“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘There is no confusion (acceptable) in al-Maghrib and morning Salah (prayer).”’

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), disliked to perform Salah (prayer) with clothes that had portraits on them.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If you see lice in the Masjid when you are in Salah (prayer) cover it in the sand.”

“I once asked one of the two Imam, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, about mistakes in optional Salah (prayer). He (the Imam) said, ‘There is not anything upon him.’”

Abu Abdillah عليه السلام said to me: beware of two qualities – due to them have been destroyed those who have been destroyed: beware of giving Fatwa to the people based on your own opinion or to take as part of your Diin that which you you do not know (are not certain of).

“I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about a man who mistakenly stands up where he was to sit or sits down where he was to stand up. He (the Imam) said, ‘He performs two Sajdah (prostration) after Salam (the phrase of offering greeting of peace) which are destroyers to destroy Satan.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about performing Salah (prayer) in al-Biya‘ and churches. He (the Imam) said, ‘Sprinkle, then perform Salah (prayer).’ He (the narrator) has said that he then asked him (the Imam) about the houses of Zoroastrians. He (the Imam) said, ‘Sprinkle and perform Salah (prayer).”’

“I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘I enter Masjid and Salah (prayer) begins while I have already performed Salah (prayer). He (the Imam) said, ‘You can perform Salah (prayer) with them; Allah chooses the lovelier one of the two.’”

If it is dry he throws it away and it is not harmful.’”

“Abu Ja‘far, and abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, would say, ‘Only four things discontinue Salah (prayer): defecation, urination, gas and sound.’”

“I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of these houses where people lodge, in which there is urine of animals and dung, where Jews and Christians enter. How is one to perform Salah (prayer)? He (the Imam) said, ‘Perform Salah (prayer) on your clothes.’”

a man asked Aba Abdillah عليه السلام about an issue and he answered him in it – so the man said: suppose if it were so and so – what would the answer be in it then? So he said to him: keep silent, whatever I have answered regarding it – then it is on the authority of the messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وآله, we have nothing to do with ‘suppose’ whatsoever.

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who divorces his wife when he is absent from her. He arranges witnesses about his divorce; then he comes home and stays with her for months without informing her of divorce and the woman claims to have become pregnant but the man says. ‘I had divorced you in the presence of witnesses. He (the Imam) said, ‘He is responsible for the child and his words are not accepted.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who does not know if he has performed two Rak‘at or four. He (the Imam) said, ‘He says Tashahhud (testimonies of belief) and the phrase of offering greeting of peace, then stands up to perform two Rak‘at and four Sujud (prostrations) in which he reads al-Fatihah al-Kitab, thereafter says Tashahhud (testimonies of belief) and the phrase of offering greeting of peace. If he has, in fact, performed four Rak‘at, the two Rak‘at are optional; but if they were two Rak‘at, then these two Rak‘at complete the four, and if he has spoken something other than what is part of Salah (prayer) he performs two Sajdah (prostrations) because of mistake.’”

“Once I was in the Masjid when Ali ibn al-Husayn, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, came in but I could not recognize him properly; so I asked about him and I was told about his name so others and I stood up for him, we surrounded him (the Imam) and offered him (the Imam) greeting of peace. A man then said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep you well, what is your view about a man who mentions a woman exactly and on the day of his marriage says three times that she is divorced then he decides to marry her: if he can do so.’ He (the Imam) said, ’Divorce is only after marriage.”’

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of an Imam who leads four or five people in Salah (prayer). Of these people two of them say Tasbih (Allah is free of all defects) indicating that it is three Rak‘at and three of them say Tasbih (Allah is free of all defects) to indicate that it is four Rak‘at. These ones say to stand up, these ones say to sit down, and the Imam is inclined toward one side or has equal guess about both sides. What is he to do? He (the Imam) said, ‘Imam does not have mistakes if those behind him preserve (the order of Salah) with their certainty and those behind the Imam do not have mistakes if the Imam does not have mistakes. There is no mistake (applicable) in mistakes, (about the number of Rak‘at) correctable in al-Maghrib, in the morning Salah (prayer), in the first two Rak‘at of every Salah (prayer) and in optional Salah (prayer). If those behind the Imam differ with the Imam then it is upon him and upon them to observe caution by performing again for ascertainment.’”
