Imam Ali (AS) said, I have never blamed anyone for divulging my secret when I was more unaccommodating of it than him [by revealing it to him in the first place].

Imam Ali (AS) said, The completeness of magnanimity is for you not to do in private what you would feel ashamed of doing in front of others.

Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Be cautious of every deed which is performed in secret but is embarrassing to perform in public.

It is forbidden on believers to expose the secrets of each other. I do not mean that they see each other naked; rather they find faults in or disgrace each other.

«The blemish of a believer upon another believer is forbidden» that he said: It is not that he is uncovered and that something (of his private organs) is seen. It is only that it is narrated something bad about him.

he heard abu Basir say that he said to abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) the following. “What made the supporters of Ali (a.s.) suffer the troubles despite the fact that they knew about their deaths and (causes of their) suffering?” the Imam (a.s.) replied me in a way as if he seemed angry, “from who could it come except from their own selves.?” I then asked, “What prevents you, may Allah take my soul in service for your cause, from telling it all (to your friends). The Imam (a.s.) said, “It is a door that is closed door except that al-Husayn ibn Ali (a.s.) opened it to a small degree (told a few things about future to his supporters just before their martyrdom).” The Imam (a.s.) then said, “O abu Muhammad, those people had a tie (zip) over their mouths.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Whoever comes to us seeking to learn Fiqh (laws of Shari’a) and the Holy Quran, allow him to come in. Whoever comes to us to make public what Allah has covered, you must move him away.’ A man from the people then said, ‘May Allah keep my soul in service for your cause, I have been involved in sin for a long time and I want to change to something else but I am not able to do so.’ The Imam said, ‘If you are true, Allah loves you. There is nothing to prevent Him from changing you to something else, it is only as such so that you can be fearing Him.’”

Amir al-Mu’minin (as) said: He who places himself in a position of suspicion should not blame those who think ill of him. He who keeps his secret has the choice in his own hands. Any conversation that exceeds two people will spread. Think the best of your brother’s words until what you hear from him overcomes that. Do not assume the worst of a word spoken by your brother when you can find a good interpretation for it. Seek out true brothers and increase your ties with them, for they are a resource in times of ease and a shield in times of adversity. Consult those who fear God in your matters. Love brothers according to their piety. Beware of wicked women, and be cautious even of the best among them. If they command you to do good, contradict them so they do not become bold with you regarding evil.
