عثمان بن حنيف: الأنصاري: عربي، من أصحاب أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام، رجال الشيخ (11). وعده البرقي من شرطة الخميس من أصحاب أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام. وكذلك الشيخ المفيد - قدس سره - في الاختصاص: ص 3. وذكره ابن شهرآشوب أنه شهد وقعة الجمل مع أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام، وقال: شهدت الحروب فشيبتني فلم أر يوما كيوم الجمل. المناقب: الجزء 3، باب إمامة أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام، في (فصل في حرب الجمل). وتقدم في ترجمة البراء بن مالك، قول الفضل بن شاذان: إنه من السابقين الذين رجعوا إلى أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام. وتقدم أيضا في ترجمة جندب بن جنادة: أنه من الذين مضوا على منهاج نبيهم صلى الله عليه وآله، ولم يغيروا ولم يبدلوا. وهو من الاثني عشر الذين أنكروا على أبي بكر، ذكره الطبرسي في الاحتجاج: الجزء 1، في ذكر طرف مما جرى بعد وفاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله. وذكر المفيد - قدس سره - أنه كان عامل أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام على البصرة، وقد أخرجه منها أهلها بعد الضرب المبرح ونكثهم بيعة أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام، وقد حث أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام أصحابه على قتالهم، وذكر ما جرى منهم على عثمان بن حنيف. الارشاد: باب مختصر من كلامه، في فصل من كلامه عليه السلام حين دخل البصرة، وفي فصل ذكر كتابته عليه السلام بالفتح إلى أهل الكوفة.
