“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, “Aqiqah is obligatory.’”

Drops of water from the Euphrates should be dropped in the newborn’s mouth, and Iqamah should be recited in his ear.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about ‘ Aqiqah : if it is obligatory or not. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, it is obligatory.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about ‘Aqiqah and he (the Imam) said, ‘ ‘Aqiqah for a boy and a girl is the same, one ram for this and one ram for this.’”

“I once asked abu Ibrahim (a.s.), about ‘Aqiqah for one who is affluent and one who is poor. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not necessary for one who cannot find anything.’”

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), disliked shaving the head of a child a little and leaving the top middle of the head unshaved, which is called a/-Qaza’.’”

“The Messenger of Allah (sw) has said, ‘Whoever has a newborn child, let them recite the call to prayer (adhan) in their right ear, and let them recite the iqamah in their left (ear), for it serves as protection from the accursed Satan.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has stated this Hadith. ’Once a child was brought to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, so that he (the Messenger of Allah) might pray for him but the child had Qanazi ‘ and he (the Messenger of Allah) refused to pray for him. He (the Messenger of Allah) instructed them to shave his head entirely. The Messenger of Allah commanded to shave belly hairs

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the ‘Aqiqah, shaving, giving a name to the newborn and that which one should come first. He (the Imam) said, ‘All of it should be done in one hour, shaving, slaughtering the animal offered for ‘Aqiqah and naming the child.’ He (the Imam) then mentioned what Fatimah, ‘Alayha al-Salam, had done for her children. He (the Imam) then said, ‘The hairs are weighed and equal to its weight silver is given in charity.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, about Aqiqah : if it is obligatory. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, Aqiqah must be offered for him, his head is shaved when he is seven days old and his hairs are weighed with silver or gold to be given in charity. One-fourth of the sheep is served to al-Qabilah (the special nurse, doctor). The animal for Aqiqah should be a sheep or Badanah (camel of a certain age).”’ ( Al-Qabilah according to hadith number three, chapter ninety-three is a nurse who helps a woman to give birth and also thereafter not the one who helps one to give birth only and then moves away.)

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When you offer ‘Aqiqah say, ‘In the name of Allah and with Allah; it is an ‘Aqiqah for so and so. Its flesh is for his flesh, its blood for his blood and its bones for his bones. O Lord, make it a protection for Muhammad and family of Muhammad (SAW).’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘For a child Aqiqah must be offered, his head is shaved on the seventh day and equal to the weight of his hairs silver or gold should be given in charity. One leg and hip of the animal slaughtered for ‘Aqiqah should be given to al-Qabilah (the special nurse, doctor). The animal accepted as ‘Aqiqah can be a badanah (camel) or a sheep.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah (saww) offered Aqiqah for al-Hasan with his own hands and said, 'In the name of Allah. It is an ‘Aqiqah for al-Hasan.' He (the Messenger of Allah) also said, “O Lord, its bones are for his bones, its flesh for his flesh, its blood for his blood and its hairs for his hairs. O Lord, make it a protection for Muhammad and his family.'"

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘When you slaughter the animal for ‘Aqiqah, say, “In the name of Allah, with Allah, all praise belongs to Allah and Allah is greater than can be described. (It is) the expression of (our) belief in Allah, praise in favor of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, keeping up with His command and an expression of thanks for His sustenance and due to the knowledge about His generosity to us, people of the family.” If the newborn is a male then say, “O Lord, You have granted us a boy. You know best about your gift and the favor is from You. Please accept all that we do according to Your Sunnah and the Sunnah of Your prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. Drive away and repel Satan, the one condemned to be stoned, from us. Blood is shed for Your sake, there is no partner for You and all praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds.’””

“I once asked al-Rida’ (a.s.), about when to offer congratulations for the birth of a child. He (the Imam) stated this Hadith: It was the birth of al-Hassan ibn Ali (a.s.). Jibril descended to congratulate the Holy Prophet (saww) on the seventh day and instructed to name him and give him a Kunyah, shave his head, offer ‘Aqiqah for him and pierce a hole in his ear. When al-Husayn (a.s.), was born Jibril came on the seventh day and instructed similarly.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘They both had two bunches of hairs on the left middle side of their head and the hole was in their right ear on the loop and on the left one it was on the top of the ear. Earring was in the right ear and al-Shanf (earring) on the left ear.’ It is narrated that the Holy Prophet (saww) left two bunches of hairs on the middle of their head and it is more correct than al-Qarn (the left middle of the head).”’
