al-Muʿtaqal b. ʿUmar kept company with al-Ṣādiq (ʿa) and was of al-Juʿfī. The books are divided about him: Muʿjam Rijāl al-Ḥadīth holds him reliable, while Kitāb al-Ḍuʿafāʾ weakens him.

The ascription of this book to Ibn al-Ghaḍāʾirī is disputed; al-Khoei held it unproven («الكتاب المنسوب إلى ابن الغضائري… لم يثبت»).

According to me he is thiqa in himself, however his ḥadīths – all of them – are unrecognized, and nothing is cleared from his ḥadīth that is permissible to rely upon.

al-Mu'taqal bin Umar al-Ja'fi, Abu Abdullah. In my view, he is trustworthy in himself, but all his hadiths are Munkar; nothing from his narration is reliable enough to be depended upon (Dua).
