Zayd ibn Argham narrated that Imam Sajjad (a.s) said
“No one is one of our true followers unless he is either a sincere lover of truth or a martyr.” Zayd asked him: “How is this possible when they die in their beds.” Imam Sajjad (a.s) replied: “Have you not read God's book: “And those who believe in God and His apostles they are the sincere (lovers of truth), and the Witnesses (who testify), in the eyes of their Lord.” [The Holy Quran: Hadid 57:19]Then Zayd said: “You are right. May I be your devoted servant! I have not seen this verse.” Then Imam Sajjad (a.s) continued: “My father Hussein (a.s) said: “If martyrdom was limited to just getting killed by a sword, God would not have used the phrase “the witnesses (who testify).”
