1 – Tamīm b. ʿAbdullāh b. Tamīm, al-Qarashī. Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad b. Bābawayh narrated from him. Weak.

I have come to know of your strictness with Banū Tamīm [1] and your harshness over them. Banū Tamīm are those that if one star sets another one rises for them. They were never exceeded in (the art of) war in pre-Islamic times or after Islam. They have a special kinship with us and a particular relationship. We shall be rewarded if we pay heed to the kinship and be deemed sinful if we disregard it.

Isma’il asked his father As-Sadiq (a.s.), ‘O father! What is your opinion about a sinner from our family or one not from our family?’ As-Sadiq (a.s.) replied, ‘Neither your desires, nor those of the People of the Book (can prevail): whoever works evil, will be requited accordingly...’”

“I was with Ar-Ridha’ (a.s.) when a group of people from Qum entered and greeted him. The Imamgreeted them back and paid his respects to them. Then Ar-Ridha’ (a.s.) told them, ‘You are welcome. You are truly our followers. There will come a time when you will visit my shrine in Toos. Indeed, whoever visits me having already performed the ritual bathing (‘Ghusl) will be purified from all his sins just as the day he was born from his mother.’”

“Tamim al-Dariy, ibn Baydiy and ibn Mariya once left for a journey. Tamim al-Dariy was a Muslim but ibn Baydiy and ibn Mariya were Christians and they were with Tamim al-Dariy who had certain assets and utensils, which were decorated with gold, and a necklace that he took for the Arab markets for sale. Tamim al-Dariy became ill severely and the time of his death came. He gave whatever he had to ibn Baydiy and ibn Mariya and asked them to deliver it to his heirs. The two came to al-Madinah, delivered the other things but they had taken the utensils and the necklace. The heirs found the utensils missing; so the family of Tamim asked the two men, ’Did he (Tamim) remain ill for a long time and incurred a large amount of expenses?’ The two replied, ‘He remained ill only for few days.’ They then asked, ’Was anything stolen from him during his journey?’ The two replied, ‘No, nothing was stolen from him during his journey.’ They then asked, ‘Did he make any business deals that caused him losses?’ The two replied, ‘No, he did not make any such deals.’ They then said, ‘The most expensive things are missing like the utensils decorated with gold and gems and a necklace.’ The two said, ‘Whatever he gave to us we have given to you.’ They then took the two before the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, and he (the Messenger of Allah) judged that the two must take an oath. The two took an oath and they were released but the utensils and necklace were seen with them. The heirs of Tamim went to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, saying, ‘O Messenger of Allah, our assets have been seen in the possession of ibn Baydiy and ibn Mariya.’ The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, waited to hear from Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, a judgment in the case. Allah, most Blessed, most High, then revealed, ‘Believers, when death approaches any one of you, allow two just men from your own people (Muslims) or any two other men (people of the book), if incident of death befalls you on a journey, bear witness to the bequest. [Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, applied the testimony of the people of the book about the will when it is on a journey and Muslims are not found] If you have any doubts about their (others’) honesty, detain them and allow them take an oath after the prayer, each one of them saying, “I swear by Allah that my testimony is true. I am not selling the Truth for a paltry price even though the beneficiary would be one of my relatives. I do not hide the testimony which is the right of Allah, for then I will be one of the sinners.” (5:106)’ This is the testimony, which is sanctioned by the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. Tf their honesty is challenged, [they took false oath], two others from the relatives of the deceased should swear in the same way and testify to the bequest saying, “We swear by Allah that our testimony is the more accurate one. We do not transgress in the matter lest we become unjust ones.” (5:107)’ The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, commanded the heirs of Tamim al-Dariy to take an oath according to His command. They took an oath and the Messenger of Allah took the utensils and the necklace from ibn Baydiy and ibn Mariya and returned them to the heirs of Tamim al-Dariy. This is the least in presenting the testimony as it is for fear of another oath’s rejection of their oath thereafter.”

18. Al-Hassan ibn Ali al-‘Alawi has said the following. “Al-Majruh left a certain amount of commodities that was of the dues to the holy location with Mirdas ibn Ali. With Mirdas there was already such commodities that Yatim ibn Hanzala had left. Amessage came to Mirdas and it said, “Send (to us) the commodities of Yatim and whatever al-Shirazi (Majruh) has left with you.”

“Do not get fooled by what he says. I swear by God that he is my murderer. However, I have no choice but to be patient until my pre-recorded time of death arrives.”

“Once, two men recognized a camel and each one presented testimony. ’ Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali (a.s.), made it half and half for them.’”

two men laid claim to a camel and each one of them produced evidence (to back up his claim) so the commander of the faithful عليه السلام made it out to both of them.

They whose eyes were under a cover from My Reminder and they could not even hear. Consequently, he (AS) replied, Verily, covering the eyes does not stop them from remembering Allah, and remembering Allah cannot be done with the eyes. However, Allah, the Mighty and High, has compared those who reject the guardianship of `Ali ibn Abu Talib (AS) with blindness, because they use to find the words of the Prophet (SA) burdensome, and they could not bear to hear them. Al-Ma`mun then said: “You have relieved me. May Allah relieve you!”

“Once a man from the people of Tamim came to the Holy Prophet and said, ‘Instruct me with good advice.’ Of the good advice given to him was: ‘Do not revile people; it only earns their animosity against you.’”

I had a dream. In my dream God’s Prophet (s) told me to give Najma to my son Musa (s). The Prophet (s) told me that Najma and Musa (s) will have a child who will be the best man on the Earth. Then I gave her to my son Musa (s).’ When Najma gave birth to Imam Al-Ridha (s), Imam Musa Al-Kadhim (s) named her Taherah. She also had other names including Najma, Arwa, Sakan, Samaneh and Toktam. Toktam was her last name.” Ali ibn Maysam added on the authority of his father, “I heard my mother say that Najma was a girl when Lady Hamideh bought her.”

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has stated this Hadith. ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, once advised a man from banu Tamim and said to him, ‘You must never allow the loincloth and shirt to hang down to drag; it is the sign of arrogance and Allah does not love arrogance.’”

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘Once an Arab man from the tribe of banu al-Tamim came to see the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, and said, ‘Please grant me good advice.’ The good advice the Holy Prophet provided was this, ‘O so and so, do not withhold Benevolent Assistance from deserving recipients.’”

Blowing at three things is detestable: blowing at a talisman, blowing at food, and blowing at the place of prostration.”

“Once an Arab man came to the Holy Prophet and said, ‘Instinct me with good advice.’ Of the good advice to him was: ‘Love people, they will love you.’”

O the shrine of the Master!No one else existed like the MasterGuidance perished after himAnd death followed it.O his shrine! May not God’s blessings upon you ever endEvery evening and every dawn, like a breeze;To us he was like a rain full of mercy;From which we were nourished.To us he was like a bright star;With whose light we could find our way.Then indeed sunk Ali ibn Musa Ar-Ridha’ in mireand sovereignty is with the unbeliever.O eyes, then I shall cry blood after himOver the extinction of glory and sovereignty!Also Ali ibn Abu Abdullah al-Khawwafi eulogized Ar-Ridha’ (a.s.) in the following poem:May God’s Grace water thee, O land of Toos!What treasures has your land down deep!In the world your land is known to be goodMade good by one in Sanabad asleep,A man whose murder was hard on IslamA man wrapped and drenched in God’s Mercy.O the grave of his (ar-Ridha’)! In thee clemency,Knowledge, purity, and glory abound.O envied grave! Angels do thee guard!

I heard Najma, the mother of Imam Al-Ridha (s), say, ‘When I was pregnant with my son Ali, I did not feel any burden. I used to hear God’s praises, glorification and supplications from my stomach when I slept. I got scared hearing these sounds and woke up to hear nothing more when I was awake. Once I gave birth to my child, he put both of his hands on the ground, and raised his head towards the sky and moved his lips as if he was saying something.’ His father, Musa ibn Ja’far (s) came to me said, ‘O Najma! Congratulations for this Divine Blessing that God has bestowed upon you.” Then I wrapped the baby in white cloth and handed him to Imam Al-Kadhim (s) He (s) said the ‘Azan in his right ear and the Iqamah in his left ear. Then he (s) asked for some water from the Euphrates River and gave the infant (Imam Ridha) some of it. Then he gave the baby back to me and said, “Take him. He is God’s Continuation (baqiyyatulah) on the Earth.”

“Whenever any of you finish your Hajj pilgrimage to the Kaaba, come to (Khorasan to) complete your Hajj pilgrimage by visiting us (i.e. Ar-Ridha’’s (a.s.) shrine). This indeed will complete the Hajj.”

We were with Amir-ul-Momineen (asws), so the earth became restless (tremor). So he (asws) gestured with his (asws) hand, then said to it: ‘Calm down! What is the matter with you?’ Then he (asws) turned towards us and said: ‘But, had it been that (quake) which Allah (azwj) Mighty and Majestic has Said, it would have answered me (asws), but it is not that one’.
