عقبة بن قيس

2 – Ṣāliḥ b. ʿUqba b. Qays b. Samʿān b. Abī Dhabīḥa, client of the Messenger of God ى اP عليه ّ صل وآله. He narrated from Abū ʿAbdillāh عليه السلام . A ghālī, a liar, he is not turned to.

And whatever is narrated from Ṣalih ibn Uqbah, I have narrated it from Muhammad ibn Musa ibn Al-Mutawakkil - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Ali ibn Al-Husayn Al-Saʿdaʾbadi, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid, from his father, from Muhammad ibn Sinan and Yunus ibn Abd Al-Rahman together, from Ṣalih ibn Uqbah ibn Qays ibn Saman ibn Abi Rabihah, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (swt), peace and blessings be upon him and his family.

The Commander of the Faithful (as) was asked: "How did you come to know your Lord?" He said: "By what He has introduced Himself to me." It was asked: "And how did He introduce Himself to you?" He said: "He is not similar to any image, nor can He be perceived by the senses, nor can He be compared to people. He is close in His distance and distant in His closeness, above everything, and nothing is said to be above Him. He is not referred to as being before anything, nor can He be said to be inside things like something inside something else, nor outside of things like something outside of something else. Glorified is He who is thus, and none other is like Him. Everything has a beginning."

Commander of the Faithful was questioned, “With what do you recognize your Lord?” He (AS) answered, “With what He introduced Himself.” It was said: “How did He introduce Himself to you?” He (AS) replied, No image resembles Him. He is neither perceived by the senses, nor compared with the people. He is Near in His Farness, and Far in His Nearness. He is Above all Things. It cannot be said that “something is above Him,” as He is in front of everything. It cannot be said that “He has a front,” since He is Inside Everything, but without being contained. He is Outside of Everything, but without being absent from anything. Glory be Him! There is nothing like unto Him. He is the Originator of All Things.
