“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Every man among you must provide advice to his brother (in belief) just like the advice for his own self.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘One’s trusting a treacherous person and wasting assets is a worthless act.’”

“I asked Ali ibn al-Hussein to inform me of all the rules of the religion. The Imam (MGB) replied, ‘Speaking fairly, ruling justly and respecting one’s pledge.’”

On a certain day, I came to Abul Hasan Ali Ibn Muhammad (a.s) and said: “O my master, many a time I go away and then come to your vicinity, yet I am still not able to get access to you every time I come. So whose word should we accept and whose order should we obey?” The Imam (a.s) said: “This is Abu Amr. He is trustworthy and honest. He is the trustworthy man of the past and my man of trust in my lifetime and after my death. Whatever he says to you, he says it from us; whatever he delivers to you, he does so from us.” When Imam Hadi (a.s) passed away and the Imamate was transferred to his son, Imam Hasan Askari (a.s), I came to him one day and mentioned what his respected father had said. Imam Hasan Askari (a.s) also said: “This is Abu Amr. He is trustworthy and honest. He is the trustworthy man of the past and my man of trust in my lifetime and after my death. Whatever he says to you, he says it from us; whatever he delivers to you, he does so from us.” Abu Muhammad Harun said: Abu Ali said: Abul Abbas Himyari said: We would often discuss this narration and extol the eminence of Abu Amr.

The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Surely, the closest of you to me anon and the most rightful to my intercession are those of you with the most truthful tongue, who return trusts the most, and who are the closest to the people.

1. [1/-] al-Kafi: Muhammad b. Abdallah and Muhammad b. Yahya from Abdallah b. Ja’far al-Himyari who said: We gathered – myself and the Shaykh Abu Amr [al-Amri] رحمه الله at Ahmad bin Ishaq’s place. Ahmad b. Ishaq gestured at me to ask him [al-Amri] about the Successor [al-Mahdi] so I said to him: O Aba Amr – I want to ask you something … Abu Ali [Ahmad b. Ishaq] also informed me that he had asked Aba Muhammad [al-Hasan b. Ali al-Askari] عليه السلام about the same matter and he [the Imam] said to him: al-Amri and his son are two trustees. What they give to you on my behalf then their giving is truly on mine behalf, and what they say to you on my behalf then their saying is truly on mine behalf. Therefore listen to them and obey them, for they are both trustworthy and reliable …

2. [2/119] Rijal al-Kashshi: Abu Amr (al-Kashshi) said: one of the Thiqat relayed to me that Aba Muhammad صلوات الله عليه wrote to Ibrahim b. Abda [to show it to his doubters]: ‘and my letter which was issued to Ibrahim b. Abda [previously] appointing him as my agent to collect my dues from my followers over there – then yes – it is indeed by my own handwriting, I have appointed him – that is Ibrahim b. Abda – for them in their town – this a truth and it is not a falsehood, so they should fear Allah the way He ought to be feared and they should take out my dues and hand it over to him, for I have permitted him what he uses from it, may Allah enable him and favor him with protection from short-coming by His mercy.

We gathered – me and the Shaykh Abu 'Amr (al-'Amri) – may Allah have mercy on him – at Ahmad bin Ishaq’s, then Ahmad b. Ishaq signaled me to ask him (al-'Amri) about the Remnant (al-Mahdi), so I said to him: … and Abu Ali Ahmad b. Ishaq has relayed to me on the authority of Abi al-Hasan (al-Naqi) (AS), saying: I asked him and said: "Whom do I emulate or from whom do I take? And whose words do I accept?" So he said to him: "Al-'Amri is my Thiqa (trustee), so what he gives you on my behalf then his giving is truly on my behalf, and what he says to you on my behalf then his saying is truly on my behalf, so listen to him and obey him, for he is both Thiqa (trustworthy) and reliable." And Abu Ali also informed me that he had asked Abu Muhammad (al-Askari) (AS) about the same matter, so he said to him: "Al-'Amri and his son are both trustees, so what they give to you on my behalf then their giving is truly on my behalf, and what they say to you on my behalf then their saying is truly on my behalf, so listen to them and obey them, for they are both Thiqa trustworthy and reliable…"

“I once left for Makkah and my financial condition was the worst among people. I mentioned to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.). When I left his meeting at the door I found a bag with seven hundred dinar in it. I immediately returned to the Imam and informed him about it. He (the Imam) said, ‘Sa‘id, be pious before Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious. You must announce your finding in all the places (Mashahid) where people perform the acts of Hajj.’ I had a degree of hope about Imam’s permission for me to use some of that money. I then left and I was sad. I went to Mina and moved far from people, searched around and ended up to the places endowed for the benefit of people. I found a room away from people and then announced, ‘I have found a bag. Whoever has lost it must give proper description and collect it from me.’ As soon as I made the announcement a man stood over my head saying, ‘I am the owner of the bag/ I (the narrator) said to myself I wish you had not said it. I then asked, ‘What is the description of the bag?’ He gave me the exact description and I gave it to him.’ He moved to one side and counted them and found it to be the same amount. He then counted seventy dinars and said, ‘Take this lawful money; it is better than seven hundred unlawful dinars.’ I took them and visited abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), and informed him of the story in details. He (the Imam) said, ‘When you complained before me about your condition I ordered to keep aside thirty dinars for you. O girl, bring for him those dinars.’ I took them and was of the best financial condition in my people.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that it is in the letter of ’Amir al-Mu 5 minin to al-Hassan (a.s.), which says, ‘You must not give control of things beyond her own affairs to a woman; it is easier for her condition, comfortable for her mind and helps her beauty to last longer, because women are like sweet basil and not a wrestling champion and she must not allow her soul to bypass her grace and honor. Help her to cast down her eyes by your covering, withhold her with your veil, and not to incite her to intercede for others before you so that the recommended incline toward her and go before yourself for the rest. Your restraining yourself from women when they see you dominant is better than their seeing you in a condition of breaking apart. 5 ” Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Sa‘id has narrated from Ja’far ibn Muhammad al-Hassaniy from Ali ibn ‘Abdaka from al-Hassan ibn Zarif ibn Nasih from al-Husayn ibn ‘Ulwan from Sa‘d ibn Tarif from al- Asbagh ibn Nubatah from ‘Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.), has narrated a similar Hadith except that he has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.), wrote the letter to his son Muhammad, may Allah be pleased with him.
