البراء بن معرور الأنصاري الخزرجي

"Al-Bara' ibn Marur Al-Ansari was in Medina while the Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace be upon him and his family) was in Mecca. When death approached him (Al-Bara'), and while the Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace be upon him and his family) and the Muslims were still praying towards Bayt Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem), Al-Bara' ibn Marur instructed that his face be turned towards the direction of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family), towards the Kabah. He also bequeathed one-third of his wealth. Thus, this practice became a Sunnah (established tradition)."

Three traditions were ascribed to Al-Bara’ ibn Ma’rur al-Ansari . The people used to clean themselves up with stones when they went to the toilet. Once Al-Bara’ ibn Ma’rur had eaten a lot of pumpkin so he got diarrhea and washed himself with water after going to the toilet. Then the Honorable the Exalted God revealed the following verse, ‘…For Allah loves those who turn to Him constantly and He loves those who keep themselves pure and clean.’ Thereafter, washing up with water after going to the toilet became established as a tradition.Al-Bara’ ibn Ma’rur al-Ansari was outside Medina when he was about to pass away. He asked that he be turned facing the Prophet (MGB) who was in Medina, and willed that one-third of his inheritance be spent in charity. Thus, these three acts became established traditions.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, once asked banu Salmah, ‘O banu Salmah, who is your master and leader?’ They replied, ‘O Messenger of Allah, our chief is a stingy man.’ The Messenger of Allah then said, ‘No illness is more serious than stinginess.’ He then said, ‘In fact, your chief is al-Bara’ ibn Ma‘rur, whose body is white.’”

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that al-Bara’ ibn Ma’rur al-Ansariy lived in al-Madinah. The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, lived in Makkah, and with his companions performed Salat (prayer) facing the direction of Bayt al-Maqdis. Al-Bara’ made a will that said, ‘His face in grave must be kept toward the direction to which the Holy Prophet performs Salat (prayer) and about one-third of his legacy and thus the Sunnah was established.”’

“Al-Bara’ ibn Ma‘rur al-Tamimiy al-Ansariy was in al-Madinah and the Messenger of Allah was in Makkah. He died when the Messenger of Allah and Muslims would face Jerusalem during prayer. He said in his will that when he died, the Messenger of Allah should place him facing Qiblah in the grave. This became a Sunnah (tradition). He also said in his will that one-third of his properties should be given to the needy. A verse in the Holy Quran was revealed about one-third of the properties of a deceased and it became an established Sunnah (tradition).”
