“He (the Imam) (a.s.), said, ‘Everything has a cleanser; the cleanser for bodies is fasting.”

foiiowing: “I once heard him (the Imam) (a.s.), saying, ‘The skillfulness of a man is for his earning a living.’”

“’Amir al-Mu’minin, has said, ‘Water of the Nile of Misr (Egypt) deadens the heart.’”

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘The master food is meat.’”

“Once, al-Fahfakiy asked abu Muhammad (a.s.), ‘Why is it that the destitute and weak woman’s share of the legacy is half as much as the share of man?’ Abu Muhammad (a.s.), said, ‘It is because there is no Jihad on women; maintenance expenses and wergild to be paid by the relatives of the murderer, it is on men.’ I then said to myself that I was told about ibn abu al-‘Awja’s question to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about this issue and he had answered with this answer. Abu Muhammad (a.s.), turned to me and said, ‘Yes, this is the question of ibn abu al-‘Awja’ and the answer from us is one if the meaning of the question is the same. What applies to the last of us applies to the first of us. Our first and last in knowledge are the same, however, the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, and Amir al-Mu’minin have their excellence.’”

O Ans! Make complete ablutions so that you may cross the Bridge just like a cloud; express your greetings aloud so that there are increased blessings in your house; and give a lot of charity in private so as to quench the Honorable the Exalted God’s Wrath.”

Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) said: There are four thousand angels who are disheveled and covered with dust who cry over Ḥusain (a.s.) (and will continue to do so) until the Day of Judgment. These angels come to receive everyone who goes to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.), accompany everyone who returns from his Ziyārah, visit them if they become ill, and attend their funerals when they die. The above Ḥadīth has also been narrated to me through the following chains: A) My father, from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā, from Muḥammad ibn Ismā’īl ibn Bazī’, from Abī Ismā’īl Al-Sarrāj, from Yaḥyā ibn Mu’ammar Al-‘Aťťār, from Abī Basīr, from Abī Ja’far (a.s.). B) My father, from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain, from Mūsā ibn Sa’dān, from ‘Abdillāh ibn Qāsim, from ‘Umar ibn Abān, from Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)).

I asked Abu’l-Hasan, Ali bin Muhammed al-Askari, peace be upon him, about the saying of Allah, Exalted and Glorious is He: «The earth, all of it, is His grasp on the Day of Resurrection, and the Heavens are bent in His Right» (39:67) to which he said: That is the expression of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, to he who likened Him to His creation. Do you not see that He said: «And they did not appraise Allah His true appraisal» (39:67) when they said: «The earth, all of it, is His grasp on the Day of Resurrection, and the Heavens are bent in His Right»? Moreover, He, Exalted and Glorious is He, said: «And they did not appraise Allah His true appraisal, when they said: Allah did not send down unto a human being, anything.» (6:91) Furthermore, He, Exalted and Glorious is He, Extolled Himself from grasping and (possessing) a right hand, as He said: «Glorified is He, and Exalted, from what they associate.» (9:66).

Whenever the Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny stood to address, he would praise Allah and thank Him. Then he would say: "Know you all, that the most veracious and truthful statement is the Book of Allah (i.e. the Qu’ran) and the best guidance is that of Muhammad. The worst things are those which are invented concoctions, and every such innovation is misleading." Then he would raise his voice, with his cheeks gradually turning red and remind people of the Day of Reckoning and its dawn, in the manner one warns of an advancing army of the enemy. He would say: "It dawns with you every morning and is with you every evening!" Then he would say: "I have been sent to you with the Day of Reckoning like these two (then he would join his two forefingers). Whoever leaves behind him wealth, that will go to its heirs and whoever leaves behind a debt, it is my responsibility."

Muhammad ibn `Isa ibn `Ubayd that I asked Abu al-Hasan `Ali ibn Muhammad al-`Askari (AS) that the Word of Allah, the Mighty and High: And the whole Earth shall be in His Grip on the Day of Resurrection and the Heavens rolled up in His Right Hand.Consequently, he (AS) replied, This is a condemnation from Allah, Blessed and Exalted be He, for those who compare Him to His Creation. Have you not see that He said: and they do not assign to Allah the attributes due to Him when they say: Allah has not revealed anything to a mortal, then the Mighty and High eliminated (anthropomorphic elements of) the Grip, and the Right Side from Himself and, hence, He said: Glory be to Him, and may He be exalted above what they associate (with Him).

I was standing with my father. Abu Salt al-Haravy, Ishaq ibn Rahoyeh and Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal were also present there. My father said, “Each of you should narrate a tradition for me.” Abu Salt al-Haravy said, “Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha (MGB), who I swear by God was really pleasant as his name indicates, quoted on the authority of his father Musa ibn Ja’far al-Kadhim (MGB), on the authority of his father Ja’far ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq (MGB), on the authority of his father Muhammad ibn Ali (MGB), on the authority of Ali ibn al-Hussein (MGB), on the authority of his father Al-Hussein ibn Ali (MGB), on the authority of his father Ali ibn Abi Talib (MGB) that God’s Prophet (MGB) said, “Faith consists of talking and action.” When we left Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal said, “What form of chain of traditions was that?” My father said, “It is the healing medication for the insane. If they treat a mad man using it, he will be healed.”

Everything in this book that is narrated from Hariz ibn Abdullah has been transmitted by me from my father and from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) be pleased with them both - from Sa'd ibn Abdullah, Al-Himyari, Muhammad ibn Yahya Al-Attar, and Ahmad ibn Idris, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa, from Al-Husayn ibn Said, Ali ibn Hadid, and Abdur Rahman ibn Abi Najran, from Hammad ibn Isa Al-Juhani, from Hariz ibn Abdullah Al-Sijistani. I have also narrated it from my father, Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan, and Muhammad ibn Musa ibn Al-Mutawakkil - may Allah (swt) be pleased with them all - from Abdullah ibn Jafar Al-Himyari, from Ali ibn Ismail, Muhammad ibn Isa, Yaqub ibn Yazid, and Al-Hasan ibn Zhurayf, from Hammad ibn Isa, from Hariz ibn Abdullah Al-Sijistani. Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) asked me, “What is the distance between you and the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.)?” I replied, “One day of riding or over one day of walking.” Imam (a.s.) asked, “Do you go to him once every week?” I replied, “No. I only go to him once in a while.” Imam (a.s.) said, “How negligent you people are!!! Verily if it was (this) close to us we would have migrated to live next to him.” The above Ḥadīth has also been narrated to me through the following chain: All of my scholars, from Aḥmad ibn Idrīs, from Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad, from Muḥammad ibn Nājiyah, from Muḥammad ibn ‘Ali, from ‘Āmir ibn Kuthayr Al-Nahadi Al-Sarrāj, from Abil Jārūd, from Abī Ja’far (a.s.).

I went to Paradise and saw that the following was written in gold on the gate, ‘La illaha illalah Muhammadan habibullah Alian valiullah Fatimah Ummatal al-Hassan val-hussein safvatallah ala mobqazayahum la’natallah.’ ”

It is narrated that a letter of Imam Ridha (a.s.) contained the following text: “Convey to my Shias that the reward of my Ziyarat equals to one thousand Hajjs.” The narrator asked Imam Jawad (a.s.), “Is it equal to a thousand Hajjs?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Yes, one who performs his Ziyarat knowing his right this act is equal to a million Hajjs.” Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) says that one who performs the Ziyarat of any one of us will get the reward of the Ziyarat of Imam Husain (a.s.).”

“Surely there is a mountain in Hell called Sada, which has a valley called Saqar, which has a well called Hab-hab. As soon as the lid of this well was lifted, the entire Hell was engulfed in flames. This is the abode of tyrants.”

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about the case of a man who divorces his wife and about when she becomes stranger to him. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is when blood of the third Hayd (menses) appears. She gets control of her own affairs.’ I then asked, ‘Can she marry in that condition?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, but she must not allow him to approach her before she is clean of blood of Hayd (menses).’

O Ali! Do not consult with a coward since he would hinder your progress. Do not consult with a miser since he would lower your aspirations; and do not consult with a greedy person since he would guide you towards collecting wealth. O Ali! Know that cowardliness, miserliness and greed are of the same nature. They all stem from having a bad opinion about God.”

“The one who has three characteristics can enjoin to do good and admonish against evil. He should be a doer of what he orders others to do and he should abandon what he admonishes others against doing. He should be moderate about ordering to do good and admonishing against evil. He should be kind in ordering to do good and admonishing against evil.”

“What are they?” The Imam (MGB) replied, “Regarding wearing transparent clothes, going to public baths, attending wedding parties and going to mourning ceremonies.”
