In Al-Mahasin it is narrated that Imam Baqir (a.s) told Zeyad: “Woe to you. Is religion anything but love? Have you not seen the words of God: “If ye do love God, follow me. God will love you and forgive you your sins for God is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful” [The Holy Quran: Ali-i-Imran 3:31] Have you not heard what God the Almighty told Muhammad: “But God has endeared the Faith to you, and has made it beautiful in your hearts, and He has made hateful to you unbelief, wickedness, and rebellion: such indeed are those who walk in righteousness.” [The Holy Quran: Hujurat 49:7] And God the Almighty said
“Show their affection to such as came to them for refuge.” [The Holy Quran: Hashr 59:9]; Therefore religion is the same as love, and love is the same as religion.”
من كتاب المحاسن: عن أبي جعفر (عليه السلام) في حديث له قال لزياد: ويحك هل الدين إلا الحب؟ ألا ترى قول الله عز وجل: ﴿إن كنتم تحبون الله فاتبعوني يحببكم الله ويغفر لكم ذنوبكم﴾ أولا ترى قول الله عز وجل لمحمد: ﴿حبب إليكم الايمان وزينه في قلوبكم﴾ وقال: ﴿يحبون من هاجر إليهم﴾ فالدين هو الحب والحب هو الدين.
