10-59 Aḥmad b. al-Ḥasan al-Qaṭṭān narrated to us, he said: Aḥmad b. Yaḥyā b. Zakariyyā al-Qaṭṭān narrated to us; from Bakr b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥabīb, he said: Tamīm b. Buhlūl narrated to us; from his father, he said
Ismāʿīl b. al-Faḍl narrated to us, he said, "I asked Abū ʿAbd Allāh (ʿas) about the saying of God - Mighty and Exalted, 'And celebrate the praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before the sunset' (Qurʾān 50:39). He said, 'It is an obligation on every Muslim to say ten times before the rising of the sun and ten times after its setting, "There is no god but God, Alone and without partner. To Him belongs the Dominion and unto Him is due praise; He gives life and causes death while He is the Living that does not die. Goodness lies in His Hands, and He is potent over all things." (lā ilāha illā-llāh waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu-l-mulku wa lahu-l-ḥamd, yuḥyī wa yumītu wa-huwa ḥayyun lā yamūt, bi-yadihi-l-khayr wa-huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr).'" Ismāʿīl continues, "I repeated, 'There is no god but God, Alone and without partner. To Him belongs the Dominion and unto Him is due praise; He gives life and causes death, and causes death and gives life.' He (ʿas) responded, 'Listen, there is no doubt God gives life and causes death, and He causes death and gives life; however, pray it as I prayed it.'"
