Imam Ali (AS) said, The best of speech is that which is affirmed by good actions.

Imam Ali (AS) said, The intellect of a person is his order, his etiquette is his foundation, his honesty is his leader and his gratitude is his perfection.

“There are occasions when one tells the truth about his believing brother, but this act hurts his believing brother and to God it is as if he has lied. There are also occasions when one wants to bring some benefit to his believing brother and lies, but to God it is as if has told the truth.”

Nothing that a believer does is loved by the Honorable the Exalted God more than saying what is right whether he is pleased or angry.”

Now then. O people [1] of Iraq! You are like the pregnant woman who, on completion of the period of pregnancy delivers a dead child and her husband is also dead and her period of widowhood is long while only remote relation inherits her. By Allāh, I did not come to you of my own accord. I came to you by force of circumstances. I have come to know that you say ‘Alī speaks lie? May Allāh fight you! Against whom do I speak lie? Whether against Allāh? But I am the first to have believed in him. Whether against His Prophet? But I am the fast who testified to him. Certainly not. By Allāh it was a way of expression which failed to appreciate, and you were not capable of it. Woe to you. I am giving out these measures of nice expression free of any cost. I wish there were vessels good enough to hold them. “Certainly, you will understand it after some time.” (Qur’ān, 38:88)

Abu Abdullah (asws) having said that: ‘A man came to the Prophet (saww) and said to him (saww), ‘O Rasool Allah (saww), advise me’. The Rasool Allah (saww) said to him: ‘So will you follow it if I (saww) give advice to you?’ To the extent that he (saww) said that to him three times, and during each of which the man said to him (saww), Yes, O Rasool Allah (saww)’. So the Rasool Allah (saww) said to him: ‘So I (saww) hereby advise you that whenever you feel like doing something, ponder over its consequences, for if there is guidance for you, so do it, and if it is a straying for you, so abstain from it’.

The Messenger of Allah (s) said: He who enters the market, buys a gift, and brings it to his family is like one who brings charity to a needy people. He should start with the females before the males, for he who gladdens his daughter is like one who frees a slave from the Children of Isma`il. He who gladdens the eye of his son is like one who weeps out of humility before Allah; and whoever weeps out of humility before Allah, Allah will enter him into the Paradise of Bliss.

Abu Abdillah عليه السلام said: We the Ahl al-Bayt are always truthful but do not lack a liar lying against us and degrading our truthfulness by his lies to the masses. The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم was the most truthful of people in speech but Musaylama used to lie about him. The Commander of the Faithful عليه السلام was the most truthful of men created by Allah after the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم, but the one who used to lie against him and work in negating his truthfulness by forging things against him was Abdallah b. Saba – may Allah curse him. Abu Abdillah al-Husayn b. Ali عليه السلام was put to trial [afflicted] by al-Mukhtar. Then Abu Abdillah mentioned al-Harith the Syrian and Bayan [b. Sam’an] and said: they used to lie upon Ali b. al-Husayn عليه السلام. Then he mentioned al-Mughira b. Sa’id, Bazi`, al-Sarri, Aba al-Khattab, Muammar, Bashshar the barley seller, Hamza the Berber and Sa’id al-Nahdi and said: May Allah curse them – we do not lack a liar or one deficient in intellect [tormenting us]. May Allah suffice us against ever needing the help of any liar and may Allah make them taste the heat of the sword [put them to the sword].
