hadith 9218
Imam Ali (AS) said, Magnanimity is [displaying] equity when in authority, showing forgiveness despite having the power [to take revenge] and being financially supportive [to those in need] in ones society (or in times of hardship).
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : اَلْمُرُوءَةُ اَلْعَدْلُ فِي الإمْرَةِ وَ العَفْوُ مَعَ القُدْرَةِ وَ المُواساةُ فِي العِشْرَةِ (العُسْرَةِ)

hadith 9248
Imam Ali (AS) said, He who is not careful of his obligation towards his friends and does not treat his enemies justly cannot be attributed with magnanimity.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : لَمْ يَتَّصِفْ بِالمُرُوَّةِ مَنْ لَمْ يَرْعَ ذِمَّةَ أوْلِيائِهِ وَ يُنْصِفْ أعْدائَهُ
