علي الخزاز الرازي

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘Playing ‘Ud (a certain musical instrument) grows hypocrisy just as water grows green plants.’”

"A disbeliever does not inherit from a Muslim, but a Muslim may inherit from a disbeliever - unless the Muslim has made a will (wasiyyah) bequeathing something to the disbeliever."

“I said to abu Ibrahim (a.s.), “I am afraid that an incident may take place and I will not be able to see you, inform me who will be the Imam after you?” The Imam (a.s.) said, “My son, so and so, meaning thereby abu al-Hassan (a.s.).”

I said to Abu Ibrahim [Imam Musa Kadhim (a.s)]: I am afraid that something may happen and I will not be able to meet you. So tell me who the Imam is after you? Imam (a.s) replied: My son, so-and-so, meaning Abul Hasan [Imam Ali Ridha].

he heard saying, “Verily Prophet Ayyūb (a) said, ‘O Lord, I have never asked You for anything of this world, ever.’ And an inkling of self-admiration entered his heart. Then a cloud approached him and called out to him, ‘O Ayyūb, who enabled you to do this?’ [Thus he realised the mistake, and turning to his Lord] he said, ‘You, O Lord!’”

we came out heading towards Makka together with Ali b. Abi Hamza and he had with him some wealth and possessions, we said: what is this? he said: they belong to the Righteous Servant عليه السلام, he ordered me to hand them over to his son Ali عليه السلام and has made a testament in his favour.

Job (MGB) suffered for seven years without having committed any sins.”

Indeed, the Messenger of Allah, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family, will on the Day of Resurrection grab hold of the Waist Cloth of Allah, and we will grab hold of the Waist Cloth of our Prophet, and our party [1] will grab hold of our Waist Cloth. Then he said: The Waist Cloth is the Light.

“Verily, the Messenger of Allah (SA) will take hold of Allah’s Waistband [hujzah]. We will grab the Prophet’s Waistband and our Shi`ites will take hold of our Waistband.” He then said: “the Waistband is the Light [al-nur].”

Some of those who claim the affection for us –the Prophet’s household- are more dangerous for our Shia than the ordeal of the Dajjal. I asked: How do such people become dangerous? The Imam (a) answered: They support our enemies and antagonize our followers. When this occurs, the right will be confused with the wrong and the whole matter will be perplexed. Then, there will be no distinction between the believers and the hypocrites.

I heard Aba’l Hasan al-Rida (as) say: `Isa b. Maryam (as) said to the apostles: O Children of Israel! Do not regret what you miss from your world when your religion advances for you, just as the people of this world do not regret what they miss from their religion when their world advances for them.

“O Abu Hamza, the earth does not remain devoid of a scholar from us, Ahle Bayt, who may point out if people commit excess in religion and if they are deficient. And Allah does not allow this scholar to leave the world till he has not left a successor from his progeny, who has the same knowledge.”

“I asked abu Ja’far (a.s.), ‘Is there a definite time for this matter (the rise of al-Mahdi with Divine Authority)?” He said, “Those who set a definite time have lied, those who set a definite time have lied, those who set a definite time have lied. When Musa (Moses) came out to delegate before his lord and gave the people a definite time for his return and Allah added an other ten days his people said, ‘He has broken his promise.’” They then did what they did. When we say a hadith (make a statement to you) and if our hadith comes true you should say, “Allah has spoken the truth.” If we say a hadith to you ( make a statement) and if doe not come true, you should say, “Allah has spoken the truth.” You will be rewarded twice.”

“I asked Abu Abdullah as-Sadiq (as) if that matter (the appearance of al-Qa’im) had a certain appointment and he said: “The diviners tell lies! The diviners tell lies! When Prophet Moses (as) devoted himself to his Lord, he promised his people that after thirty days Allah would do away with their enemy. When Allah added ten days to the thirty, the people said that Moses had broken his promise and then they disbelieved and made a metallic calf as their god. When we tell you of something and Allah does as we have told you, you are to say that Allah has fulfilled His promise and when we tell you of something but a different thing occurs, also you are to say that Allah has fulfilled his promise. Then you will be rewarded twice.”

Are you an Imam?” “Yes,” said the Imam. He said: “But I have heard your grandfather say that Imam is only one who has an issue and heir.” He said: “O Shaykh, have you forgotten? This is not what he said; His Eminence, Ja’far has said something besides this. He said: No one becomes imam [true or false], but that he should have a successor, except for the [false] imam against whom Husain bin Ali (a.s) rose up. He did not have a successor.” He said: “You have said the truth, may I be sacrificed on you. I heard in the same way from your grandfather.”

I asked Aba Abdillah عليه السلام about the words of Allah Mighty and Majestic: “and He is Allah in the heavens and in the earth” (6:3). He said: That is how He is - everywhere. I said: by His essence? He said: Woe be upon you! Physical spaces have limits, so if you were to believe that He is ‘in a place by His essence’ then it would be necessary for you to also assert that He has limits and other such (deficiencies). Rather He is distinct from his creation. Fully encompassing what He created in terms of (His) knowledge, power, awareness and authority. His knowledge of what is in the earth is not less than that of which is in heaven. Nothing can become distant from Him. All things are equal to Him in terms of (His) knowledge, power, authority, ownership and awareness (over them).

I asked Abu `Abd Allah al-Sadiq (AS) about the Word of Allah, the Mighty and High: And He is Allah in the Heavens and in the Earth.1 He (AS) replied, “He is like that in every place.” I asked, “By His Essence?” He (AS) responded, Woe unto you! Place implies restriction. If you say: He is in a place by His Essence, it necessarily implies restrictions and other than that. However, He is Evident in His Creation. He encompasses whatever He created through His Knowledge, Omnipotence, Omniscience, Reign, and Sovereignty. His Knowledge of whatever is in the Earth is not less than His Knowledge of what is in the Heavens. Nothing is far from Him. His Knowledge, Omnipotence, Reign, Sovereignty, and Omniscience embrace all things.

Abu Abdillah عليه السلام said: I had a need which I wanted my Lord the Elevated to fulfill, so I set out to the Masjid with that purpose in mind, and this is how I used to do whenever I had a need of something. While I was praying in the Rawdha a man approached and lurked overhead. I said: where is the man from? he said: from the residents of Kufa, I said: where is the man from? He said: from the tribe of Aslam, I said: where is the man from? He said: the Zaydiyya, I said: O brother of Aslam – who do you know among them [the Zaydiyya]? he said: I know the best of them and their leader Harun b. Sa’d. I said: O brother of Aslam that one is the head of the Ijliyya! Have you not heard Allah Mighty and Majestic saying: “those who took the calf (Ijl) (for worship) will only obtain anger from their Lord and humiliation in the life of this world” (7:152) …

“I visited abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), and a man also came to him saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, my brother suffers from something that I feel embarrassed to mention.’ The Imam said, ‘Do not mention it and tell him to fast on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. When the sun declines to the west at noontime, he should go out somewhere so no one can see him while dressed in two pieces of his new or just washed clothes, and perform two Rak‘at Salah (prayer), then expose his knees, place his palms and forehead on the ground. In his Salah (prayer), he should recite al-Fatihah al-Kitab ten times. Thereafter he should recite Chapter 112 of the Holy Quran ten times, in Ruku‘ fifteen times, in sajdah ten times, between the two sajdah when sitting twenty times. He should perform four Rak‘at Salah (prayer) in this way. After completing Tashahhud (the two testimonies) he should say, “O the One who is known for His granting favor, O the First of all first ones, O the Last of all last ones, O the One who has strong power, O the One who grants sustenance to the destitute, O the most Merciful of all merciful ones. I have purchased myself from You with one- third of what I own. (With such payment) I pray to You, remove from me the evil of what I suffer from. You have power over all things.’””

When Abu Ja’far Muhammad ibn ‘Ali al-Baqir, peace be upon him, died, I said to my friends: Wait for me till I have been to Abu Abdillah Ja’far ibn Muhammad, peace be upon him, to console him. So I visited him, and consoled him saying: "We are for Allah, and unto Him shall we return." Then I confirmed: "By Allah, a man who reported from the Prophet directly, and was never asked about the chain of narrators between him and the Prophet, has passed away. By Allah, no one like shall ever be found." He said: Abu Abdillah remained silent for a few moments, and then said: "Allah, Most Glorified said: "Surely, someone from My slaves may give away in charity a piece of date, then I rear it up, the way you rear up a foal, till I will make it as big as the mountain of Uhud." When I came back to my friend, I said: "I have not seen anything more surprising than this. We were thinking highly of Abu Ja’far who reported from the Prophet directly, but Abu Abdillah has begun by saying: Allah, Most Glorified, said!"
