“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Once my father asked for a prayer mat but I was not fast enough, so he took a handful of pebbles, placed them on the furnishing and performed Sajdah (prostration) on them.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘You must not perform Sujud (prostration) on anything except earth or on what grows from earth except cotton and linen.’”

“I saw Abul Hassan Al-Ridha (s) when he was prostrating in prayer. He (s) slowly moved one of three fingers one after the other as if he was counting the number of glorifications recited. Then he raised his head. I also saw him bowing down in prayer. The duration of his bowing down was shorter than that of anyone else I had ever seen before. He also kept his two hands a little way away from his body while bowing down.”

“He (the Imam) (a.s.), has said that woman when performing Sajdah (prostration) should not spread herself and man should spread himself on the ground.’”

1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) says, “One who recites Qul huwallaahu ah’ad, innaa anzalnaahu fee lailatil qadr and ayatal kursi in a recommended prayer Allah would consider his deed best except for that person who has performed it more than him.”

“Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘You must not perform Sajdah (prostration) on gold or on silver.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that on Friday night after optional Salah (prayer), after Maghrib (soon after sunset) Salah (prayer) one should say, ‘O Lord, I appeal to You through Your gracious face and great name. “Allahumma Salli ‘Ala Muhammad wa ‘Ali Muhammad (O Allah grant Muhammad and his family a compensation worthy of their serving Your cause,)” Forgive my great sin’- seven times.”

“He (the Imam) (a.s.), has said, ‘If anything of the four al-‘Aza’’im is read and you hear them, perform Sajdah (prostration), even if you are not with a valid Wudu’, or have experienced sexual relation, even if a woman does not perform Salah (prayer) (due to Hayd (menses)). In the case of the rest of al-Quran, you can perform Sajdah (prostration) or do not perform, it is your choice.’”

1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) says, “One who prostrates for thanking for the bounties apart from Salaat, Allah writes for him ten rewards, erases ten of his sins and increase his position by ten levels in Paradise.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who performs Sajdah (prostration) on the saddle while on horseback, has said, ‘He must clear the place for his Sajdah (prostration).”’

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), disliked performing Sajdah (prostration) on a piece of paper with writing on it.’”

Abu Basir led us in prayer when we were on the road to Makka. He [Abu Basir] said while in prostration – and a camel of theirs had become lost: ‘O Allah return to so-and-so [naming him] his camel’. Muhammad said: I entered in to see Abi Abdillah عليه السلام and informed him [of what had happened], so he [the Imam] said: Did he really do that?! I [Muhammad b. Muslim] said: Yes. He [the Imam] remained silent. I [Muhammad b. Muslim] said: Should I repeat the prayer? He said: No.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If you stand up in the first two Rak‘at without saying Tashahhud (testimonies of belief), then remember before Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees), you must sit down. You must say Tashahhud (testimonies of belief). In case, if you do not remember until Ruku‘, then continue your Salah (prayer) as you are. When you end, perform two Sajdah (prostration) without Ruku‘, then say Tashahhud (testimonies of belief) which you had missed.’”

“Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), has said, ‘You must not perform Sajdah (prostration) on graves and on a mix of lime and construction compound.’”

“I once was in the presence of abu Ja‘far (a.s.), in his home in al-Madinah. He initiating a conversation saying, ‘One who completes his Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees) does not face any dread in the grave.’”

“He (the Imam) (a.s.), has said, ‘If one knows the kind of mistake he has made and completes it then Sajdah (prostration) for mistake is not necessary for him. Sajdah (prostration) for mistake is upon one who does not know if he has increased or decreased something in Salah (prayer).”’

But I cannot see the marks of the Shia on your faces.” “What are the marks of the Shia?” asked they. He (a) spoke: The Shia are pale-faced because of staying up at nights, atrophied-stomached because of fasting, and dry-lipped because of prayers to Allah. The dust of the submissive covers them.

“On the Day when there shall be a severe affliction.” He (AS) replied: “A veil of light will be revealed. At that time, the Believes shall prostrate themselves, while the backbones of hypocrites will be twisted tightly preventing them from prostrating.”

A person went to a mosque where the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) was also present. He performed short prostrations without caring for what is obligatory in a prostration. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said that the person was pecking like a crow. If that person dies, “he will die following any other religion except the religion of Muhammad.”

'O’ Allah (swt), I bear witness before You, Your angels, Your prophets, Your messengers, and all of Your creation that You are Allah (swt), my Lord (azj); Islam is my religion; Muhammad is my Prophet; and Ali, Hasan, Hussain, Ali ibn Hussain, Muhammad ibn Ali, Ja'far ibn Muhammad, Musa ibn Ja'far, Ali ibn Musa, Muhammad ibn Ali, Ali ibn Muhammad, Hasan ibn Ali, and the Hujjah, son of Hasan ibn Ali, are my Imams. With them, I seek closeness, and from their enemies, I dissociate. O’ Allah (swt), I beseech You concerning the blood of the oppressed' (repeating this three times). 'O’ Allah (swt), by Your promise to Yourself concerning Your enemies, destroy them through our hands and the hands of the believers. O’ Allah (swt), by Your promise to Yourself concerning Your allies, grant them victory over Your enemy and their enemy. Send Your blessings upon Muhammad and the Guardians from the family of Muhammad' (repeating this three times). 'O’ Allah (swt), I ask You for ease after hardship' (repeating this three times). Then, place your right cheek on the ground and say, 'O’ my shelter when paths confuse me and the earth, despite its expanse, feels narrow for me. O’ Creator who brought me into existence out of mercy while You were self-sufficient without me, send blessings upon Muhammad and the Guardians from the family of Muhammad' (repeating this three times). Then, place your left cheek on the ground and say, 'O’ One who humiliates every tyrant and grants honor to every humble servant! By Your might, I have reached my limit' (repeating this three times). Then, return to prostration and say 'Shukran Shukran' (Thank you, Thank you) a hundred times. Then, ask for your needs, if Allah (swt) wills." Do not prostrate in gratitude when faced with opposition, and use caution in omitting it.
