Hadith 460

Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar (ra) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from al-Haytham b. Abi Masruq al-Nahdi from al-Hasan b. Mahbub from Sama`a b. Mehran from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said
When a worshiper’s sins have increased, and he does not find anything to atone them by, Allah afflicts him with grief in this world to atone him of them. Then, his body will ail him so that it may atone him of them. Then, his death will be intensified for him so that it may atone him of them. Then, he will be punished in the grave so that he may meet Allah on the Day that he meets Him without anything of his sins testifying against him.
4 - حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن يحيى العطار (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا سعد ابن عبد الله، عن الهيثم بن أبي مسروق النهدي، عن الحسن بن محبوب، عن سماعة بن مهران، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليه السلام)
أنه قال: إن العبد إذا كثرت ذنوبه ولم يجد ما يكفرها به، ابتلاه الله عز وجل بالحزن في الدنيا ليكفرها به، فإن فعل ذلك به وإلا أسقم بدنه ليكفرها به، فإن فعل ذلك به وإلا شدد عليه عند موته ليكفرها به، فإن فعل ذلك به وإلا عذبه في قبره ليلقى الله عز وجل يوم يلقاه وليس شئ يشهد عليه بشئ من ذنوبه (3).
