“O' Hafs! Whoever is patient, will be patient for a little while, and whoever is impatient is impatient for a little while (implying that both are transient).”

Everything in this book that is narrated from Sulayman ibn Hafs Al-Marwazi has been transmitted by me from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Sa'd ibn Abdullah, from Ahmad ibn Abi Abdullah Al-Barqi, from Sulayman ibn Hafs Al-Marwazi.

Al-Husayn ibn Al-Haytham narrated to us, saying: Sulayman ibn Dawud Al-Munqari narrated to us, from Hafs ibn Ghayath. Additionally, I have narrated it from my father - may Allah (swt) have mercy on him - from Sa'd ibn Abdullah, from Al-Qasim ibn Muhammad Al-Isfahani, from Sulayman ibn Dawud Al-Munqari, from Hafs ibn Ghayath Al-Nakha'i, the judge (qadi).

Everything in this book that is narrated from Wahib ibn Hafs has been transmitted by me from Muhammad ibn Ali Majilawayh - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from his uncle Muhammad ibn Abi Al-Qasim, from Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Hamdani, from Wahib ibn Hafs Al-Kufi, who was known as Al-Muntaf.

“O Hafs, seventy sins of an ignorant person may be forgiven before only one sin of a learned person is forgiven.”

Everything in this book that is narrated from Hafs ibn Salim has been transmitted by me from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Sa'd ibn Abdullah, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-Khattab, from Ja'far ibn Bashir, from Hammad ibn 'Uthman, from Hafs Abu Wallad ibn Salim Al-Kufi, who was a freed servant (mawla).

Everything in this book that is narrated from Hafs ibn Al-Bukhtari has been transmitted by me from my father and from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) be pleased with them both - from Sa'd ibn Abdullah and Abdullah ibn Ja'far Al-Himyari together, from Ya'qub ibn Yazid, from Muhammad ibn Abi 'Umayr, from Hafs ibn Al-Bukhtari Al-Kufi.

“Whoever puts what he knows into practice will not need what he does not know.”

“I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘There was a woman in al-Madinah and people left their slave-girls with her to train them. We said that there is no one on whom wealth is poured as it is poured before her.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is because she spoke the truth, returned the trust safely and that is what attracts wealth.’ Safwan has said, ‘I heard this Hadith from Hafs later on.’”

I saw Abu Abdullah (asws) alone in the gardens of Al-Kufa. He (asws) came to a palm tree, so he (asws) performed ablution near it, then bowed and prostrated. I counted in his (asws) prostration five hundred Glorifications (Tasbeeh). Then he (asws) leaned on the palm tree and supplicated by a supplication. Then he (asws) said: ‘O Abu Hafs! By Allah (azwj), it is the palm tree about which Allah (azwj) Said to Maryam (as): “[19:25] And shake towards you the trunk of the palm tree, it will drop on you fresh ripe dates”.

"It is disliked (makruh) due to the reproach it may bring upon her family."

“I heard Musa ibn Ja’far (a.s.) asking a man, ‘Do you like to live forever in this world’? The man said, ‘Yes, I do so.’ The Imam asked, ‘Why would you do so?’ The man said, ‘So that I can read {Say, "He is God, the One"}’ The Imam (a.s.) remained calm for a while and after an hour said, ‘O Hafs, if any of our lovers and our Shi’a (followers) do not do good in reading the Quran, in his grave he will receive instruction to read so that Allah will raise him with his proper status; the positions and degrees in paradise are proportionate to the verses of the Quran. One will be told to read and climb. He then reads and climbs up.’ Hafs has said, ‘I never saw anyone more afraid for himself than Musa ibn Ja’far (a.s.) or more hopeful in all people. His reading was full of sadness. When reading the Quran he seemed like addressing (speaking to) a human being.’”

Soleiman ibn Hafs visited both Musa ibn Ja’far (s) and Al-Ridha (s) and I do not know from which of the two Imams (s) this tradition has been narrated on the authority of.”

295. Wuheyb Bin hafs, from Abu Baseer who said: Abu Abdullah (asws) said: ‘There is none from the servants who calls to the misguidance except that he finds the one who follows him’.

"Indeed, the disbeliever visits their family and sees what displeases them, while what they would like is concealed from them (by the accompanying angels)."

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Chess is of falsehood.’”

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), would take part in horse racing contests and sharp-shooting.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Settlement by means of mutual agreement is permissible for people.’”

"It suffices."

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Beware of jokes; it takes away the dignity of one’s face.’”
