Shu`ba informed us. He said: Al-Hakam narrated to us. He said: I heard Ibn Abi Layla say: I met Ka`b b. `Ajra, so he said: Shall I not gift something to you? Surely, the Messenger of Allah (sw) came to us, so we said: O Messenger of Allah! You have taught us how to send peace (salaam) to you, but how do we send blessings to you? He said: Say: “O Allah! Bless Muhammad, just as you blessed Ibrahim. Surely, You are Majestic and Glorious. Send benedictions upon the Family of Muhammad, just as You sent benedictions upon the Family of Ibrahim. Surely, You are Majestic and Glorious.
(Allahumma salli `ala Muhammad kama sallayta `ala Ibrahim, innaka hamidun majid. Wa barik `ala aali Muhammad kama barakta `ala aali Ibrahim, innaka hamidun majid)”
