عثمان بن مظعون

Hadith.450 - Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) said: "The Messenger of Allah (sw) kissed ‘Uthman ibn Maz'un after his death."

“Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah kissed ‘Uthman ibn Maz’un after his death.”

The Prophet (sw) heard a woman when 'Uthman ibn Maz'un died, saying, "Congratulations to you, O Abu al-Sa'ib, for the Paradise." The Prophet (sw) said, "How do you know? It is enough for you to say: He loved Allah, the Almighty, and His Messenger." When Ibrahim, the son of the Messenger of Allah (sw), passed away, the eyes of the Messenger of Allah (sw) overflowed with tears, and then the Prophet (sw) said, "The eyes shed tears, and the heart grieves, but we do not say what displeases the Lord. Indeed, O Ibrahim, we are truly grieved by your departure." Then the Prophet (sw) saw a gap in his grave and leveled it with his hand, saying, "When any of you does something, let him do it with excellence." Then he said, "Join (O Ibrahim) your righteous predecessor, 'Uthman ibn Maz'un."

when Ruqayya the daughter of the messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله died, the messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله said: meet up with our righteous predecessors Uthman b. Madh`un and his fellows …

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, “Uthman ibn Maz‘un once said to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, “I had decided to give up certain things, of which one is perfumes and other things.” The Messenger of Allah said, ‘You must not give up perfume; the angels smell fine perfume from believing people, so you must not ignore applying perfumes on Fridays.’”

“When Ruqayyah, daughter of the Messenger of Allah passed away, the Messenger of Allah said, ’You now join the people of good deeds of our predecessors like ’Uthman ibn Madh'un and his friends.’ The Imam said, "Fatimah (AS) stood on the edge of the grave with her tears falling into the grave, and the Messenger of Allah allowed his tears to fall in his clothes. While standing he (the Messenger of Allah) prayed saying, 'I am aware of her weakness and pray to Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, to grant her protection against the pressure of the grave.'"

Uthman ibn Mazoon told the Prophet (a.s): “O' Prophet of God! I have decided to castrate myself.” He replied: “O' Uthman! Calm down. Castration among my people is achieved by fasting and praying.” He said: “I place a lot of value on travelling.” The Prophet (a.s) said: “O' Uthman! Wait. My nation's travelling is their presence in the mosques and waiting for prayers after prayers.” He said: “I have decided not to have any meat.”The Prophet (a.s) said: “O' Uthman! Give me a chance. I eat meat and like it. I will even eat meat everyday if I can get some.” He said: “O' Prophet of God! May my parents be your devoted servants. I have decided not to use scent anymore.” The Prophet (a.s) said: “O' Uthman! Wait a moment. I use scent and like good scents. It is one of my traditions and one of the traditions of the previous Prophets.”

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that once wife of ‘Uthman ibn Maz‘un came to the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, ‘Uthman, fasts during the day and stands up for Salat (prayer) during the night.’ The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, came out with anger carrying his shoes until he reached ‘Uthman and found him performing Salat (prayer). When ‘Uthman completed, he saw the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, who said to him, “O ‘Uthman, why did Allah not sent me to behave like a monk, however, He has sent me to be right-minded, planner and magnanimous. I fast, perform Salat (prayer) and touch my wife. Whoever likes my nature (culture) must adopt my Sunnah (manners) and of my Sunnah is marriage.’”

A son of `Uthman b. Math`un (ra) passed away, and his grief intensified to the point where he took to a place of prayer in his house and kept vigil therein. The Messenger of Allah (s) was told about that, so he said to him: O `Uthman! Allah has not proscribed monasticism for us. Surely, the monasticism of my Nation is striving in the way of Allah. O `Uthman b. Math`un! Paradise has eight gates, and the Fire has seven gates. Does it not gladden you that you will not go to any of these gates except that you will find your son taking you by the trousers and interceding for you to your Lord? He said: Of course. So, the Muslims said: Us too, O Messenger of Allah – will those who passed on [intercede for us] in the same way as `Uthman [and his son]? He said: Yes, for those of you who are patient and anticipant. Then, he said: O `Uthman! Whoever prays Fajr in congregation, then sits and remembers Allah until sunrise, will have seventy ranks in the Highest Paradise – between each rank is seventy years of the travel distance of a destrier. Whoever prays Dhuhr in congregation will have fifty ranks in the Garden of Eden – between each rank is fifty years of the travel distance of a destrier. Whoever prays `Asr in congregation will have the reward of one who frees eighty descendants of Isma`il. Whoever prays Maghrib in congregation, it is as though he performs a virtuous Hajj and an accepted `Umra. Whoever prays `Isha’ in congregation, it is as though he kept vigil on the Night of Power.
