Abu Abdullah Al-Razi narrated to us from Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khushnam Al-Aṣbahani, from Abdullah ibn Al-Qasim.

The Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny, said: "Verily, ‘Ali is my brother, my minister and my successor in the family, and he is the best of all who survive me, he will repay my debts and fulfil my pledges."

“My father Ja’far ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq (MGB) was asked about women having intercourse with whom the Honorable the Exalted God has declared unlawful in the Holy Quran, and women having intercourse with whom the Prophet of God (MGB) has declared unlawful in his traditions. He (MGB) replied, ‘There are thirty-four groups of women with whom having intercourse has been forbidden. Seventeen cases have been declared forbidden in the Holy Quran, and seventeen cases have been declared forbidden in the traditions. What has come in the Quran is as follows. The first case is adultery as the Honorable the Exalted God has says, ‘Nor come nigh to adultery…’ The second case is marrying women whom one’s father has married as the Honorable the Exalted God says, ‘And marry not women whom your fathers married…’ And the other cases are as follows, ‘‘Prohibited to you (For marriage) are:- Your mothers, daughters, sisters; father’s sisters, mother’s sisters; brother’s daughters, sister’s daughters; foster-mothers (who gave you suck), foster-sisters; your wives’ mothers; your step-daughters under your guardianship, born of your wives to whom ye have gone in,- no prohibition if ye have not gone in;- (Those who have been) wives of your sons proceeding from your loins; and two sisters in wedlock at one and the same time, except for what is past;’And the other cases also include women in their period of menstruation as the Honorable the Exalted God says, ‘And do not approach them until they are clean.’And the other cases also include associating with women while we are in retreat in the mosque as the Honorable the Exalted God says, ‘But do not associate with your wives while ye are in retreat in the mosques.’The cases that have been declared forbidden in the traditions are as follows. The first case is having intercourse during the days of the month of Ramazan. The second is marrying with a women who has taken the oath of condemnation after she has taken it. The third case is marrying women during the period of prohibition ; having intercourse while in the state of ritual consecration (Ihram); marrying familiar ones to whom you are forbidden to marry (since that would constitute incest); marrying a woman who has been divorced by Zihar before the payment of expiation ; marrying unbelieving women ; for a man to ever again marry a woman after he has divorced her nine times ; marrying a slave after marrying a free woman ; marrying your wife’s paternal or maternal aunts ; marrying a slave girl without the consent of her master; marrying a slave girl by a man who can afford to marry a free woman; marrying a captured female slave before her being assigned to be in someone’s possession; marrying an unbelieving woman ; having sex with a bought female slave before her being purified by Istebra ; and having sex with a ransomed slave woman after some of the ransom money has been paid.’”

Shall I narrate about the Messenger of Allah (s) for you two? So, they said: Of course – narrate to us about Abi’l Qasim. He said: I heard my father (as) say: Three days before the Messenger of Allah (s) passed away, Gabriel came down to him and said: “O Ahmad! Surely, Allah sent me to you to ennoble and honour you specifically. He asks you about that which He knows more than you regarding. He says: ‘How do you find yourself, Muhammad?’” The Prophet (s) said: “O Gabriel! I find myself distressed. O Gabriel! I find myself in agony.” On the third day, Gabriel came down with the Angel of Death. With them was an angel named Isma`il in the air, alongside seventy thousand angels. Gabriel (as) was before them, so he said: “O Ahmad! Surely, Allah sent me to you to ennoble and honour you specifically. He asks you about that which He knows more than you regarding. He says: ‘How do you find yourself, Muhammad?’” He said: “O Gabriel! I find myself distressed. O Gabriel! I find myself in agony.” So, the Angel of Death sought permission [to enter]. So, Gabriel said: “O Ahmad! This is the Angel of Death, and he seeks your permission. He has never sought anyone’s permission before you, nor will he seek anyone’s permission after you.” He said: “Grant him permission.” So, Gabriel (as) granted him permission. He entered, came before him, and said: “O Ahmad! Allah has sent me to you, and He ordered me to obey you in what you command of me. He ordered me to take your soul, but if you would hate that, then I will leave it alone.” So, the Prophet (s) said: “Would you do that, Angel of Death?” He said: “Yes. I was ordered to do that – to obey you in what you command of me.” So, Gabriel (as) said to him: “O Ahmad! Surely, Allah longs to meet you.” So, the Messenger of Allah (s) said: “O Angel of Death! Do what you have been ordered to do.” So, Gabriel (as) said: “These are my last steps in this world. Surely, you were my only need in this world.” When the Messenger of Allah (s) passed away, the wake was held. A person came whose voice was heard but whose body was not seen. So, he said: “Peace be unto you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. ‘Every soul shall taste death. You shall receive your reward on the Day of Resurrection.’ (3:185) In Allah is the consolation for every calamity, and the succession for every end, and the abode of all that goes. So, put your trust in Allah, and put your hope in Him, for afflicted is he who forbids the rewards. Peace be unto you, and the mercy of Allah, and His blessings.” `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) said: “Do you know who this is? This is al-Khidr (as).”
