water because it is shared by both al-Jin and man, and this one is just for human beings/ I found his words strange and then thought, ‘How did he know it?’ I then asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about it and he (the Imam) said, ‘He was a male Jinn who wanted to give you this information.’”

A gift is permissible, regardless if it is taken or not taken, divided or not divided. People, however, only wanted grants, and so, they were mistaken. A grant is not permissible until it is taken.

“Abu Ja‘far, or abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘You are not required to perform your Salah (prayer) again, because of blood that you did not see except that which is from Hayd (menses), a small amount or otherwise, you see it or not are all the same.’”

I was there I made ablutions and prayed at noon every day. One day the Christian in the monastery asked me, ‘What is this manner of praying? I have never seen anyone pray like this.’ I replied, ‘I have learned it from the (grand)son of God’s Prophet (MGB).’ The man asked, ‘Is he knowledgeable?’ I replied, ‘Yes.’ The man said, ‘Then ask him about the following three things: what eggs, fish and birds are forbidden to eat?’ I went on Hajj pilgrimage that year and went to see Aba Abdullah as-Sadiq (MGB) and told him, ‘A man has asked me three things.” He (MGB) said, “What are they?” I said, “He asked me which eggs, fish and birds are forbidden to eat?” The Imam (MGB) replied, “You should not eat any eggs whose tips are the same (the top of which you cannot distinguish from its bottom). You should not eat fish which has no scales. You should not eat any birds which do not have any gizzards” Upon my return from Mecca, I went to see the Christian man and gave him the answer. He said, “The man who has provided this answer is either a Prophet or a Trustee of a Prophet.”The compiler of the book - may God be pleased with him - said, “You can eat any of the sea birds that have gizzards or spur. You can eat birds which flap their wings when they fly. You should not eat birds which glide. Regarding birds that both glide and flap their wings when they fly, you can eat birds which flap their wings more often than they glide. However, you should not eat those which glide more often than they flap their wings.”

“A man once set sail with his people and suffered a shipwreck. Everyone on board died except his wife who clung to a board and landed on an island where there lived a robber who had left no instance of disobedience to Allah but had committed them all. Without knowing anything about the shipwreck he found the woman standing over his head. He raised his head and asked her, ‘Are you a human being or a Jinni?’ She replied, ‘I am a human being. ’ He then did not say any other word but began to behave like a husband. When he advanced for a carnal relation she panicked. He asked, ‘Why have you panicked?’ She said, ‘I am afraid of this, pointing to the heavens.’ He then asked, ‘Have you done any such thing wrong against Him?’ She said, ‘No, I swear by His Glory that I have not done any such thing against Him.’ He then said, ‘You fear Him this much when you have done nothing against Him and it is only I that force you into this. In fact, I swear by Allah, I am the one who must be afraid of Him more so than you are.’ The robber then moved away without speaking a word and went back to his family. He then had no other aim but to repent and return to Allah. Once as he was walking on the road, a monk joined him walking in the same direction. The day was hot and the monk suggested that they should pray to Allah to send them a piece of cloud to provide shade against the hot sun. The young man (once a robber) said, ‘I do not think I have any good deed with my Lord so I dare not pray to Him.’ The monk said, ‘I pray and you say, Amen.’ He agreed and the monk began to pray and the young man said the Amen part. Quickly a piece of cloud appeared and provided them a shadow. They walked comfortably under the shadow against the sun. The road then divided and the young man walked in one road and the monk in the other one. The shadow went along over the young man. The monk said, ‘You are better than me. The prayer was accepted because of you, not because of me. Now tell me what is your story?’ The young man told him the story of the woman. The monk said, ‘Your sins of the past are forgiven because of fear that entered in your heart. Pay proper attention to your future behaviors.’”

Eloquent words that he would say often." I asked, "What were they?". He said, "Whenever he would wake up in the morning, he would say three times: 'I have awakened, and by my Lord, all praise is due to Him, I do not associate anything with Allah, nor do I call upon any god besides Him, nor do I take anyone other than Him as a protector.' And when evening came, he would say it three times as well.' So Allah, the Almighty, revealed in His book this verse." I then asked, "Then what about His words regarding Nuh (as): 'Indeed, he was a grateful servant.' (17:3) He said, "Eloquent words that he would say often." I asked, "What are they?". He said, "Whenever he would wake up in the morning, he would say three times: 'I testify that there is no blessing or well-being that I wake up to, in religion or in the world, except from You alone, there is no partner for You, so to You is all praise for that and abundant thanks.' He used to say it three times in the morning and three times in the evening." I then asked, "What about His words regarding Yahya (as): '[We gave him] affection from us and purity, and he was God-fearing.'" (19:13) He said, "Allah showed compassion." I asked, "How much of Allah's compassion did he receive?". He said, "Whenever he called out 'Ya Rabb', Allah (swt) would respond with, 'Labayka Ya Yahya'.

I said to Abu Abdullah as-Sadiq (as): “With what will the imam (al-Mahdi) be recognized?” He said: “With calmness and gravity.” I said: “What else?” He said: “You will know him by (executing) halal and haram (permissibility and impermissibility), by the need of people to him whereas he will never need any one and that the weapon of the Prophet (S) will be with him.” I said: “Is he a guardian and a son of a guardian?” He said: “He is not but a guardian and a son of a guardian.”
