"I prayed with Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) for forty mornings. Whenever he finished the prayer, he would raise his hands toward the sky and say: Asbahna wa asbaha al-mulku lillah. Allahumma inna ‘ibaduka wa abna’u ‘ibadika. Allahumma ihfazna min haythu nahtafiz wa min haythu la nahtafiz. Allahumma uhrosna min haythu nahtarisu wa min haythu la nahtarisu. Allahumma usturna min haythu nastatiru wa min haythu la nastatiru. Allahumma usturna bil-ghina wa al-‘afiyah. Allahumma urzuqna al-‘afiyah wa dawama al-‘afiyah, wa urzuqna ash-shukra ‘ala al-‘afiyah 'We have entered the morning and the dominion belongs to Allah (swt). O’ Allah (swt), we are Your servants, the children of Your servants. O’ Allah (swt), protect us from every angle we strive to protect ourselves from and from angles we do not perceive. O’ Allah (swt), guard us from every direction we seek to guard ourselves and from those we do not foresee. O’ Allah (swt), conceal us with sufficiency and wellbeing. O’ Allah (swt), grant us wellbeing and the continuity of wellbeing and grant us the thankfulness for this wellbeing.'"

"There is no issue in taking (a piece) from the silk covering of the Ka’ba and using it as a cover for a Quran or making it into a prayer mat to pray upon."

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Do not ask my followers for charity in their gatherings, because you may make them seem stingy.’”

One who solves the problem of a believer, Allah will keep the difficulties of hereafter away from him and take him out of grave with peace of heart. One who feeds a hungry Muslim will get the fruits of Paradise to eat. One who offers water to a thirsty will get the drink of Makhtum.”

“I used to eat one meal in twenty four hours. I would ask permission to see abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) at such time that I would expect that their table cloth is collected and they have fished their meal. When I would arrive he would ask to return the table cloth. I would find food in it but it would not harm me while if I would eat with others again I could not do so and it would become very difficult for me to sleep because of gases. I complained about it before the Imam (a.s.) and said that if I would eat from your table it does not harm me. He said, “O abu Sayyar, it is because you eat from the table of the virtuous people. Angels shake hands with them on their furnishings.” The narrator has said that I then asked, “Do they (angels) appear to you?” He has said, “The Imam (a.s.) wiped his hand over one of his children and said, ‘They are more kind to our children than we ourselves are.”

I heard al-Sadiq (a.s) saying: Whoever relieves a believer of a worldly anxiety, Allah will dispel from him a distress of the hereafter and he will come forth from his grave whilst he is delighted.”

“The Messenger of Allah has said in a Hadith, ‘It must be noted that in hatred there is shaving. I do not mean thereby shaving and tearing out of hairs, but it is shaving (destruction) of religion.’”

“When Joseph’s brothers threw him in the well, Jibril (Gabriel) came to him and asked, ‘O young man, what are you doing here?’ He replied, ‘My brothers have thrown me in the well.’ Jibril (Gabriel) asked, ‘Would you like to get out of the well?’ He said, ‘That is up to Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, if He wills. He will take me out.’ Jibril (Gabriel) said, ‘Allah, the Most High, says you should plead before Him for help with this supplication so He takes you out of the well.’ He then asked, ‘What is that supplication?’ Jibril (Gabriel) told him to say, ‘O Lord, I plead before You, acknowledging that all praise belongs to You, no one deserves to be worshipped except You, Who confers favors, the Inventor of the heavens and earth. Possessor of glory and magnanimity, grant al-Salat (favors) upon Muhammad and his family, find a way out of the condition in which I am.’ The Imam said, ‘What happened to Joseph thereafter is what Allah has mentioned in His book, the Holy Quran.’” (See Chapter 12 of the Holy Quran)

"Whoever gives charity in the morning, Allah removes from him the distress of that day."

"I doubted my testimony." Imam (as) said: "He must pay the blood money." I said: What if he said: "I testified against him intentionally"? Imam (as) said: "He is to be executed."

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of my girl who was pregnant and I made a vow and commitment for Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, that if she gives birth to a boy, I will help him to perform al-Hajj or I will perform al-Hajj on his behalf. He (the Imam) said, ‘A man made a vow and commitment for Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, about his son that if he matures he will perform al-Hajj for him or help him to perform al-Hajj. The father died and the boy became mature thereafter and came to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, who commanded him to perform al-Hajj by means of what his father has left behind.’”

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ’One who has dyed (his hairs) does not go to bed with his wife/ I then asked, ‘Why one who has dyed does not go to bed with his wife?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Because he is confined/”

“I once complained before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the trouble I face from food. He (the Imam) said, ‘You may have eaten without mentioning the name of Allah.’ I said, ‘I had mentioned the name of Allah but it gives me trouble.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘When you discontinue mentioning the name of Allah by speaking, then return to eat, do you mention the name of Allah?’ I replied, ‘No, I do not do so.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘This is why it gives you trouble. Were you to return to eating if you mention the name of Allah, it would not harm you.’”

“Once we were in the presence of abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), in Mina (a place in Makkah). We were eating grapes when a man came asking for help. Imam told someone to give him a bunch. The man said, ‘I do not need this. I need dirhams.’ The Imam said, ‘May Allah grant you a great deal.’ The man went away and then came back saying, ‘Give me that bunch of grapes.’ The Imam said, ‘May Allah give you a great deal and did not give him anything.’ Soon, another man came and asked for help. The Imam offered him just three pieces of grape that he accepted and said, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the worlds who has granted me sustenance.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), said, ‘Wait,’ filled up both of his hands with grapes and gave it to him. The man took the grapes from the Imam and said, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘Wait,’ and he (the Imam) asked his servant, saying, ‘How many dirhams do you have with you?’ We estimated there were about twenty dirhams with the servant. He gave them to the man, who took them and said, ‘All praise belongs to Allah. This is from You alone and You have no partners.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), then said, ‘Wait,’ and he (the Imam) took off his shirt and said, ‘Wear this.’ The man took the shirt and said, ‘O abu ‘Abd Allah, all praise belongs to Allah who has granted me clothes and covering.’ Or he said, ‘O abu ‘Abd Allah, may Allah grant you good rewards. Nothing except this is left with abu ‘Abd Allah.’ He then left. We thought had he not prayed for ‘Abd Allah, he would keep giving him something as long as he kept praising Allah.’”

"If a servant performs ten Hajj pilgrimages, the Hajj of Islam is still obligatory upon them when they become capable of fulfilling it."

"He has invalidated his Umrah, and he must offer a camel (badnah) as a penalty. He should remain in Mecca until the month in which he performed the Umrah has passed. Then he must go to the Miqat specified by the Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace be upon him and his family) for the people of his region, enter into Ihram from there, and perform a new Umrah."

"If he was unaware, then there is nothing upon him. But if he departed before the break of dawn, then he must offer the sacrifice of a sheep."

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘All of ‘Arafat is al-Mawqaf (the station) and the best of it is the foot of the hill.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the best charity is cooling off a thirsty liver.”

“’Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘When Allah becomes angry with a people on whom He has not sent any suffering, He makes their prices to become costly, shortens their life span, takes away profit from their trade, their fruits do not become clean, their canals do not over-flow and He withholds their rain and makes their wicked ones to dominate them.’”
