23 – Muḥammad b. Qays, Abū Naṣr, al-Asadī. Thiqa thiqa.

From the servant of Allāh, Amīr al-mu’minīn to ‘Abdullāh ibn Qays:

To al-Ash‘ath ibn Qays (al-Kindī), the Governor of Āzarbāyjān

291. Amīr al-mu’minīn, peace be upon him, said in condoling Ash‘ath ibn Qays about (the death of) his son:

And whatever is narrated from Umar ibn Qays Al-Maṣir, I have narrated it from my father and from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) have mercy on them - from Saʿd ibn Abdullah, from Ahmad ibn Abi Abdillah Al-Barqi, from his father, from Muhammad ibn Sinan and others, from Umar ibn Qays Al-Maṣir.

“Once ibn Qays al-Masir and ‘Amr ibn Dharr - 1 think also abu Hanifah - came to see abu Ja’far (a.s.). Ibn Qays al-Masir spoke and said, ‘We do not expel people of our own mission and people of our own nation from belief just because of disobedience and sin.’ Abu Ja’far (a.s.) said, ‘O ibn Qays, the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘One does not fornicate while he is a believer, and one does not steal while he is a believer.’ You and your people may go wherever you wish.’”

414. In another tradition it is related that Amīr al-mu’minīn, peace be upon him, said to al-Ash‘ath ibn Qays by way of condolence on the death of his son:

person in the grave was Qays ibn Fahd al-Ansari (in another narration: Qays ibn Qumayr) When asked why he placed the branches, He (sw) replied: "Indeed, the punishment is lessened as long as they remain green."

Instructions given to Ma‘qil ibn Qays ar-Riyāḥī when he was dispatched to Syria at the head of a vanguard contingent three thousand strong.

34 – Sulaym b. Qays al-Hilālī. No one but Abān b. Abī ʿAyyash has narrated from him. And in his book there are notorious unrecognized (things). And I do not deem it to be but fabricated.

About those who found pretexts at the time of jihād

"The Commander of the Faithful (as) ruled that if the eye of a horse is gouged out, the compensation is a quarter of its value on the day its eye was gouged out."

"If a man kills his mother by mistake, he inherits from her. However, if he kills her intentionally, he does not inherit from her."

I heard Abu Jafar Imam Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Baqir (as) say: "A Jew and a Christian do not inherit from Muslims, but Muslims inherit from Jews and Christians."

2 – Ṣāliḥ b. ʿUqba b. Qays b. Samʿān b. Abī Dhabīḥa, client of the Messenger of God ى اP عليه ّ صل وآله. He narrated from Abū ʿAbdillāh عليه السلام . A ghālī, a liar, he is not turned to.

“Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, loves offering the greeting of peace openly, loud and clearly.”

"He (the rightful owner) takes her back and also takes the value of her child."

"Whoever guarantees a trader is entitled only to the principal amount and has no share in the profit."

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.) has said, ‘Entering paradise is prohibited to spies and gossip mongers.’”

“One day during a war I looked on a man who was wearing two pieces of garment on him. I moved my horse nearer to him and I found him to be Amir al-Mu’minin (Ali ibn abu Talib) (a.s.) and I said, ‘O Amir al-Mu’minin, is this a place (to be in with just two pieces of garment and no coats of arms)?’ The Imam said, ‘Yes, O Sa’id ibn al-Qays. For every servant of Allah there is a guard from Allah and a protecting angel to see that he will not fall off of a cliff or into a well, but when the appointed time comes for his death the angels just leave him alone to his own self.’”
