عمر بن يزيد البصري

“Whenever you pray for forty of your believing brothers before you pray for yourself, God will fulfill your prayers for them and for yourself.”

Hadith.57 - Omar ibn Yazid asked Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) about the recitation of supplications in the restroom and reading the Qur'an. Imam (as) said: "It is not permitted to recite more than the Ayat al-Kursi or to praise Allah (swt) (by saying) 'All praise is due to Allah (swt), the Lord (azj) of the worlds' while in the restroom."

“O the Living, O the Guardian, O the One besides Whom no one deserves to be worshipped, I cry to You for help through Your mercy, suffice me whatever concerns me and do not leave me to myself.” One should say it one hundred times in prostrating position.

“I heard abu al-Hassan (a.s.) saying, ‘Prayer, and pleading before Allah for help, repeals Quddira, what is already measured, and the unmeasured.’ I (the narrator) then asked the Imam, ‘I know the meaning of what is ‘Measured’, but what is the meaning of the ‘Unmeasured’?’ The Imam said, ‘So that it (a measure, of misfortune) will not come into being.’”

I heard Aba `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as) say: Whoever prays for forty of his brethren before he prays for himself, it will be granted for them and for him.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘If one recites Chapter 112 of the Holy Quran when coming out of his house, ten times, he will remain in the protection of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, and in His custody until he returns home.’”

I was told by Umar bin Ali bin Umar bin Yazid, from Hussain bin Qarin, that he ascribed it to Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him, that he said: Indeed, the interpretation of your saying of «Ameen», is: My Lord, do. It has been narrated in another narration that Ameen [1] is a Name from the Names of Allah, Exalted and Glorious is He.

He said: "Whoever says during his Witr prayer (while performing the single-unit prayer of Witr) 'Astaghfirullah Rabbi wa Atubu Ilayh' (I seek forgiveness from Allah (swt), my Lord (azj), and I turn to Him in repentance) seventy times, and continues to do so regularly until a year passes, Allah (swt) will write him among 'those who seek forgiveness in the early hours of the morning,' and Paradise and forgiveness from Allah (swt), the Mighty and Glorious, will become obligatory for him."

“I was following abu al-Hassan, Musa (a.s.), when climbing al-Safa’ and al-Marwah, and he did not say anything more than two words, ‘O Allah, I appeal before You to grant me optimism about You in all conditions and true intention to place my trust with You.’”

I heard abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘In the night there is an hour in which if a Muslim performs Salah (prayer) and appeals before Allah for a wish; his prayer is answered every night. I (the narrator) then asked saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep you well, which hour is it?’ The Imam replied, ‘It is in the first one-sixth of the second half of the night.”’

“Whoever says the Al-Vatr prayers at the end of the night and says ‘I ask God for forgiveness and I repent’ (‘Istaqfurallah va Atubo ellayh) seventy times while standing up and perseveres thereon for one year will be recorded amongst those who ask for forgiveness at dawn by God and his forgiveness by God becomes certain.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has stated this Hadith. ‘If one of you drinks water, and says , ‘In the name of Allah,’ then drinks, then stops and say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah,’ He then drinks and says, ‘In the name of Allah’ then stops, and says, ‘All praise belongs to Allah’ then drinks and says, ‘In the name of Allah’ then stops and says, ‘All praise belongs to Allah,’ that water keeps saying Tasbih (Allah is free of all defects) for him as long as it is in his belly until it goes out.’”

“Whoever says ten times everyday, ‘I testify that no one deserves to be worshipped except Allah alone, Who has no partner. One Lord, the only Self-sufficient, Who has not taken any companion nor any children,’ Allah will write down for him forty-five thousand good deeds, will cancel forty-five thousand of his evil deeds and will raise for him forty-five thousand degrees.’” “In another Hadith it is stated, ‘The above expression will serve him as stronghold against rulers and Satan and no major sin will engulf him.’”

“I once wanted to visit abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.). I dressed up and spread my Taylisan (pallium) which was new and I liked it very much. Somewhere on the road the camel gave me a hard time and it (my dress) was torn in pieces all over. I became depress very much. I then met abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), he looked at my Taylisan and asked, ‘Why do I see your cloth ripped apart?’ I then informed him (the Imam) about what had happened. He (the Imam) said, ‘O ‘Umar, whenever you will wear a new pair of clothes say, “No one deserves worship except Allah. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.’ You will remain safe from misfortunes and if you like something do not mention it very often because mentioning it causes you great damage. If you need something from a person do not revile him behind his back because Allah drops it in his heart.’”

“My partner experienced menses in al-Madinah when it was the time for our transporters to come and leave, when she had not been able to go close to the Masjid, the grave or pulpit of the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. I mentioned it to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), and he said, ‘Ask her to take a shower and go to Maqam (station) of Jibril. Jibril from that place would ask permission from the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, for a meeting. In case meeting was not convenient, he would remain there until he came out, to give him permission.’ I then asked, ‘Where is that place?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘It is under al-Mizab. When you come to the door called door of Fatimah next to the grave and upon raising your head, you see al- Mizab right above your head and the door is behind you. She should sit at that place and women behind her. She should pray to her Lord and women behind her should say ‘Amen’ to her prayers.’ I (the narrator) asked, ‘What should she then say?’ He (the Imam) replied that she should say, ‘O Allah, I appeal before You and You are Allah. Nothing is like You, so You do for me so and so things.’ My partner followed the instruction and she became clean. Thereafter she visited the Masjid.’ He has said that our housemaid had a similar case and asked me if she could also do what my partner had done. I said, ‘Yes, she also can do so. She also followed the instruction and it was successful.’”
