Imam Ali (AS) said, Remaining silent when speech is inappropriate is more praiseworthy than eloquence.

Muhammad ibn Abi Abdullah Al-Kufi narrated to us, who said: Muhammad ibn Isma'il Al-Barmaki narrated to us, from Ali ibn Al-Abbas, who said: Al-Qasim ibn Al-Rabi' Al-Sahhaf narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Sinan, from Imam Al-Ridha (as).

And whatever is narrated from Abdullah ibn Al-Hakam, I have narrated it from Al-Husayn ibn Ahmad ibn Idris - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from his father, from Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Yahya, from Sahl ibn Ziyad Al-Adami, from Al-Jariri, whose name is Sufyan, from Abu ʿImran Al-Armani, from Abdullah ibn Al-Hakam. And I have also narrated it from my father and from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) be pleased with them - from Ahmad ibn Idris, from Muhammad ibn Hassan, from Abu ʿImran Musa ibn Zanjawayh Al-Armani, from Abdullah ibn Al-Hakam.

“None but Allah can create something out of nothing. None but Allah can transfer one substance into another. None but Allah can transfer existence into non-existence.”

“I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about a man who performs one Rak’at of Salah (prayer), then he remembers in the second Rak’at in Ruku’ (bowing down on one’s knees) position that he has omitted one Sajdah (prostration) of the first Rak’at. He said, ‘Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), would say that if you omit Sajdah (prostration) in the first Rak’at and do not know if it is one or two; perform Salah (prayer) again until it is correct to say that two Sajdah (prostrations) are performed.’”

“A servant cannot accomplish an action unless Allah, the Mighty and High, has granted him the ability of doing so. Verily, the legal capacity [taklif] from Allah has occurred after the ability. Thus, no one has legal capacity except for the capable.”

Do not forget your health, strength, free time, youth and liveliness from seeking, through it, the Hereafter.

1. It is narrated that Imam Ridha (a.s.) said, “One who benefits from a brother for the sake of Allah, Allah will permit him to benefit from a house in Paradise.”

And whatever is narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ʿIsa Al-Ashari - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - I have narrated it from my father and from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) be pleased with them - from Saʿd ibn Abdullah and Abdullah ibn Jafar Al-Himyari together, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ʿIsa Al-Ashari.

“I was present when Mu‘adh ibn Kathir said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘I have become affluent so I want to quit business.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘If you do so your power of reason will decrease’- or similar expression.”

Ali b. al-Husayn (as) has said: 'The one who is attentive with the timings of the prayer, would never indulge into the pleasures of the world.'

“One who meets a believer to please him, Allah will make the former happy on the Day of Judgment. One who meets a believer to make him sad, Allah will make the former sad on the Day of Judgment.”

“The punishment of that person will be the severest who released his semen in a womb, which was prohibited for him.”

“I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about the case of a man whose wife becomes clean of Hayd (menses) and he says, ‘So and so is ‘Taliq’ (let go, divorced) and a people hears his statement but he does not say, “Bear witness”; if divorce takes place or not. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, it is bearing witness. Can she be left in suspense?”’

Abstinence from something is not by abandoning it. Abstinence form something is only to take little from it.

“About cheese abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Everything is lawful for you until two witnesses testify before you that it is dead animal.’”

“Three groups of people are not pure: Those whose right eye is blind; those whose pupils are like the stone on a ring, and those who are born as Sindi (in some versions we read: those who have been born after one year of pregnancy.) ”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a fasting man who applies cupping and oil in his ears. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful except sniffing snuff, which is undesirable.’”

It is not harmful.

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘One who returns from Makkah with an intention to return to al-Hajj again in the future lives longer.’”
