“Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), has said, ‘It is of the well-being of a man who on moving aside the veil of a woman finds her white.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘A believer must not marry one who is hostile to ‘A’immah, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, and his hostility is well known.’”

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘A man’s going to bed with his woman destroys immediate payability of mahr (dower) which was for immediate payment.’”

I heard Abu Jafar Imam Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Baqir (as) say: "I do not like for a Muslim man to marry a woman who would be a co-wife to his mother, with someone other than his father."

“Abu al-Hassan, Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘One who goes to bed with his wife in the night of the end of a lunar month when the moon is not visible at all may not remain safe from (misfortune of) premature birth of the child.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘Marry a woman of large eyes, of brunette color, wide buttocks and of medium height; and if you disliked, her mahr (dowry) is on me.’”

“I once asked the virtuous servant of Allah about the case of a young girl who does not experience Hayd (menses) when girls like her become pregnant and her husband has divorced her. He (the Imam) said, ’Her waiting period is three months.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who marries a woman for one thousand dirham and pays to her; but she gives it as a gift to him and says, ‘I am interested in you.’ He then divorces her before going to bed with her.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘He must return to her five hundred dirham.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that people who perform al-Hajj or al-‘Umrah are delegates before Allah. If they ask Him for help, He grants their wishes; if they pray, He answers their prayers; if they intercede on behalf of someone, their intercession is honored; if they remain silent, He initiates and He compensates them for every dirham a million dirham.”

I asked Abu Abdullah (as) about a man who said to his wife, "I have given you the choice," and she chose herself before standing up. Imam (as) said: "That is valid against him." I asked: "Is she entitled to maintenance (compensation)?" Imam (as) said: "Yes." I asked: "Does she inherit if the husband dies before her waiting period ends?" Imam (as) said: "Yes, and if she dies, the husband inherits from her."

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘In Islam al-Jalb, al-Janb and Shighar are not permissible. Shighar is one man’s giving in marriage his daughter or sister to another man to marry this man’s daughter or sister without any amount of mahr (dower) being assigned to anyone of them except that this person marries that person and the other person marries the other person.’” Al-Jalb means that a tax collector commands the tax payers to deliver what they owe to him even if he is far away. Al-Janb means in horse racing keeping of a spare horse on the side so that when one horse is exhausted the second horse can continue the race.

it was said to him [the Imam]: a man marries a small girl who goes on to be breast-fed by one of his wives and then by another wife, Ibn Shubruma said [about this]: the small girl and both of his wives are prohibited for him [he cannot continue in marriage with them]. Abu Ja`far عليه السلام said: Ibn Shubruma has made a mistake, only the small girl and the wife who breast-fed her first are prohibited for him, as for the other wife [who breast-fed second] she is not prohibited for him because it is as though she breast-fed his daughter.

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a woman who is married, but before going to bed with her husband, has died leaving behind her mother, two brothers from her father and mother and her grandfather, who is the father of her mother, and her husband. He (the Imam) said, ‘The husband receives one-half and the rest belongs to her mother. The grandfather does not receive anything; his daughter bars him from inheritance and brothers do not receive anything.’”

I asked Abu Abdillah (as) about a man who married a woman and later found her to have a genital defect (imperforation or obstruction). Imam (as) said: "Such a woman cannot conceive and should be returned to her family." I said: What if he had already consummated the marriage with her? Imam (as) said: "If he knew about the defect before having relations with her and still proceeded, then he has accepted her. However, if he only discovered it after consummating the marriage, then he has the choice to either keep her or return her to her family. In either case, she is entitled to keep what he gave her for making her private parts lawful to him."

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who marries a woman for one thousand dirham. He then gives her a runaway slave and a gown made of silk for one thousand dirham for her mahr (dower). He (the Imam) said, ‘If she agrees for the slave and knows his condition, then it is not unlawful if she takes possession of the clothes and has agreed for the slave.’ I then asked, ‘What happens if he divorces her before going to bed with her?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘She will have no mahr (dower) and has to return five hundred dirham and the slave is for her.’”

“I once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who marries a woman and sets a mahr (dower) of one thousand dirham and gives her a runaway slave and a gown of Hibr for the one thousand set as mahr (dower). He (the Imam) said, ’If she knows about the slave and has agreed, then it is not unlawful if she has taken delivery of the cloths and has agreed about the slave.’ I then asked, ’What happens if he divorces her before going to bed with her? He (the Imam) said, ‘She has no mahr (dower) and she must return five hundred dirham and the slave is for her.’”

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Al-H’ajj (people who perform al-Hajj) are of three kinds. The one with the best share is one all of whose sins, those of the past and those to come are forgiven, and Allah protects him against the torments in the grave. Next to this is one whose sins of the past are forgiven but he begins his good deeds for the rest of his life. After these two is one who receives safety for his own self, family and property.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If a man marries a woman, then divorces before going to bed with her, she then does not need to count her waiting period. She can marry whomever she wants in the same hour after divorce and she becomes stranger to him by one divorce.’” Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from ibn Sama‘ah from Salih ibn Khalid and ‘Ubays ibn Hisham from Thabit ibn Shurayh from abu Basir from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), a similar Hadith .

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who marries and finds Qarn in her. He (the Imam) said, ‘She cannot become pregnant, so she is returned to her family and the husband abstains from going to bed with her to return her to her family.’ I then asked, ‘What happens if he has gone to bed with her?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘If he knew about it before going to bed with her then went to bed, he has agreed and if he comes to know it after going to bed then he can keep if he so wishes, or return her and she can have what she has received as mahr (dower).”’

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Once a young man from al-Ansar (people of al- Madinah) came to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, and complained about his needs. He (the Messenger of Allah) told him to become married. The young man said, “I feel shy to come to the Messenger of Allah to ask for help again.” A man from al-Ansar (people of al-Madinah) followed him and said, “I have a beautiful daughter.” He gave her in marriage to him. Allah granted increase in his sustenance. The young man came to the Holy Prophet, informed him of his condition and the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, said, “You, the young people, must get married.’””
