“I once said to abu Ja‘far, al-Thaniy (a.s.), ‘I like to reside in Makkah or al-Madinah, but there is a certain amount of debt that I must pay. What do you advise me to do?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You must return to pay off what you owe, and bear in mind that you must go before Allah, most High, when there is no debts due on you. A believing person does not commit treachery.’”

“I once asked al-Rida’ (a.s.), about the case of a man who buys a loan to collect it from the debtor and demands the debtor for payment. He (the Imam) said, The debtor pays what the collector has paid to the creditor and in so doing becomes free of the responsibility of paying all that was due on him.’”

he heard abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) say the following. “I swear by Allah that I know the Holy Quran from the beginning to end as if it is in the palm of my hand. In it there is the news of the heavens and the earth, the news of what has been and the new of what will come into being. Allah, the Most Holy, the Most High, has said, “In it there is the explanation of all things.” (16:89)

“I mentioned the words of Allah , ‘No mortal eyes can see Him, but He can see all eyes. He is All-kind and All-aware.’ (6:103) to Imam abu Ja’far (a.s.). He said, “O abu Hashim, Awham (mentioned above) of hearts are keener and sharper than the perceptions of the eyes. Through the Awham of the heart you can perceive countries like Sind, Hind (India) and other cities which you have never seen with your eyes. How can your eyes see Him when the Awham of your heart cannot perceive Him?”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, said to ’Amir al- Mu’minin, ‘O Ali, begin taking food with salt and end it with salt. It dispels seventy kinds of troubles of which the least serious is leprosy.”’

“Once I asked Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) ‘I know a family who listens to me, should I invite them to this cause (belief of the Shi ’a Muslims)?’ The Imam said, ‘Yes, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, says in His book, ‘Believers, save yourselves and your families from the fire which is fueled with people and stones . . (66:6)

“I heards al-Rida (a.s.) saying, “Ali ibn ‘Abdallah (or ‘Ubaydallah)ibn al-Husayn ibn Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.), his wife and childred are of the people of paradise.” He then said, “Whoever would recognize this matter (Leadership with Divine Authority) in the descendants of Ali and Fatima (a.s.) he would not be like the people.”

I wrote to Imam Hadi (a.s) asking about Ali bin Rashid, Isa bin Ja’far [bin Asim] and Ibn Band. Imam (a.s) wrote back: You have mentioned Ibn Rashid, who lived a righteous life and departed as a martyr. And they condemned Ibn Band and Asimi, but Ibn Band was clubbed to death and Ibn Asim was also lashed three hundred times on the Baghdad Bridge and thrown into the Tigris and he passed away.

Abu Abdullah (asws) said that: ‘Musa Bin Imran (as) complained to his (as) Lord (azwj) the High about the moisture and the humidity. So Allah (azwj) the high Commanded that he (as) should take the myrobalan (fruit) and ‘Al-Balaylaj’ and ‘Al-Amlaj’, knead it in honey and take it’. Then Abu Abdullah (asws) said: ‘It has been named as ‘Al-Tarayfil’ among you’.

Abu Abdullah (asws) has said: ‘Allah (azwj) has not Created a creature smaller than the mosquito, and Al-Jarjas is smaller than the mosquito, and that which we call Al-Wala’a is smaller than Al-Jarjas, and there is nothing which the elephant has except that it is in it, similar to it, and it is better than the elephant by having two wings’.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the pilgrim’s performing al-Hajj and al-‘Umrah is part of the undertaking of Allah. If he dies when on his way, Allah forgives his sins. If he dies in the state of Ihram, Allah raises him saying Talbiyah (here I am O Lord, to obey Your command). If he dies in one of the two sacred places, Allah raises him well protected. If he dies on his way back home, Allah forgives all of his sins.”

“I once asked abu Ibrahim (a.s.), about a man who keeps a certain asset in stock expecting increase and he wants to sell it. Is what is paid for it subject to Zakat? He (the Imam) said, ‘No, it is not subject to Zakat until he sells it and one year passes with the asset in his possession.’”

Everything in this book that is narrated from Hisham ibn Al-Hakam has been transmitted by me from my father and from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) be pleased with them both - from Sa'd ibn Abdullah and Al-Himyari together, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn 'Isa, from Ali ibn Al-Hakam and Muhammad ibn Abi 'Umayr together, from Hisham ibn Al-Hakam. His kunya was Abu Muhammad, and he was a freed servant (mawla) of Banu Shayban. He was a seller of woolen garments and moved from Baghdad to Kufa.

Whoever asserts that Allah is from something, or in something, or on something, then he has disbelieved. I said: Explain this for me. He said: I mean (to assert) that He is contained by something (which encloses him), or that He is held up (resting on something), or He is (derived) from something which preceded Him.

if he reaches his maturity, that is, completes thirteen years and enters the fourteenth – then it becomes obligatory on him what is obligatory on those who have nocturnal emissions whether he himself has emissions or not, and his sins are written down for him, and his good-deeds are also written down for him, and everything becomes permissible for him [in financial terms] except if he is mentally incapacitated or foolhardy.

the prophet صلى الله عليه وآله had prohibited that the meat of the sacrificed animals (in the Id festival) be kept for more than three days because of the prevailing need, as for today then there is no harm in doing so.

"When the sins of a servant of Allah multiply and grow in number, and he has nothing to expiate his sins with, Allah tests him with sorrow and grief, and thus expiate his sins."

Abu Abdillah Ja’far ibn Muhammad al-Sadiq, peace be upon him said: "Among the most firm bonds of faith is that you love for the sake of Allah, and hate for the sake of Allah. And you give away for the sake of Allah, and refuse to give for the sake of Allah."

I asked Aba Ja’far عليه السلام about the words of Allah Mighty and Majestic: “When your Lord took from the Children of Adam from their backs their descendants and made them bear witness against their own selves - am I not your Lord? They said: Indeed” (7:172). He said: The Ma’rifa (Recognition) was confirmed but they forgot the time (when this episode occurred) and they will come to remember it one day. If it were not for that no one would know who his Creator is nor who his Sustainer is.
