“Once abu al-Hassan (a.s.), came out and I felt the fragrance of incense from him (the Imam).”’

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, There are three kinds of hands: the asking hand, the withholding hand, and the spending hand, of which the best hand is the spending hand.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who is for al-Tamattu‘ (advantageous) and cannot find an offering. He (the Imam) said, ‘Does he not have any dirham to ask his people to allow him to share with them?”’ (Fatwa best explains Hadith 2-5 of this Chapter)

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘With the existence of three factors nothing can harm one. These factors include: prayer in difficulties, asking forgiveness in sins and thankfulness for bounties.’”

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘You must forgive. Forgiving increases one’s respect, therefore, forgive so Allah may respect you.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), once said to me, ‘Do you use the power of these people for cover?’ I replied, ‘No, I do not do so.’ He (the Imam) asked, ‘Why do you not do so?’ I replied, ‘It is because of my running away with my religion.’ He (the Imam) asked, ‘Are you determined in this issue?’ I replied, ‘Yes, I am determined.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Now your religion is safe for you.’”

“Allah, the Most Holy, the Most High, inform Prophet Muhammad about all that was there from the beginning of the world and that will be there to the end of the world. He informed him about is definit in them and made an except about what is otherwise.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When you see a man who takes out from his assets in obedience to Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, then you must be certain that he has earned it by lawful ways, and when he takes it in disobedience to Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, you must rest assured that he has earned it in unlawful ways.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that his (Imam’s) father has said that when Ali ibn al- Husayn (a.s.), would stand up for Salah (prayer), he seemed like the trunk of a tree. Not anything of his body would move except what the wind would move.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), once asked me, ‘Where have you been?’ I then thought that he knows the place where I was. I then said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, I was passing by so and so and he kept me, I went in his house and looked at his slave-girls.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘That is such a gathering to the inhabitants of which Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, does not look. Have you placed your family and assets in the trust of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious?”’

“Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’ (a.s.), once said to me, ‘O abu Muhammad, what do you say about a man who marries a Jewish or a Christian woman, as a second wife, the first being a Muslim woman?’ I replied, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, my words have no meaning in your presence.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You must say it; with it my words will come to light.’ I said, ‘It is not lawful to marry a Christian woman as a second wife, the first being a Muslim woman or non-Muslim woman.’ He (the Imam) asked, ‘Why is it so?’ I replied, ‘It is because of the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, “You must not marry the pagan women until they become believers.’” (2:221) He (the Imam) then asked, ‘What do you say about, “Marry of the chaste woman of the followers of the book (bible) which was before you” (5:5)?’ I replied, ‘Verse 221 of Chapter 2 has cancelled verse 5:5.’ He (the Imam) smiled and remained quiet.’”

“I once visited abu al-Hassan (a.s.). He took out a container with musk in it and said, ‘Apply it and place in your nostril.’ He (the narrator) has said, ‘I took a little and applied to my nostrils.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Apply more.’ I then took more from it and something from it remained on my hand. He (the Imam) said, ‘Apply it to your nostril.’ I applied it.’ He (the Imam) said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘No one rejects honor except a donkey.’ He (the narrator) has said, ‘I then asked, what it means?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is perfumes, pillows’, and he (the Imam) counted certain other things.’”

I heard Abu Al-Hassan (asws) saying: ‘The dream is upon what interpretation you give it’. So I said to him (asws) that, ‘Some of our companions are reporting that the dream of the king was a confused dream’. So Abu Al-Hassan (asws) said: ‘A woman saw a dream during the era of the Rasool Allah (saww) that a pillar of her house had broken. So she came to the Rasool Allah (saww) and related the dream to him (saww). The Prophet (saww) said to her: ‘Your husband will come to you safely’; and her husband had gone away (in a caravan). So he came just as the Prophet (saww) said that he would. Then he went away from her for another time. She saw in the dream as if a pillar of her house had broken. So she came to the Prophet (saww) and related the dream to him (saww). So he (saww) said to her: ‘Your husband will come to you safely’. So he came as he (saww) had said he would. Then her husband went away for a third time. She saw in her dream that a pillar of her house had broken. She met a left-handed man (a fortune teller), so she related her dream to him. The man said to her, ‘The evil. Your husband is dead’. (As the news of her dead husband) reached the Prophet (saww), so he (saww) said: ‘If only he had interpreted it for her in a good way’.

A slave of Abu Al-Hassan (asws) has said, ‘In the presence of Abu Al-Hassan Al-Musa (asws) was a man from Qureysh, who went on to mention the Qureysh and the Arabs. Abu Al-Hassan (asws) said during that; ‘Leave that! These people are three (types) – Arabs, and ‘مَوْلًى’ friends and faithless. So we (asws) are the Arabs, and our (asws) Shites are the friends, and the one who is not upon the like of what we are on, so he is faithless’. So the Qureyshi said, ‘O Abu Al-Hassan (asws)! You (asws) are saying this, so where are the prided ones of Qureysh and the Arabs?’ So Abu Al-Hassan (asws) said: ‘It is how I (asws) have said it to you’.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), once, when food prices were rising, asked me, ‘How much food do we have?’ I (the narrator) replied, ‘There is enough food for several months.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Take it out to sell.’ I (the narrator) I said, ‘There is not enough food in al-Madinah.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You must sell it.’ When I sold he (the Imam) said, ‘You must buy food every day as other people do.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘O Mu‘attib, make half the supplies of food for my family from wheat and the other half barely; Allah knows that I can provide them wheat as it is, but I like that Allah see me planning my finances in a good manner.’”

“I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), ‘Is staying in Makkah more virtuous or in al- Madinah?’ He (the Imam) asked, ‘What do you say about it?’ I (the narrator) replied, ‘My words are not of any significance before your words.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Your words return you to my words.’ I (the narrator) then said, ‘I believe staying in al-Madinah is more virtuous than in Makkah.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘What you said is the same as what abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), said on a day of ‘Id al-Fitr during his visit of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. He offered his al-Salam in the Masjid and said, ‘We today have been given preference over people due to our offering al-Salam to the Messenger of Allah.’”

“I once saw abu al-Hassan (a.s.), had used dye. I said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, I can see you have used dyes.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, readiness is of the matters that increases chastity of women and women neglect chastity because of their husband’s neglect of readiness.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘Will you be happy to see her without readiness?’ I replied, ‘No, it does not make me happy.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘In the same way it will not make her happy to see you without readiness.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘It is of the moral behavior of the prophets to maintain cleanliness, use perfumes, shave the hairs and going to bed with one’s wife very often.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘Sulayman ibn Dawud, ‘Alayhima al-Salam, had one thousand women in one palace of whom three hundred were publicly known and seven hundred of them were secretly married. The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, had the ability equal to forty men of going to bed with his wives, he (the Messenger of Allah) had nine wives and moved among them every night and day.”’
