Everything in this book that is narrated from Zurara ibn A'yun has been transmitted by me from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Abdullah ibn Ja'far Al-Himyari, from Muhammad ibn 'Isa ibn 'Ubayd, Al-Hasan ibn Zhurayf, and Ali ibn Isma'il ibn 'Isa, all from Hammad ibn 'Isa, from Hariz ibn Abdullah, from Zurara ibn A'yun.

“Two issues would poke in my chest which made me to write to abu Muhammad (a.s.). I wrote about Al-Qa’im (the one who will rise with Divine Authority). “When he rise by what means he will judge among the people and where will be his court house?” I also wanted to ask him about alternating fever but I had missed to mention it in writing. The answer came. “You had asked about Al-Qa’im. When he will rise he judge among people through his own knowledge just the way David would judge. He would not call any witness to testify. You also wanted to ask about alternating fever but you forgot to do so. Write this on a sheet (of material) “We said to the fire, ‘Be cool and peaceful (with Abraham)’” (21:69).The narrator has said that we did just as he had said and the suffering person was relieved.”

Whenever you would like will be all right for me.” One day when they met each other he said, “O Jabir, tell me about the tablet that you saw in the hand of my great-grandmother, Fatima (a.s.), daughter of the Messenger of Allah. Tell me of what she said toyou about the tablet and the writing on it?” Jabir then said, “I ask Allah to testify (to the truth of what I experienced that day). Once I went to see your great grandmother Fatime (a.s.) in the life time of the Messenger of Allah. I congratulated for the birth of al-Husayn (a.s.). I saw in her hand a green tablet that I think was made of Emerald (precious gems). I saw on it a white writing that was shining like the color of sun. I then said to her, “May Allah take my soul and the souls of my parents in service for your cause, O daughter of the Messenger of Allah, what is this tablet?” She said, “This is a tablet that Allah has given as a gift to His Messenger. In it there is the name of my father, the name of my husband, the names of my two sons and the names of the executors of the wills of my (special) descendants. My father gave it to me as a gift and glad news.” Jabir then said, “Your great grandmother (a.s.) then gave the tablet to me. I read it and made a copy of it.” My father then said, “O Jabir can you show that copy (that made from the tablet) to me?” He said, “Yes, I can show it to you.” My father went with him to his house and he brought to light a tablet of parchment. He then said, “O Jabir, look carefully at your writing to see how read it for you.” Jabir then kept looking at his handwriting while my father read and his reading was exactly letter by letter the same as what Jabir had in his copy. Jabir theen said, “I ask Allah to testify to the truth of my words that this is what I saw was written on the tablet.” In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the merciful This a document from Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Wise, for Muhammad, His Prophet (s.a), His light, His embassador, His barrier and His guide (for people). Jibril, the trusted spirit has brought from the Lord of the worlds. “O Muhammad acknowledge the greatness of My names and pay thanks for My bounties. Do not hide My favors. I am the Allah and there is no lord besides Me. I break down the transgressors and grant wealth to the oppressed. I am the One Who has established the religion. I am Allah. There is no lord besides I. Whoever would expect to receive any distinction from someone other than Me or have fear of the justice of someone other Me I will cause him to suffer a torment the like of which I would cause no one else of the creatures of the world to suffer. I must be worshipped and in Me you must trust. I have not sent any prophet without, up on the completion of his days, appointing the executor of his will. I have given preference to you over the prophets and I have given preference to the executor of your will over the executors of the wills of the other prophets. I have granted you honor through your two brave grandsons, al-Hassan and al-Husayn. I have made al-Hassan to be the treasure of my knowledge after the completion of the time of his father. I have made al-Husayn to be the keeper of My revelation. I have granted him nobility through martyrdom and made his end triumphant. He will be the best of the martyrs and of the highest degree in the rank of the martyrs. I have kept My perfect word with him and My extremely clear authority and proof available for him. Through his descendant I will give good rewards or cause people to suffer torments. The first of them will Ali ibn al-Husayn, master of the worshippers, and the beauty of My friends of the past then his son who will be very similar to his grand father, the praised one, Muhammad al-Baqir, the one who will be very deeply founded in My knowledge and the source of wisdom from Me. Those who will have doubts about Ja‘far will soon be destroyed. Whoever would reject him would be like one who would reject Me. The true words have already come from Me that I will dignify the position of Ja‘far and will grant him joy and happiness for his followers, supporters and friends. After him Musa will live at the time of a blind, confusing and dark mischief. (He will live among the people) because the system of obedience to Me does not break down and my authority (proof of My existence) does not remain obscure. The thirst (for knowledge and guidance) of my friends will be quenched with sufficient measure. Whoever would reject any of them he has rejected my favors. Whoever would change my signs and verses of my book he has excused with lies. Woe is to those who would fabricate lies and reject (the truth) after the completion of the time of Musa, My servant, My beloved, My chosen one about Ali (al-Rida ). (Ali al-Rida) who is My wali (the one who possesses Divine Authority) My supporter, the one on whom I will place the task of prophet-hood and examine how he would deal with it. An arrogant devil will murder him. He will be buried in the city build by the virtuous servant (of Allah) next to the worst of My creature. The words of truth have already been established that I will grant him joy and happiness with the birth of his son, Muhammad, his successor and the heir of his knowledge. He is the the mine of My knowledge, the right place for My secrets and My authority over My creature. Whoever would believe in him I will make paradise his dwelling and will grant him the ability to intercede for seventy people from his family of whom everyone would have become subject to Hellfire. I will make the end for his son, Ali, to arrive at salvation. Ali, is My wali (the one who possesses Divine Authority), My supporter, the testimony in My creatures and My trustee in My revelation. From him I will make to come out a preacher to My way and a treasure of My Knowledge, al-Hassan. I will complete it with his son (M.H.M.D.) a blessing for the worlds. In him will be found the perfection of Musa (Moses) the beauty of Jesus and the patience of Ayyub. My friends in his time will become weak. Their heads will be sent as gifts like the heads of the Turks and Daylam. They will be murdered and burned. They will live in fear, frightened and fearful. The earth will be stained with their blood and wailing and lamentations will become wide spread in their women. These will possess My authority and through them I will remove the blind and dark mischief. Through them I will remove uncertainties, sufferings and shackles. These are the ones upon whom the blessings and forgiveness of their Lord descend and they are the ones who provide guidance. ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Salim has said that abu Basir said, “Even if you would hear no other Hadith expect this it will be enough for you. Protect it against everyone except the deserving people.”

I take God as a witness that I went to see your mother (the Blessed Lady) Fatima during the lifetime of God’s Prophet (s) to congratulate her upon the birth of Al-Hussein (s). Then I saw a green tablet in her hand which I thought to be emeralds. In it there were white writings which were as brilliant as sunshine. I told her, ‘O daughter of God’s Prophet (s)! May my mother and father be your ransom! What is this tablet?’ She (s) replied, ‘This is a tablet which God the Exalted the Sublime has bestowed upon His Messenger (s). In it there are the names of my father, my husband, my two sons, and the names of the Trustees from my progeny. My father (s) gave it to me to make me happy.’ Jabir added, ‘Then your mother (the Blessed Lady) Fatima gave it to me. I read it and wrote down a copy of it.’”Then Imam As-Sadiq (s) added, “My father (s) asked, ‘O Jabir! Can you show it to me?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ Then my father accompanied him to Jabir’s house where Jabir brought a sheet made of skin for my father and said, ‘I take God as a witness that this is what I saw written on that tablet, ‘In the Name of God the Beneficent, the Merciful. This is a writing from God the Honored the Wise to Muhammad - His Light, His Messenger and His Veil, and His Reason which has been descended upon him by the Trustworthy Spirit from the Lord of the Two Worlds. O Muhammad! Exalt My Names. Be grateful for My Blessings. Do not deny. Indeed I am God. There are no gods other than Me. I am the Defeater of the Tyrants, the Humiliator of the Oppressors! The Owner of the Religion. Indeed I am God. There are no gods other than Me. I will punish whoever places hopes in others but Me or fears things other thanMy Chastisement in such a way that no one in the Two Worlds has been punished. Thus worship Me alone, and rely only on Me. Whenever I appoint a Prophet and his time ends I appoint a Trustee for him. I have made you superior over the other Prophets, and have made your Trustee (The first Divine Leader) superior over the other Prophet’s Trustees. I have honored you with two lion cubs after him - your two grandsons Al-Hassan and Al-Hussein. I have established Al-Hassan (The second Divine Leader) as the Treasure-Mine of My Knowledge after the expiration of the term of his father. I have established Al-Hussein (The second Divine Leader) as the storehouse of My Revelations. I have honored him with the Martyrdom, and have perfected Prosperity for him. He is the noblest of the martyrs. He holds the highest rank of the martyrs near Me. And I have entrusted him with My Perfect Word, and I have left the Complete Proof near him. I give rewards and chastisements by his kinship - the first of whom is Ali (The fourth Divine Leader)- the Master of the Worshippers and the adornment of the previous Trustees. His son (Muhammad) - the praised one - is like his grandfather. He is Muhammad Al-Baqir - the analyzer of My Knowledge and the Treasure House of My Wisdom. Those who doubt Ja’far will be destroyed. Whoever rejects him has indeed rejected Me. I say the right thing. I highly honor Ja’far (The sixth Divine Leader). I will make him happy regarding his followers, companions and friends. I have appointed Musa (The seventh Divine Leader) after him. After him there will be a short period of dark sedition, although there will not be a breach of Divine Leadership. My Proof will not remain hidden and the Trustees will not suffer. Beware that whoever denies any of them has indeed denied Me. Whoever changes any of the verses of My Book has indeed ascribed lies to Me. Woe be to those who ascribe lies and those who deny! Whoever denies the eighth (Divine Leader Al-Ridha) after the duration of the Leadership of Musa - My Servant, Friend and Appointed One - is over, has indeed denied all My Trustees. Ali is My Trustee and Helper. He is the one on whose shoulders I will place the burden of Prophethood and grant him power. A haughty wicked fellow (al-Ma’mun) will murder him and bury him in a town that is established by a good servant next to My worst creature. I say the right thing. I will make him happy by his successor after him Muhammad (The ninth Divine Leader) - his son. He is the inheritor of My Knowledge and the Treasure-house of My Wisdom. He is the site of My Secrets and My Proof for My creatures. Ihave established Heaven as his place and have accepted his intercession on behalf of seventy members of his family who have all become sure to burn in the Fire. And I will end the affairs of his son Ali (The tenth Divine Leader) - My Trustee and Helper, a Witness over My creatures, and My Entrusted with My Revelations - with prosperity. I will bring about Al-Hassan (The eleventh Divine Leader) from him - a caller to My Path and the Treasure-house of My Knowledge. Then I will complete Divine Leadership with his son (The twelfth Divine Leader)- Mercy for the people of the two Worlds. He will possess the Perfection of Moses, the Illumination of Jesus, and the Patience of Jacob. My friends will be belittled during his time. Their heads will be given to others as gifts like the heads of the Turks and the Daylams (Who were opposed to Islam) were. They will be killed and burnt. They will be in fear. The Earth will turn red from their shed blood. Their women will cry and mourn. They are truly My friends. I will fend off all oppressive seditions by them. I will fend off any earthquakes by them. I will eliminate any hardships and burdens by them. They are the ones on whom is the Blessings and Mercy from their Lord. They are the guided ones.’”Abdurrahman ibn Salim said that Abu Basir said, “If you had not even heard any traditions in all your life, just this one is enough for you. Therefore, guard it from all but those for whom it is meant.”

Everything in this book that is narrated from Hisham ibn Salim has been transmitted by me from my father and from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan ibn Ahmad ibn Al-Walid - may Allah (swt) be pleased with them both - from Sa'd ibn Abdullah and Abdullah ibn Ja'far Al-Himyari together, from Ya'qub ibn Yazid, Al-Hasan ibn Zhurayf, and Ayyub ibn Nuh, from Al-Nadr ibn Suwayd, from Hisham ibn Salim. I have also narrated it from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from Muhammad ibn Abi 'Umayr and Ali ibn Al-Hakam together, from Hisham ibn Salim Al-Jawaliqi.

Everything in this book that is narrated from Hariz ibn Abdullah has been transmitted by me from my father and from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) be pleased with them both - from Sa'd ibn Abdullah, Al-Himyari, Muhammad ibn Yahya Al-Attar, and Ahmad ibn Idris, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa, from Al-Husayn ibn Said, Ali ibn Hadid, and Abdur Rahman ibn Abi Najran, from Hammad ibn Isa Al-Juhani, from Hariz ibn Abdullah Al-Sijistani. I have also narrated it from my father, Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan, and Muhammad ibn Musa ibn Al-Mutawakkil - may Allah (swt) be pleased with them all - from Abdullah ibn Jafar Al-Himyari, from Ali ibn Ismail, Muhammad ibn Isa, Yaqub ibn Yazid, and Al-Hasan ibn Zhurayf, from Hammad ibn Isa, from Hariz ibn Abdullah Al-Sijistani. I heard Abu Abdillah Ja’far ibn Muhammad, peace be upon him, say: "Whenever I came across any judgement given by ‘Ali, peace be upon him, I always found it based on the principle of (Prophet’s) tradition." Then he said: ‘Ali used to say: "If two disputants brought a case to me and I gave my judgement, and then if they came with the same case to me after years, I would give the same judgement, because judgement never expires nor does it disappear."

Abu Ja’far (asws) said to me: ‘O Abu Al-Jaroud! What are they saying to you all with regards to Al-Hassan (asws) and Al-Husayn (asws)?’ I said, ‘They are denying us that the two of them (asws) are the sons (asws) of the Rasool Allah (saww)’. He (asws) said: ‘So by which thing do you argue against them?’ I said, ‘We argue against them by the Statement of Allah (azwj) regarding Isa Bin Maryam (as): “[6:84] and of his descendants, Dawood and Sulaiman and Ayub and Yusuf and Musa and Haroun; and thus do We reward those who do good (to others) [6:85] And Zakariya and Yahya and Isa”. So He (azwj) Made Isa Bin Maryam (as) to be from the descendants of Noah (as)’. He (asws) said: ‘So what is it that they say to you?’ I said, ‘They say, ‘The sons of a daughter can be from the sons, but they still are not from the linage’. He (asws) said: ‘So which argument do you argue against them with?’ I said, ‘We argue against them by the Statement of Allah (azwj) to His (azwj) Messenger (saww): “[3:61] say: Come let us call our sons and your sons and our women and your women and ourselves and your selves”. He (asws) said: ‘So what do they say?’ I said, ‘They say that in the speech of the Arabs a man may say ‘our sons’ for the sons of another man’. (The narrator) said, ‘Abu Ja’far (asws) said: ‘O Abu Al-Jaroud! I (asws) will give it (proof) from the Book of Allah (azwj) that the two of them (asws) are from the progeny of the Rasool Allah (saww). None shall reject it except for the infidel’. I said, ‘May I be sacrificed for you (asws), and where is that?’ He (asws) said: ‘Where Allah (azwj) Says: “[4:23] Forbidden to you are your mothers and your daughters and your sisters - the Verse until it ends with the Words of the Blessed and High and the wives of your sons who are of your own loins”. So ask them, O Abu Al-Jaroud, was it Permissible for the Rasool Allah (saww) to marry the wives of the two of them (asws)? If they say, ‘Yes’, they lie, are mischievous, and if they say, ‘No’, so the two of them (asws) are from his (saww) seed’.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Jesus, son of Mary has said, “One who lies, often his grace goes away.’”

My father and I went to Abu Abdullah as-Sadiq (as). He said: “What will you do if you become in a time that you do not find an imam of guidance nor any banner and then no one will be saved from that confusion except one, who will pray Allah with the prayer of drowner?” My father said: “By Allah, this is a great calamity. May I die for you! What will we do then?” He said: “If that occurs-and you will not attain it-then keep to that you have had until the matter becomes clear.”

I said to Abu Abdullah as-Sadiq (as): “We have tradition saying that the imam will be missed in some period of time. What will we do then?” He said: “Keep to the previous one that you have kept to until the matter becomes clear.”

My father, Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s) said to Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari: ‘I have some work with you. So, when would it be possible for you to give me some time so that I may ask you something?’ Jabir replied, ‘Whenever you wish.’ Thus, when my father (a.s) met him in privacy, he (a.s) asked, “O Jabir! Tell me about the Tablet, which you saw with my mother, Fatima, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (s) and what did she tell you as to what was written in it?” Jabir replied, ‘I hold Allah as witness that I went to visit your mother, Fatima (a.s) during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (s) to congratulate her for Husain’s birth. I saw in her hand a green Tablet, which I thought to be of emerald and its writing was as bright as sunlight. I asked her, ‘May my parents be sacrificed for you, O daughter of Allah’s Messenger (s)! What is this Tablet?’ She (s) replied, “This is the Tablet, which Allah, Mighty and Glorified be He, has gifted to the Messenger of Allah (s). In it is the name of my father, the name of Ali, the name of my two sons and the names of the successors from my progeny. In turn, my father gave it to me so that I may rejoice through it.” Jabir said, ‘Thus, your mother Fatima (a.s) gave it to me. I read it and copied it.’ My father (a.s) asked, “O Jabir! Can you show it (the copied manuscript) to me?” He replied in the affirmative. My father (a.s) accompanied Jabir to his house, where he took out a book from a parchment and giving it to my father said, ‘I hold Allah as witness that this is what I saw written in the Tablet: [Text of the Tablet of Fatima (Lauh Fatima)] In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful This is a Book from Allah, the Mighty, the Wise to Muhammad, His light, His ambassador, His veil and His proof. The trustworthy spirit (Jibraeel) has descended with it from the Lord of the worlds. O Muhammad! Magnify my names, be grateful for My bounties and do not deny My endowments. Verily I am Allah; there is no god, but Me, the Destroyer of the oppressors, the Degrader of the tyrants and the Establisher of the Day of Judgment. Verily I am Allah, there is no god, but Me. Whoever expects grace from other than Me or fears other than My justice and My punishment, I will punish him in such a way that I will not punish anybody in this manner in the worlds. Hence, worship only Me and rely only on Me. Indeed, I did not raise a messenger, completed his days and terminated his duration, but that I appointed for him a successor. Certainly, I made you superior over all other Prophets and made your successor superior over all other successors. After him, I honored you with your two grandsons: Hasan and Husain. I made Hasan the mine of My knowledge after the end of the days of his father and I made Husain the treasure-chest of My revelation, honored him with martyrdom and sealed it for him with eternal bliss. So, he is the best of the martyrs and the highest of them in grade before Me. I have placed My perfect word with him and the complete proof near him. Through his progeny, I shall reward and I shall punish. The first of them is the chief of the worshippers and the adornment of My past friends, then his son (Muhammad), who resembles his grandfather al-Mahmud , the splitter of My knowledge and the mine of My wisdom. Soon, those who doubt concerning his son, Ja’far will be destroyed. He who rejects him has rejected Me. I speak the truth, I will indeed honor the position of Ja’far and make him happy vis-à-vis his Shias, his helpers and his friends. After him, I have selected Musa and there will be a blinding, dark corruption so that the spark of My obedience is not terminated, My proof is not hidden and My friends are not afflicted with misfortune. Beware! Whoever denies even one of them, he has denied My bounty. Whoever changes one verse from My Book, then indeed he has attributed a lie unto Me. Then woe unto the liars, the deniers with the termination of the duration of My servant, My beloved and My chosen one, Musa. Verily, the one who denies the eighth is as if he has denied all My friends (Imams). Ali is My friend, My helper and the one, upon whom I have placed Prophethood’s burden of proof and conferred upon him mastership. An arrogant devil will murder him. He will be buried in a city, which the righteous servant has built, next to the worst of My creatures. I speak the truth; I will soothe his eyes with Muhammad, his son and his successor after him. He is the heir of My knowledge, the mine of My wisdom, the place of My joy and My proof upon My creatures. None shall believe in him, but that Paradise will be his abode and I will allow him to intercede for seventy of his family members, even if all of them are eligible for Hell. I will complete his bliss with his son Ali, My friend, My helper, My witness amongst My creatures and My trustee upon My revelation. From him, I will bring forth Hasan, the caller to My path and the treasurer of My knowledge. Thereafter, I will complete this (chain of Imamate) with his son, M-H-M-D, mercy for the worlds. He will possess the perfection of Musa, the brightness of Isa and the patience of Ayyub. Soon, My friends will be humiliated in his time and their heads will be gifted as trophies like the heads of Turks and Daylamites. They will be killed, they will be burnt, they will live in a state of fear, terror and trepidation. The earth will be colored with their blood and wailing and sobbing will be commonplace among their womenfolk. They are My true friends! Through them, I will repel all blinding and dark mischief, remove the earthquakes and do away with the burdens and the chains. They are those upon them is the blessing of their Lord and mercy. And they are the guided ones. Abdur Rahman bin Saalim said: Abu Basir says, ‘If you do not hear in your time anything, but this tradition, it will suffice for you. Hence, conceal it, except from those who are worthy of it.’
