“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If a man who is absent from his wife wants to divorce her, he can do so and he must leave her for one month.’”

“I once asked Muhammad ibn abu Hamzah about when a man absent from his wife can divorce. He said that Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar narrated to him from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), or abu al-Hassan (a.s.), who said that he can do so after one month.”

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about lost property found. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must (continue to) announce your finding in public for one year, regardless of its quantity - whether small or a large quantity.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘If it is less than a dirham one does not need to make any announcements.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If you stand up in the first two Rak‘at without saying Tashahhud (testimonies of belief), then remember before Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees), you must sit down. You must say Tashahhud (testimonies of belief). In case, if you do not remember until Ruku‘, then continue your Salah (prayer) as you are. When you end, perform two Sajdah (prostration) without Ruku‘, then say Tashahhud (testimonies of belief) which you had missed.’”

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about the case of a man who says to another man, ‘O so and so write to my wife her divorce or to my slave that he is free; if it is a divorce and setting free of a slave. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not a divorce or freedom until he says by his own tongue or his own handwriting and with the intention to divorce or set a slave free. This can happen by counting new moons and in the presence of witnesses when he is absent from his family.’”

Were I to govern the people I would teach them how to divorce, thereafter I would make the back of the violators painful. Those who divorce against the Sunnah must be returned to the book of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, despite their opposing.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, and abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about clothes of fur in Salah (prayer). He (the Imam) said, ‘Do not perform Salah (prayer) with it unless it is made clean, by properly slaughtering.’ I then asked, ’Is proper slaughtering done with iron? He (the Imam) said, ’Yes, if it is of edible flesh.’ I then asked about that which is of edible flesh other than sheep. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not an offense to use fur of squirrel; it is an animal that does not eat flesh and it is not of that which the Messenger of Allah prohibited; the Messenger of Allah prohibited everything that has dogtooth and claw.’”

“Once I was in the Masjid when Ali ibn al-Husayn, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, came in but I could not recognize him properly; so I asked about him and I was told about his name so others and I stood up for him, we surrounded him (the Imam) and offered him (the Imam) greeting of peace. A man then said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep you well, what is your view about a man who mentions a woman exactly and on the day of his marriage says three times that she is divorced then he decides to marry her: if he can do so.’ He (the Imam) said, ’Divorce is only after marriage.”’

“Once I was in the Masjid when Ali ibn al-Husayn, Alayhi al-Salam, came and I could not recognize him. He (the Imam) had a black turban and he had allowed both ends of the turban to hang down between his two shoulders. I then asked a man sitting near me, ‘Who is this Shaykh?’ He asked, ‘Why did you not ask me about people other than this shaykh coming in the Masjid?’ I replied, ‘Because I did not see anyone else entering the Masjid look as good as this Shaykh and his condition in my eyes, thus I asked you.’ He then said, ‘This is Ali ibn al-Husayn, Alayhi al-Salam .’ The man, others and I stood up. We surrounded him (the Imam) and offered greetings of peace. A man then said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep you well, what is your view about a man who mentions a woman exactly and on the day of his marriage says three times that she is divorced but then he decides to marry her: if he can do so.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Divorce is only after marriage.’ ‘Abd Allah has said that my father and I visited abu ‘Abd Allah, Ja‘far ibn Muhammad, Alayhim al-Salam, and my father narrated this Hadith to him (the Imam). Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, asked, ‘Will you testify that this is a Hadith of Ali ibn al-Husayn, Alayhi al-Salam ?’ He replied, ‘Yes I will do so.’”
