Commander of the Faithful (as) was presented with a grave robber. Imam (as) grabbed him by his hair, struck him against the ground, and then said: "Step on him, O' servants of Allah (swt)." So, the people trampled him until he died.

"For mukatab slaves (contracted for emancipation), if they commit fornication, they are to be lashed in proportion to what they have paid towards their emancipation with the punishment of a free person, and for the remaining portion, they are lashed with the punishment of a slave."

“A man is placed under arrest by the Imam in the case of al-Li‘an (condemnation). He testifies twice, then refuses and confesses that he has lied before completing al-Li ‘an (condemnation). Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that he is whipped as the penalty for accusing the woman of committing fornication. He is not separated from his woman.’”

Abu Abdullah (as) was asked about a Christian who accused a Muslim by saying to him, "O' adulterer." Imam (as) said: "He is to be flogged eighty lashes for violating the right of the Muslim and eighty lashes minus one for violating the sanctity of Islam. His head is to be shaved, and he is to be paraded among the people of his religion so that others may be deterred."

Indeed, Abbad Al-Makki said that Sufyan Al-Thawri told me, "I see that you have a close relationship with Abu Abdullah (as), so ask Imam (as) about a man who committed adultery while he is ill. If the prescribed punishment (hadd) is carried out on him, they fear he might die. What is your opinion on this matter?" So I asked Imam (as), and Imam (as) said to me: "Is this question from yourself, or did someone instruct you to ask about it?" I replied: "Sufyan Al-Thawri ordered me to ask you about it." Imam (as) said: "The Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was brought a man who was obese, his stomach was swollen, and the veins of his thighs were visible, and he had committed adultery with a sick woman. The Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) commanded that a palm branch with one hundred stalks be brought, and he struck him with it once and struck her with it once, and then he set them both free. This is in accordance with the saying of Allah (swt) Almighty: 'And take in your hand a bundle of thin grass and strike with it, and do not break your oath'." (Surah Sad 38:44)

Abu Ishaq [al-Sadiq] (as) arrived from Makkah and the killing of Mualla b. Khunays was mentioned to him. He [Ismail] said: So he stood up in anger – dragging his garment [on the ground i.e. moving in a hurry]. Ismail – his son – said to him: O father – where are you going? He said: even if it were a calamity [that be in front of me] – I would still head out towards it! so he went until he entered upon Dawud b. Ali [i.e. the Abbasid governor of Madina]. He [the Imam] said to him: O Dawud – you have committed a sin for which Allah will never forgive you! He [Dawud] said: and what is that sin? He said: you have killed a man from the people of Jannah – then he paused for a bit – then he added: if Allah wills. Dawud said to him: and you have also committed a sin for which Allah will never forgive you! He [the Imam] said: and what is that sin? He [Dawud] said: you married off your daughter to so and so – the Ummayad. He [the Imam] said: if I have married her off to so and so – the Umayyad – then the Messenger of Allah (sw) had given in marriage to Uthman, and I have in the Messenger of Allah an example [to follow]. He [Dawud] said: it is not me who killed him. He [the Imam] said: then who killed him? He [Dawud] said: al-Sayrafi killed him. He [the Imam] said: then retaliate on our behalf over him. So when it was the morrow – he [Dawud] came to him [al-Sayrafi] first thing in the morning – took him and had him killed. He [al-Sayrafi] began to cry out [before his execution]: O slaves of Allah! they order me to kill people for them and then they kill me!
