“Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), has said, ‘Smoke from the tree of pomegranate dispels vermin?”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that women in al-Khul‘ do not have the right for maintenance and housing.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘You must not perform Tawaf wearing burtulah (a certain kind of cap).”’

“I once entered al-Madinah with my brother Sayf. People suffered from nasal hemorrhage because of which a man after two days died. I returned to my lodging and found Sayf with nasal hemorrhage severely. I went to abu al-Hassan (a.s.). He (the Imam) said, ‘O Ziyad feed Sayf apples.’ I fed him apples and he got well.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Waiting period of a pregnant widow ends with the end of the longer of the two time periods.’”

“He (the Imam) (a.s.), has said, ‘There is Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) in every Salah (prayer); obligatory or optional.’” (Ahadith 13-15 are best explained in the form of fatwa.)

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘He (the husband) can send a message to his wife saying, ‘You must commence your waiting period because so and so has departed you.’ “Ibn Sama‘ah has said that the meaning of the words of the messenger, ‘You must commence your waiting period because so and so has departed you,’ is that he has divorced you because there is no departing without divorce. “Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from ibn Sama‘ah from Ali ibn al-Hassan al-T’atriy who has said that what is unanimously agreed upon to say for divorce is to say, ‘Anti Taliq ’ (you are let go, divorced) or ’’I‘tadi’ (you must commence your waiting period). He has mentioned that he asked Muhammad ibn Hamzah about how to arrange witnesses for his word, T’tadi’ (you must commence your waiting period). He said that one must say, ‘Bear witness 7 ‘tadi’ (commence waiting period).’ Ibn Sama‘ah has said, ‘Muhammad ibn abu Hamzah has made a mistake in saying, ‘Bear witness ‘ ‘1‘tadi’ (commence waiting period).’ Al-Hassan ibn Sama‘ah has said that it is proper to come with witnesses to her place or take her to the witnesses to their homes and this is not possible to happen. Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, does not make it obligatory on His slaves. Al-Hassan has said, ‘Divorce is nothing other than what Bukayr ibn ‘A‘yan has narrated that one must say to her when she is clean of Hayd (menses) without sexual intercourse ‘Anti Taliq ’ (you are let go) or ‘ 7 ‘tadi’ (commence waiting period) in the presence of two witnesses. All other expressions are invalid.’”

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘A divorced woman can perform al-Hajj if her husband agrees.’”

Everything in this book that is narrated from Ziyad ibn Suwqah has been transmitted by me from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Sa'd ibn Abdullah, from Ayyub ibn Nuh, from Muhammad ibn Abi 'Umayr, from Ziyad ibn Suwqah.

“I once went to visit abu al-Hassan Musa (a.s.), and he (the Imam) asked me, ‘O Ziyad, do you work for Sultan ? 5 I replied, ‘Yes, I do so . 5 He (the Imam) said to me, ‘Why do you do so ? 5 I replied, ‘I am a man of fairness and I have a family to feed. I do not have any other means for support . 5 He (the Imam) said, ‘O Ziyad, if I fall from the top of a mountain and I am cut into pieces, it is more beloved to me than working for any of these people, or spread the furnishing of any of them except for what ? 5 I replied, ‘I do not know, I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause . 5 He (the Imam) said, ‘Except for relieving the agony of a believer, freeing him from his shakle, or paying his debts. O Ziyad, the least that Allah will do to those who become agents of these people for a certain work is that He will place them in the chamber of fire until Allah completes His judging all creatures. O Ziyad, if you become the person in charge of a certain work for them, you must do good to your brothers in belief one for one and Allah is behind it (to keep the account). O Ziyad, if anyone of you becomes the person in charge of a certain work for these people, then treats you just as he treats them, you must tell him that he is a pretending liar. O Ziyad, if you find yourself to have power over people, you must also remember the power of Allah over you tomorrow, and that what you give them will soon perish and what you receive remains forever . 555

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a woman who is divorced three times according to Sunnah; if she deserves maintenance and accommodation. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, it does not apply to her case.”’

And whatever is narrated from Masadah ibn Ziyad, I have narrated it from my father and from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) be pleased with them - from Saʿd ibn Abdullah and Al-Himyari together, from Harun ibn Muslim, from Masadah ibn Ziyad.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that waiting period for a woman in al-Khul‘ is like that of a divorced woman and her al-Khul‘ is her divorce.’ He (the narrator) has said that he then asked if she receives any benefits. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, she does not receive any benefits.’”

147. Amīr al-mu’minīn’s Conversation with Kumayl Ibn Ziyād an-Nakha‘ī [1]

“About the case of inheritance of a newborn from a wergild, abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘He cannot inherit from a wergild anything unless he cries at birth and his crying is heard.’”

Then al-‘Alā’ said to him: O’ Amīr al-mu’minīn, I want to complain to you about my brother ‘Āṣim ibn Ziyād.

I despise whoever whose health overcomes his illness, but he treats himself with something and dies.”
