Hadith 811

My father (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim b. Hashim narrated to us from his father from al-Hasan b. Mahbub from `Abdullah b. Sinan from Muhammad b. al-Munkadir. He said
`Awn b. Abdullah b. Masud became ill, so I went to visit him, so he said: Shall I not narrate a hadith from `Abdullah b. Mas`ud to you? I said: Of course. He said: `Abdullah said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (s) [one day] when he smiled. So, I said: Why do you smile, O Messenger of Allah? He said: I am astonished at the believer and his fear of illness. If he knew of the good deeds he reaped from illness, he would want to continue being ill until he meets his Lord.
14 - حدثنا أبي (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن أبيه، عن الحسن بن محبوب، عن عبد الله بن سنان، عن محمد بن المنكدر، قال
مرض عون بن عبد الله بن مسعود فأتيته أعوده، فقال: أفلا أحدثك بحديث عن عبد الله بن مسعود؟ قلت: بلى. قال: قال عبد الله: بينا نحن عند رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) إذ تبسم، فقلت: ما لك يا رسول الله تبسمت؟ قال: عجبت من المؤمن وجزعه من السقم، ولو يعلم ما له في السقم من الثواب لاحب أن لا يزال سقيما حتى يلقى ربه عز وجل (2).
