“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘Women do not inherit from the real property or land anything.’”

"He does not inherit from him. However, if the killer has a son, the son inherits from the murdered grandfather."

I heard Abu Abdullah (as) say: "A free person and a slave do not inherit from one another."

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, provided for the grandmother with one-sixth.’”

The free and slaves do not inherit each other.’”

I asked Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) about a man who dies and leaves behind a son who is enslaved. Imam (as) said: "His son should be purchased from his wealth, then freed, and he will inherit whatever remains."

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, provided for the grandmother, mother of the father, one-sixth when his son was alive and provided for the grandmother, mother of the mother, one-sixth when her daughter was alive.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who dies and leaves behind a son who is owned by someone. He (the Imam) said, ‘His son is bought, set free and the rest of the legacy is given to him.’”

"Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as) inherited the knowledge of the Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace be upon him and his family), and Sayyida Fatimah {s.a} (peace be upon her) inherited his possessions."

“About the case of a woman who leaves behind her husband and both parents, abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘The share of the husband is one-half, the share of mother is one-third and the remaining belongs to the father.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘A slave does not inherit and a free person does not inherit from a slave.’” (It is because a slave does not own anything.)

“Abu Ja‘far, commanded abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, to make me read the booklet on ordained shares and I saw most of them were up to four shares.’”

"Ali (as) inherited the knowledge of Rasulullah (sw) and Fatima (as) inherited his belongings (what he left behind)."

I asked Abu Abdullah (as) about a newborn who has neither the characteristics of males nor females. Imam (as) said: "In this case, the Imam will cast lots. He will write on one lot 'Servant of Allah (swt)' (Abdullah) and on another lot 'Maidservant of Allah (swt)' (Amatullah). Then the Imam or the one drawing the lots will say: 'O' Allah (swt), You are Allah (swt), there is no God but You (swt). Knower of the unseen and the seen, You (swt) judge between Your (swt) servants in what they differ. Clarify for us the matter of this newborn so that we may allot the inheritance You (swt) have prescribed for them in Your (swt) Book'. Then the two lots will be placed among other unidentified lots, and whichever one is drawn will determine how the child inherits."

“This is about the case of a man who divorces his wife in a manner that gives him the right to go back to her, then he dies. One of the two Imam, (abu Ja‘far or abu ‘ Abd Allah) (a.s.), has said, ‘She must count her waiting period in the form of the longer period of time, which is four months and ten days.”’

"The Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace be upon him and his family) granted the paternal grandmother (the father's mother) one-sixth of the inheritance while her son was alive, and he granted the maternal grandmother (the mother's mother) one-sixth while her daughter was alive."

“One of the two Imam, (abu Ja‘far or abu ‘Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ‘A man who kills his son or father cannot inherit from him, but the legacy is for the heirs of the killer.’”

“This is about what is narrated from the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. He (the Messenger of Allah) has said that people of two religions do not inherit from each other. Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘We inherit from them but they cannot inherit from us because al-Islam has not increased anything in his favor except sternness.’”

"If a man divorces his wife while he is ill, she inherits from him as long as he remains in that illness, even if her waiting period (iddah) has ended - unless he recovers from his illness." I asked: "What if his illness lasts for a long time?" Imam (as) replied: "She inherits from him for up to one year."

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If a man divorces his wife during his illness she inherits his legacy as long as it is in his illness even if her waiting period ends unless he gets well from that illness.’ I then asked, ‘What happens if the illness prolongs?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is up to one year.’”
