عمر بن عبد العزيز

“I once went to see him, abu al-Hassan, Musa (a.s.), and complain before him against my wife because of her bad moral behaviors. He (the Imam) initiating to speak to me said, ‘One time my father arranged for me the marriage to a woman who had very bad moral behaviors and I complained before him against her. He said, ‘What stops you from divorcing her? Allah has already given you such authority.’ I (the narrator) then said to myself, ‘You (Imam) by Allah have provided relief and a way out for me.’”

Goodness is not in plentifulness as it is mentioned in the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, in His book: ‘They give preference to them over themselves, even concerning the things that they themselves urgently need. . . .’ then He has said, ‘. . . whoever controls his greed will have everlasting happiness.’ (59:9) To whoever Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, grants such recognition He loves him. Whomever Allah, the Most Blessed, the Most High, loves, He grants him reward in full measures on the Day of Judgment and without keeping any counts.’ The Imam said, ‘O Jamil, narrate this Hadith to your brothers (in belief); it is an exhortation to good deeds.’”

Allah then sent an angel to her to offer solace and speak to her. She complained about it to Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (a.s.) who asked her to inform him whenever she would find the angel speak to her. She then informed him when the angel came to speak. Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (a.s.) then would write down all that he would hear of the conversations of the angel so much so that his notes took the shape of a whole book.” The Imam (a.s.) then said, “There was nothing in it of the knowledge of the lawful and unlawful matters but it had the knowledge of things that had happened and things to happen in future.”

“I was in the presence of abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), when a woman came to him saying, ‘I left my son dead; I had thrown a comforter on his face.’ The Imam said to her, ‘Perhaps he is not dead. “This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who meets a woman, then asks her to give herself in marriage in the manner of al-Mut‘ah (advantageous marriage) to him for a month; but does not identify the month. Times pass and he meets her after several years. He (the Imam) said, ‘Had he specified the month he deserved it, if the month was not specified he could not claim anything from her.’”

He continues facing them and says to the sins to fall off of them and they began to fall, O abu Hamza, like leaves that fall from trees. They then depart and there no sins will be left on them.’”

We have the key to the treassures of the earth. If I would say to one of my foot to say to the earth, ‘Let out whatever all the gold that is there in you, it will do so.” The narrator has said that he then said to one of his feet and made aline withit on earth, the earth rapped open then said to his hand that took out a brick of gold that was of the size of a hand.” He then said, “Watch carefully.” We then looked again and saw many such pieces of gold one over the other shining. A certain one of us said, May Allah take my soul in service for your cause, “You have been granted whatever there is but your Shi‘a are needy.” The narrator has said that the Imam (a.s.) then said, “Allah will soon grant us and our Shi‘a the bounties of both this and the next life. (For example saying, ‘O Lord, throught Muhammad and so and so grant me this and that.’)

“The Imam said to me, ‘Should I instinct you with a supplication so you can pray? We are a family that whenever something causes us pain or fear a ruler for something we cannot cope with, we pray to Allah with this supplication.’ I said, ‘Yes, may Allah keep my soul and the souls of my parents in service for your cause, O descendent of the Messenger of Allah.’ The Imam told me to say, ‘O the One who existed before everything, O the Giver of being to everything, O the Eternal Being after everything, grant al-Salat (favors) upon Muhammad and his family, and confer upon me such and such of my wishes and needs.’”

“Once we were having food with abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), and a bowl of rice was brought but we just left it untouched. He (the Imam) (a.s.), said, ‘You did not eat anything thereof. You must take notice that the one among you with intense love for us is the one who eats our food well.’ ‘Abd al-Rahman said, ‘I then ate even the pieces that had fallen on the table-spread.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Now this is good’ and he (the Imam) kept speaking that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, was presented with a gift of a bowl of rice from the side of al- Ansar (people of al-Madinah). He (the Messenger of Allah) called Salman, al-Miqdad and abu Dharr, may Allah be happy with them, but they did not eat thereof. He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘You did not eat anything thereof. The one among you of intense love for us is the one who eats our food well.’”

“If a beleiver provides clothes for his brother (in belief) to use in winter or summer, it becomes a right with Allah to dress him with the dresses of paradise, to ease off the agony of death for him, make his grave greatly roomy. On coming out of his grave he meets the angels who give him the good news as Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, has said, ‘The angels will come to them with this glad news: ‘This is your day which was promised to you.’” (21:103)
