“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Our Shi’a (followers) are those who when alone speak of Allah very often.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘Can people leave for Mina early in the morning ? 5 He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, they can do so until sunset . ‘“

Prophet, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family, said: The one who obeys Allah has certainly remembered Allah, even if his prayers, fasting and recitation (of the Qur’an) are little. The one who disobeys Allah has certainly forgot Allah, even if his prayers, fasting and recitation of the Qur’an are much.

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.) when coming out of the house would say, ‘In the name of Allah, I have come out, in Allah I have place my trust, and there are no means and no power without Allah.’”

“At bedtime he (abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.)) would say, ‘I believe in Allah and reject the devil. O Lord, protect me in my sleep and when I am awake.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘It is not an offense to speak of Allah when you are urinating; speaking of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, is good in all conditions. Do not feel embarrassed about it.’”

“I asked Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) about the death of the believing persons. The Imam said, ‘A believing person may die in any form of death, drowning, by the debris of falling buildings, or beasts may cause his death. He may die because of lightning except when speaking of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Jesus would say, “Do not speak a great deal in things other than speaking of Allah. Those who speak a great deal in things other than speaking of Allah are hardhearted, but they do not know it.’””

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), commanded to bring meat but it became cold and later it was brought. He (the Imam) said, ‘All praise belongs to Allah who made me to have the appetite for it.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘Bounty in good health is better than the bounty with constraints.”’

“About the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘There are men who do not become distracted from speaking of Allah because of trading and business.’ (24:37) He (the Imam) said, ‘They are the business people who do not become distracted from speaking of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, because of trade and business when it is time for Salat (prayer). They yield to the rights of Allah in such times.’”

“In the morning say, ‘O Lord, I seek protection from the evil of what You have created, spread and released in Your land and in Your servants. O Lord, I plead before You through Your glory, beauty, forbearance and honor for such and such favors . . . and mention your wishes.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has stated this Hadith. ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, “Allah forgives a family who come together, prepare the table of food, they all mention the name of Allah at the beginning of food and praise Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, at the end of food.’”

O Lord, You are free of all defects, how good is Your trial for us. O Lord, You are free of all defects, and how great is what You have granted us, O Lord, You are free of all defects, how often it is that You give us good health, O Lord, expand our sustenance and for the poor believers, male and female and Muslims.’”

“If a people gather together in a place and do not make any remembrance of Allah, the Most Majestic and Glorious, and do not make any remembrance of us, that gathering will become a regret for them on the Day of Judgment.’ he then said, ‘Abu Ja’far (a.s.) has said, “Our remembrance is from the remembrance of Allah, and the remembrance of our enemies is the remembrance of Satan.’”

The Messenger of Allah, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family, said: Which of the ropes of faith is the most solid? They said: Allah and His Messenger are more knowledgeable. Some of them said (it is) prayer, some others said (it is) alms tax, some others said (it is) fasting, some others said (it is) pilgrimage and Umrah, and some others said (it is) striving. The Messenger of Allah, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family, then said: To all that which you said, there is virtue, but it is not with it. However, the most solid of the ropes of faith is love for the sake of Allah, hatred for the sake of Allah, befriending the Allies of Allah and dissociation from the enemies of Allah, Exalted and Glorious is He.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.), when solemnizing a marriage at the table of food would say no more than his saying, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, he would ask forgiveness from Allah and say, ‘We have given to you in marriage on the condition of Allah.’ Then Ali ibn Al-Husayn (a.s.), would say, ‘If Allah is praised then Khutbah is complete (proposal, or the speech before solemnization).”’

“Once I mentioned fear before Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) and he said, ‘I should tell you something that after saying it you will not be frightened during the day or night, say, “In the name of Allah, with (the help of) Allah, I place my trust before Allah; whoever places his trust before Allah, He is suffices him and Allah completes his affairs. Allah has assigned a measure for everything. O Lord, place me under Your protection, in Your neighborhood, include me in Your amnesty and under Your protection.’ I (the narrator) heard the case of a man who had practiced this for thirty years. He did not say it one night and a scorpion bit him.’”

“Each coming day says to the sons of Adam, ‘O son of Adam, I am a new day and a witness over you. Say good in me and do good deeds; I will testify for or against you on the Day of Judgment. You will never see me thereafter.’ The Imam said that Ali (a.s.) in the evening would say, ‘Welcome to the new night, and witnessing ascribe. Both of you write down in the name of Allah.’ Then he would speak of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy.’”

The following three are the hardest things to do for a believer: to be fair regarding oneself and not wanting anything for others unless we want that for ourselves too; financially helping our brothers and remembering God in all circumstances - that is not just saying ‘Glory to God, Praise to God, There is no god but God’, but accepting any commands of God and abstaining from what God has forbidden.”

“In al-Madinah there was a man with us, called abu al-Qamqa’m who was unfortunate. He went to abu al-Hassan (a.s.), and complained before him against his condition and informed him (the Imam) that wherever he goes for something he fails. Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), said, ‘In your last prayer in the morning, say, ‘Free of all defect is Allah, most Great. I ask forgiveness from Allah and plead before Him for help through His generosity’, ten times.’ Abu Qamqa’m has said, ‘I kept doing it and after very little time a people from village came to me and told me that a man from my people has died and there no heir is found for him except me. I went with them and received his legacy which made me rich.’”
