The following five things are considered to be a bad omen if they appear along the path of a traveler: crows making sounds from his right side; a wolf sitting on its tail and howling in his face, while first raising and then lowering its voice for three times; a deer coming from the right side and going to the north; a screaming owl; the private parts of a grey-haired woman; a female donkey whose tail has been chopped off. Anyone who runs into one of these and gets worried should say, ‘O my Lord! I seek refuge in You from the evils which I find within me. So please protect me from them.’”
