Imam Riďā (a.s.) said: The Ziyārah of the grave of my father (Imam Kāżim (a.s.)) is the same as the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.).

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Those who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) place their sins at the door of their house like a bridge and then leave them behind by crossing it in the same way that one leaves a bridge behind after having crossed it.

Aba Ja’far (a.s.), “What is the reward for someone who visits your father Ar-Ridha’ (a.s.) in Khorasan?” Aba Ja’far (a.s.) replied, “By God! It is Heaven. By God! It is Heaven.”

I asked Abā Ja’far the Second (Imam Jawād (a.s.)), “May I sacrifice my life for you! What is the reward for those who go to the Ziyārah of the grave of the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) solely for (the purpose of) Ziyārah?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Allāh will take them to Paradise In-Shā`allāh.”

I asked Abal Ḥasan (Imam Kāżim (a.s.)), “May I sacrifice myself for you! Can I establish voluntary prayers in the two Ḥarams and next to the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) if I am a Muqassir?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Yes, as much as you can.”

Soon I will be oppressively poisoned to death. God will forgive all the sins of whomever visits me recognizing my rightfulness.”

I heard Imam Riďā (a.s.) say: Those who cannot connect with us (directly) should connect with our righteous followers so that the reward for connecting with us is registered for them. And those who cannot come to our Ziyārah should go to the Ziyārah of our righteous followers so that the reward for coming to our Ziyārah is registered for them.

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Those who do not go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) before their death are lacking in faith and their belief is incomplete. And even if they enter Paradise, their position will be lower than that of the believers.

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: On the Day of ‘Arafah, Allāh, the Exalted, looks toward the Zuwwār of the grave of Abī ‘Abdillāh Al-Ḥusain (a.s.) and says, “Continue with (good) deeds for I have forgiven you.” Thereafter, He attends to the people in ‘Arafāt.

I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) say: Allāh has dedicated four thousand angels to the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) who are disheveled, covered with dust, and who cry over him (and will continue to do so) until the Day of Judgment. Going to his Ziyārah is equal to performing a Hajj and an ‘Umrah and (going to) the Ziyārah of the graves of the Martyrs (of Uḥud).

“Yes, by God! There is the reward of one million pilgrimages to the Kaaba for anyone who visits his shrine and recognizes his rightfulness.”

There is a covenant binding upon any Divine Leader’s adherents and followers. The completion of the honoring of this covenant and fulfilling their duties well lies in visiting their tombs. On the Resurrection Day, the Divine Leaders would intercede on behalf of whomever visits their shrines and eagerly and willingly accepts what they had accepted.”

I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) say, “I do not foresee any (newborn baby) whose mouth is opened with water from the Euphrates River to be anything other than from among those who love us, the Ahlul Bayt.” Then he (the Imam (a.s.)) asked me, “What is the distance between you and the Euphrates River?” I answered the Imam (a.s.) and then he said, “If I was next to it, I would love to go to it at the two ends of every day.”

I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) say: On the Day of Judgment, everyone will wish to be among those who had gone to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) because they will see the way in which the Zuwwār of Ḥusain (a.s.) will be honoured and treated by Allāh.

I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)), “Is praying in the Mosque of the Prophet (s.a.a.w.) the same as praying anywhere else in Madīnah?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “No. One Salāt (prayer) in the Mosque of the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) is equal to one thousand prayers elsewhere. However, praying anywhere else in Madīnah is just like praying in any other city.”

Instruct our Shi`a with the ziyara of al-Husayn, for surely his ziyara repels destruction and drowning and burning and being preyed upon by the predatory beasts. And his ziyara is made incumbent upon the one who confesses to the Imamate of al-Husayn as being from Allah.

I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)), “What is the reward for those who go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) while knowing his rights and without any pride or arrogance?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “One thousand (purified) Hajj and one thousand purified ‘Umrah will be registered for them. And (even) if they are among the wretched ones, they will be registered among the blissful ones and they will be continuously submerged in the Mercy of Allāh, the Great and Almighty.”

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Allāh, the Exalted, has dedicated seventy thousand angels to the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) who are disheveled and covered with dust who send blessings on him every day since the day he was killed (and will continue to do so) until a time that Allāh wills – referring to the rising of the Qā`im (Twelfth Imam (a.s.)). They pray for those who come to his Ziyārah by saying, “O Lord! These are the visitors of Ḥusain (a.s.)! Do this for them and do that for them.”

I said to Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)), “My yearning for seeing you has made me endure the difficulties of traveling to you.” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Do not complain (about this) to your Lord! Why do you not go to the one to whom you have more obligation than you have to me?!” Hearing that there was someone to whom I have more obligation than I have toward him was more difficult for me to handle than hearing him say, “Do not complain (about this) to your Lord.” So I asked, “Toward whom do I have more obligation than I have toward you?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.). Why do you not go to Ḥusain (a.s.) and invoke Allāh next to his grave and complain to Allāh about your needs?!”

The Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) said: On the Day of Judgment, I will turn away from those who had come to Makkah for Hajj but did not come to Madīnah for my Ziyārah. It is obligatory that those who come to my Ziyārah are included in my intercession, and Paradise is obligatory for those who are included in my intercession. Those who die in one of the two ḤARAMs, either Makkah or Madīnah, will not be brought forth for judgment. They will be (considered) as those who have died while traveling toward Allāh, and they will be resurrected with the companions of the Battle of Badr on the Day of Judgment.
