“I once complained before abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about rutubah (acidity) and he (the Imam) commanded me to eat thyme complete and uncrushed.”

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), when seeing a dead person would say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah who has not placed me among the masses whose lives have already ended.’”

“Abu al-Hassan, al-Thalith (a.s.), would say, ‘I have not used anything for food more inducing illnesses than dried up meat, that is, al-Qadid.’”

“A man once complained before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), against an anal problem and abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), rubbed his back. A red worm fell off of him and he was cured.’”

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘If one dies before the age of forty, his life is cut short, and if one dies before fourteen days from the day of his falling ill, such death is a sudden death.’”

“Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), wrote from Khurasan to al-Madinah, ‘Do not make abu Ja‘far al- Thaniy to drink sawiq with sugar because it is bad for man.’ “Al-Sayyariy has explained it from ‘Ubayd Allah that it is undesirable for men because it weakens manhood desire due to its cold nature with sugar.”

“Once, a man asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about endives, sweet basil and watercress. He (the Imam) said, ‘Endives and sweet basil are for us and watercress is for banu ’Umayyah.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If a man has one thousand dirham and he does not have anything else with him but he buys sugar with it, he is not considered a spendthrift.””

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Fever is a harbinger of death and a prison of Allah on earth. Its heat is from hell and that is the share of a believing person (instead) of hellfire.’”

“After prayer place your hand on the area for your prostration and say, ‘In the name of Allah, Muhammad the Messenger of Allah, cure me O Healer; there is no cure except Your cure that leaves no ailment without being removed, the cure for all pain and ailments.’”

I said to Abi `Abdillah (as) regarding Maghrib: We prayed, but we fear that the Sun was behind the mountain, and that the mountain had hid it from us. So, he said: You do not need to climb the mountain.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that when Yusuf (Joseph) was in jail, he complained before his Lord, most Majestic, most Glorious, about eating bread alone and asked for sauce and there were a great deal of pieces of dry bread with him. He commanded him to place the bread in a pot, pour water on it with salt and it became Mury. He (a.s.) used it as sauce.”’

“I heard abu al-Hassan (a.s.), say to his son al-Qasim, ‘ Son, stand up and recite Surah thirty-seven (of the Holy Quran), near the head of your brother, to the end.’ Al-Qasim began to recite, when he reached the passage, ‘Is their creation more powerful or those whom We have created’ (37:11) the young man passed away. When his body was prepared for burial they came out and Ya’qub ibn Ja’far turned to him (the Imam) saying, ‘ We would rather recite Surah 36 and now you command us to recite Surah 37.’ The Imam said, “ Son, if one facing distress in dying condition recites it, Allah expedites relief for him.’”

H 371 - Sa'ad Ibn Abdullah said: Muhammad Ibn Nusayr an-Numairi claimed that he was a messenger and a prophet, and that Ali Ibn Muhammad (a.s.) had sent him. He believed in reincarnation and exaggerated about the position of Abul Hasan (a.s.) and deified him. He believed in the permissibility of marrying blood relations of prohibited degree (Mahrams) and same sex marriage. He believed that sodomy was an act of humility, meekness and modesty on the part of the receiver and that it was an occasion of pleasure and delight for the active partner, and that Allah does not disallow any of such things. Muhammad Ibn Musa Ibn Hasan Ibn Furat supported the authenticity of these reports.

“I wrote to Abu Muhammad (as): "I gave 150 dinars to six people so they could perform Hajj. Some of them returned without departing for Hajj, and some came to me, stating that they had spent part of the money and still had some remaining, which they intended to return to me. I have considered demanding what I gave to those who did not return to me." Imam (as) wrote back: "Do not pursue those who did not return to you, and do not take anything from those who came back with what they had. The reward is already with Allah (swt), the Exalted."

Wait.’ We waited. He asked, ‘Is there with any of you some apple, pears, peaches or a measure of perfumes or fragrance like ‘Ud or bakhur?’ We replied, ‘We do not have any such things with us.’ The Imam then said, ‘You should know that a patient feels relieved when something is presented to him.’”

‘The Rasool Allah (saww) said: ‘There is no one from the children of Adam (as) except that there are two veins within him. A vein in his head which incites the leprosy, and a vein in his body which incites the vitiligo. So if the vein in the head gets incited, Allah (azwj) Mighty and Majestic Makes the flu to overcome it until the illness flows out from it. And if the vein which is in the body gets incited, Allah (azwj) Makes it to be overcome by the abscesses until the illness flows out from it. So if one of you sees the flu and abscesses, so he should Praise Allah (azwj) Mighty and Majestic for the health’. And he (asws) said; ‘Flu has origin in the head’.

“We would measure the sun in al-Madinah by the yards. Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), said, ‘Allow me to show you a way clearer than this. When the sun declines toward the west at noontime, it is the time for al-Dhuhr Salah (prayer), except for the optional Salah (prayer) before it, which is up to you to make it longer or shorter.’” Sa‘id has narrated from Musa al-Hassan from al-Hassan ibn al-Husayn al-Lu’lu’i from Safwan ibn Yahya from al-Harith ibn al-Mughirah al-Nadriy and ‘Umar ibn Hanzalah: In a similar Hadith it is said, ‘It is up to you to make the optional one light thereafter, or make it longer, thereafter is the time (for al-Dhuhr).”’

a man came to the Prophet, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family, and he said: I am to perish! I am to perish! So he said: And what will cause you to perish? He said: I (sexually) approached my woman during the Month of Ramadhan whilst I was fasting. The Prophet then said to him: Liberate a neck (in captivity). He said: I cannot find. He said: Then fast for two consecutive months. He said: I cannot handle. He said: Give charity to sixty needy ones. He said: I cannot find (affordability). He said: Then the Prophet, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family, was given ‘irq or mukattal in which there were fifteen saa’ [1] of dates. The Prophet, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family, then said: Take it and give it as charity. He said: By He who sent you with the truth as a Prophet, between its two laba’s, there is no household more in need of it than us. So he said: Take it and eat it, you and your family, for indeed, it is an expiation to you.

“I once was grazing my camels on the road of al-Khawarnaq (name of a place) and I saw a group of people coming. I then asked a man among them, ‘Who are these people?’ He replied, ‘They are Ja‘far ibn Muhammad (a.s.), and ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Hassan who are summoned by al-Mansur.’ Afterward I asked about them and it was said that they are in al-Hirah.’ The next morning I went to offer them greeting of peace. When I was there, I saw baskets before them with fresh dates given to them as gift from al-Kufah. The baskets were opened before them. Ja‘far ibn Muhammad, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, extended his hand and ate, then said to me, ‘Eat.’ He (the Imam) then said to ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Hassan, ‘O abu Muhammad, what do you say about these fine fresh dates?’ Ja‘far ibn Muhammad (a.s.), then turned to me and said, ‘O people of al-Kufah, you have been given preference over other people in matters of food by three things: Your fish, al-Bunaniy, your grapes, this al- Raziqiy and your fresh dates, this al-Mushan.’”
