Hadith.990 - In the narration of Ibn Abi Umayr, from Muhammad ibn Abi Hamza said: "The Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) said: 'If a man is one who forgets or becomes distracted in every third part of his prayer, then he is among those for whom distractions are frequent.'"

“Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that when you bow down for sajdah say, ‘Allah is great. then say, ‘ 0 Lord, I have bowed down to prostrate before You, I believe in You, submitted myself to You, have appealed to You to be my attorney and You are my Lord. My face has prostrated before the One who has created it, who has cut out for it a hearing means and a seeing means (ears and eyes). All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. Allah is most Blessed and the best Creator. Then say, ‘My Lord, the most High, is free of all defects. three times. While sitting straight between the two prostrations, say, ‘O Lord, forgive me, grant me mercy, grant me protection, and defend me against my enemies. I am in great need of the good that You have sent to me. Blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds.”

“A man entered the Masjid when the Messenger of Allah was present. He began to perform Salah (prayer) without properly doing Ruku‘ and Sajdah. He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘He acted like a crow picking up grain from the ground. If he dies with his Salah (prayer) of such condition he dies in a religion other than my religion.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Acts of Salah (prayer) fall in three categories; They are Tahur (cleansing), Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees), and Sujud (prostration).”’

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘There are ten Rak‘at in Salah (prayer). There are two for al- Dhuhr, two for al-‘Asr, two Rak‘at of Morning, two Rak‘at of al-Maghrib and two Rak‘at of al-‘Isha’ al-Akhirah. In these many of Salah (prayer) conjectures (mistakes) are not acceptable. If one faces conjectures in such Salah (prayer), he performs it again. They are Salah (prayer) which Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, made obligatory on believers in al-Quran. He (Allah) delegated Muhammad (a.s.), and he (the Holy prophet) increased seven Rak‘at. They are of Sunnah and have no recitations. They have Tasbih (Allah is free of all defects), Tahlil, (no one deserves worship except Allah) Takbir (Allah is great beyond description), and prayer. Conjectures in these Rak‘at are (dealt with according to certain rules). The Messenger of Allah increased two Rak‘at for those at home in al- Dhuhr, al-‘Asr, al-‘Isha’, al-Akhirah and one Rak‘at to al-Maghrib for those at home as well as for those on a journey.’”

“I once was sitting in the presence of abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), and Humran ibn ’A‘yan was also present. Humran asked him (the Imam), ‘What do you say about the words of Zurarah with which I do not agree?’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), asked, ‘What are they?’ Humran said, ‘Zurarah says that the time for Salah (prayer) was delegated to the Messenger of Allah. He was the one who determined them.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), asked, ‘What do you (Humran) say about it?’ I (Humran) said, ‘ Jibril came to him (the Holy prophet) on the first day with the first time and on the last day with the last time. Jibril then said, ‘In between there are times for Salah (prayer).’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), then said, ‘O Humran, Zurarah says that Jibril came to the Messenger of Allah only to give him an indication. Zurarah is right. Allah left it to Muhammad, O Allah grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, who made the determination. Jibril provided him with an indication about it.’”

“I once said to abu Ja‘far (a.s.), ‘I pray to Allah to keep you well, of the timing for Salah (prayer), what portion is better? Is it the beginning, the middle or the end of time?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is the beginning of it; the Messenger of Allah has said, “Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, loves of good things the most that which is done earlier.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘When can I perform al-Dhuhr Salah (prayer)?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Perform the eight Rak‘at (the optional Salah (prayer) when the sun declines (toward the west at noontime), then perform al-Dhuhr. Thereafter perform your optional Salah (prayer) for a longer or short time, then perform al-‘Asr Salah (prayer).”’

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Dawn is when you find a white line like the whiteness of Sur 5 (a certain section of Euphrates river in Iraq) 5 ”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘Did the Messenger of Allah perform Salah (prayer) facing Bayt al-Maqdis?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘Yes, he did so.’ I then asked, ‘Would he turn his back toward al-Ka‘bah?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘When in Makkah he did not do so; but when he migrated to al-Madinah, he did so until he turned to al-Ka‘bah.’”

“I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘When the time for obligatory Salah (prayer) comes, should I perform optional Salah (prayer) or begin the obligatory one?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is better to begin with obligatory. Al-Dhuhr is delayed to one yard from Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime) by one yard for Salah (prayer) of repentant people.’”

“I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘When the time for obligatory Salah (prayer) comes, can I perform optional Salah (prayer) or begin with obligatory Salah (prayer)?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘It is better to begin with the obligatory Salah (prayer).”’

“This is about the words of Allah, most Blessed is whose name, ‘Salah (prayer) was written as obligatory upon people.’ (4:103) Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘It means that it was obligatory, not that it is obligatory for a limited time so that if it is performed after the limited time, it does not fulfill the obligation. Had it been so Sulayman son of Dawud would have been destroyed when he performed his Salah (prayer) in a time, which was other than the time of that Salah (prayer). However, he performed when he remembered.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘If you are certain or have doubts in its time that you did not perform, you must perform it again. If you face a doubt after its time has ended, there has an obstacle come into existence, so a repeat is not required from you because of doubt, unless you are certain. If you become certain you must perform in whatever condition you are.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who leads people for al-‘Asr, then he remembers during Salah (prayer) that he has not performed the one before. He (the Imam) said, ‘He considers it (Salah (prayer) he is performing) as the one before which is missed and thereafter perform al-‘Asr again and the people proceed with their Salah (prayer).”’

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that when you are in your Salah (prayer), you must be humble and attentive in it; Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, has said, ‘Those who are humble during their Salah (prayer) (are of the true believers)’ (23:3).”

“I asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘What should a man who performs Salah (prayer) with an Imam do if they come across a verse that speaks of paradise or fire?’ The Imam said, ‘In such case (during prayer) he may ask Allah for protection against fire or for admission in paradise.’”

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about al-Qiblah (al-Ka‘bah) for one who is confused. He (the Imam) said, ‘He performs as he wishes.’ It is also narrated that he performs Salah (prayer) facing four directions.”

“There are three benefits of Salaat – whenever a person stands for Salaat, good deeds descend on him from all the corners of the heaven, angels surround that person from the place under his feet till the heaven and an angel calls out, ‘O worshipper! If you had known to Whom you are supplicating you would have never missed it.”

“A person who drinks wine will meet Allah along with an idol-worshipper. Allah will not accept the Salaat for forty days of a person who drinks wine once.”

“Whoever Allah accepts even a single prayer from, He will not punish them, and whoever Allah accepts even one good deed from, He will not punish them.”
