Imam Ali (AS) said, If your Lord had a partner, then his prophets would [also] have come to you.

We stand witness that there is no god but Allāh, the One, Who has no partner for Him, and that Muāammad is His slave and His Prophet, Allāh may bless him and his descendants. These two certifications heighten the utterance and raise the act. The scale wherein they would be placed would not be light while the scale from which they are removed would not become heavy.

I stand witness that there is no god but Allāh, He is One and there is no partner with Him. He is the First, such that nothing was before Him. He is the Last, such that there is not limit for Him. Imagination cannot catch any of His qualities. Hearts cannot entertain belief about His nature. Analysis and division cannot be applied to Him. Eyes and hearts cannot encompass Him.

“Whoever says, ‘I testify that no one deserves to be worshipped except Allah alone, Who has no partner, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, Allah will write down for him one million good deeds.’”

When He made anything of the world, the making of it did not cause Him any difficulty, and the creation of anything which He created and formed did not fatigue Him. He did not create it to heighten His authority nor for fear of loss or harm, nor to seek its help against an overwhelming foe, nor to guard against any avenging opponent with its help, nor for the extension of His domain by its help, nor for boasting (over largeness of His possession) against a partner, nor because He felt lonely and desired to seek its company.

I do not say: Verily, He is definite so I remove Him from His place, nor do I bound Him to a place that He may be confined to it. Nor do I set Him a boundary that He may move within something with support or by means of limbs. Nor do I limit Him with words that are thrust from the mouth. The Blessed and Exalted says: “Be and it is,” by His Will, and without any hesitation in desire, the Peerless, the Needless. He is not in need of an associate in His Sovereignty, nor an associate to open the doors of His Knowledge for Him.

“Two events are inevitable: The one who died witnessing that there is no god but Allah (He is One and He has no partner with Him) will enter Paradise, and the one who died associating partners with Allah will enter Hellfire.”

He did not create what He- created to fortify His authority nor for fear of the consequences of time, nor to seek help against the attack of an equal or a boastful partner or a hateful opponent. On the other hand all the creatures are reared by him and are His humbled slaves. He is not conditioned in anything so that it be said that He exists therein, nor is He separated from anything so as to be said that He is away from it. The creation of what He initiated or the administration of what He controls did not fatigue Him. No disability overtook Him against what He created. No misgiving ever occurred to Him in what He ordained and resolved. But His verdict is certain, His knowledge is definite, His governance is overwhelming. He is wished for at time of distress and He is feared even in bounty.

“Say, ‘I seek protection with Allah against Satan, the condemned to be stoned. I seek protection with Allah against the approach of Satan. Allah is Hearing and Omniscient.’ Say, ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah alone. Who has no partner. He gives life and causes death. He has power over all things.’ The narrator has said that a man than asked, ‘Is it obligatory?’ The Imam said, ‘Yes, it is obligatory and limited that you say before sunrise and sunset, ten times and if you miss it then make it up during the day or night. ’”

Praise be to the One! There is no god but He. He is the Eternal, and the Originator without beginning. He is the Eternal, who does not tire. He is the Living, who does not die. He is the Creator of the seen and the unseen. He is the Knower of Everything without being taught. Such is Allah who has no associate.

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying in the evening, ‘Remember (speak of) your Lord deep within yourselves, humbly and privately, instead of shouting out loud, (in prayer) in the mornings and evenings and do not be of the heedless ones,’ (7:205) and ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah alone. Who has no partner. To Him belongs the kingdom and all praise. He gives life, causes death, causes death and gives life and He has power over all things.’ I (the narrator) said, ‘In His hand is all good.’ The Imam said, ‘All good is in His hand, however, say as 1 say to you ten times and say, ‘I seek protection with Allah, all Hearing and Omniscient,’ at sunrise and at sunset, ten times.”

Abu `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as) said: He who says “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, one without partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Servant and His Messenger (la ilaha illallah wahdahu la shareekalah, wa ashhadu anna muhammadan `abduhu wa rasuluh)” in the market, Allah records one million good deeds for him.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Of the prayers are such that if one forgets one should make up for it. One should say after the morning prayer, “No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, alone Who has no partner, to Him belongs the Kingdom and all praise, He gives life, causes death, causes death, gives life, He is living and does not die, in His hand is all good and He has power over all things,” ten times. One should then say, ‘I seek protection with Allah, the Hearing, the Omniscient,’ ten times and if one forgets any of this, he owes to make it up for them.’”

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Whoever soon after performing the morning prayer and before raising his knees says ten times, ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah alone, Who has no partner, the Kingdom is His, all praise belongs to Him, He gives life, causes death, causes death and gives life, He is living and will never die, in His hands is all good and He has power over all things, and also at sunset, no servant (of Allah) will meet Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, with a deed better than this deed except one who performs the same deed.’”

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Whoever (sincerely) says ten times before sunrise and before sunset, ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah alone Who has no partner, the Kingdom is His, all praise belongs to Him, He gives life, causes death, causes death and gives life, He is living and will never die, in His hands is the good and He has power over all things,’ this will be the remedy and expiation for his sins on that day.’”

“Whoever says ten times everyday, ‘I testify that no one deserves to be worshipped except Allah alone, Who has no partner. One Lord, the only Self-sufficient, Who has not taken any companion nor any children,’ Allah will write down for him forty-five thousand good deeds, will cancel forty-five thousand of his evil deeds and will raise for him forty-five thousand degrees.’” “In another Hadith it is stated, ‘The above expression will serve him as stronghold against rulers and Satan and no major sin will engulf him.’”

“Prayer before sunrise and sunset is an established Sunnah (tradition). At sunrise and sunset say, ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, alone, Who has no partner. To Him belongs the Kingdom and all praise. He gives life, causes death, causes death and gives life and He does not die. In His hand is all good, He has power over all things,’ ten times and then say, ‘I seek protection with Allah, the Hearing, the Omniscient, against the whispers of Satan. I seek protection with You, my Lord against their approaching me. Allah is All-Hearing and Omniscient,’ ten times before sunrise and sunset. If you forget, make it up as you make up the formal prayer when you forget.’”

”In a day, whoever says “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, the One and Only, who has no partners; the God [ilah], the One [wahid], the Unique [ahad], on whom all depend, who has not taken a partner nor son,” Allah, the Majestic and Glorious, will record 45 thousand thousand (45 million) good deeds for him, and He will forgive him 45 thousand thousand evil deeds, and He will raise his position in Heaven by 45 thousand thousand places, and He will be like a person who recited the Quran twelve times, and Allah will build a house for him in Heaven.”

On the Throne, it is written: “I am Allah. There is no god but Me. I am Alone without any partners. Muhammad is My Servant and My Messenger, and I have aided him with `Ali.” So, Allah revealed, “It is He who supported you with His help and with the believers.” (8:62) The “help” is `Ali (as), who [also] entered among the believers; so, he (as) is on both sides together.

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.) has said, ‘Whoever says before dawn, “No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah alone, Who has no partner, to Him belongs the kingdom and all praise, He gives life, causes death, causes death and gives life. He is living and does not die, in His hand is all good and He has power over all things,” ten times and says, ‘O Lord, grant al-Salat (favors) upon Muhammad and his family,’ ten times, and says, ‘Allah is free of all defects,’ thirty-five times, ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah,’ thirty- five times, ‘All praise belongs to Allah,’ thirty-five times, he will not be written that morning among the careless ones and if he says this in the evening, he will not be written of the careless ones in that night.’”
