Imam Ali (AS) said, How strange it is that the succession [to the Prophet] is [decided] by companionship [only] and not by companionship and kinship.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : واعَجَبا أنْ تَكُونَ الخِلافَةُ بِالصَّحابَةِ وَ لا تَكُونَ بِالصَّحابَةِ والقَرابَةِ
