Hadith 81

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi (rh) narrated to us. He said: My father (ra) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa from `Ali b. al-Hakam from Dawud b. al-Nu`man from Sayf al-Tammar from Abi Basir. He said
Al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) said: Surely, the servant has an expanse of time between him and forty years of age. Once he reaches forty years of age, Allah reveals to His two angels: “I have allowed My servant to live a life, so coarsen, stiffen, restrain for him; and record the paucity and the abundance of his deeds, and his minor and major sins.

قال الصادق أبو عبد الله جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام): إن العبد لفي فسحة من أمره ما بينه وبين أربعين سنة، فإذا بلغ أربعين سنة أوحى الله عزوجل إلى ملكيه: إني قد عمرت عبدي عمرا، فغلظا وشددا وتحفظا، واكتبا عليه قليل عمله وكثيره، وصغيره وكبيره (1).
