Hadith 119

6. He said: Abul Hasan ‘Ali ibn Bilal al-Mahlabi reported to me from Abu Ahmad al-Abbas ibn al-Fadhl ibn Ja’far al-Azadi al-Makki, in Egypt, who reported from ‘Ali ibn Saeed Ibn Basheer al-Razi, who reported from ‘Ali ibn Abdul Wahid, from Muhammad ibn Aban, who reported from Muhammad ibn Tamam ibn Sabiq, who reported from Amir ibn Sayyar, from Abu al-Sabah, from Abu Tamam, from Ka’b al-Habr, who said
Abdullah ibn Salaam came to the Prophet before he had embraced Islam, and said: "O Messenger of Allah! What appellation does ‘Ali have among you?" The Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny, said: "‘Ali is al-Siddiq al-Akbar among us." Abdullah said: "I testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His Prophet. Surely, we have read in Torah: Muhammad is the Prophet of Mercy and ‘Ali is the upholder of Proof."
6 - قال: حدثنا أبو الحسن علي بن بلال المهلبي قال: حدثنا أبو أحمد العباس بن الفضل بن جعفر الأزدي المكي بمصر قال: حدثنا علي بن سعيد ابن بشير الرازي قال: حدثنا علي بن عبد الواحد، عن محمد بن أبان قال: حدثنا محمد بن تمام بن سابق قال: حدثنا عامر بن سيار، عن أبي الصباح، عن أبي تمام، عن كعب الخير قال
جاء عبد الله بن سلام إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قبل أن يسلم فقال: يا رسول الله [ص] ما اسم علي فيكم؟ فقال له النبي [صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم]: علي عندنا الصديق الأكبر، فقال عبد الله: أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، وأن محمدا رسول الله، [و] إنا لنجد في التوراة: " محمد نبي الرحمة، وعلي مقيم الحجة ".
