Hadith 493

2. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan who said it was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan al-Saffar from Muhammad b. Ahmad from Muhammad b. Khalid al-Barqi from the one who mentioned it from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said
“A single scholar is better than one thousand worshippers and one thousand people who repent. If people benefit from the knowledge of a scholar he is better than seventy thousand worshippers.”
حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْبَرْقِیِّ عَمَّنْ ذَکَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ
عَالِمٌ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ أَلْفِ عَابِدٍ وَ أَلْفِ زَاهِدٍ وَ الْعَالِمُ یُنْتَفَعُ بِعِلْمِهِ خَیْرٌ وَ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ عِبَادَهِ سَبْعِینَ أَلْفَ عَابِدٍ.
